Recently, many different directors met with Warner Brothers to see who may be right for the part: "Duncan Jones (“Moon”), Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles"), Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield,” this Friday’s “Let Me In”), Tony Scott and Zack Snyder are on the list."
One other possible director who recently dropped out was Ben Affleck, director of The Town and Gone Baby Gone. Affleck is no longer pursuing the job. That means Darren Aronofsky is top of the line. Aronofsky directed a string of critically acclaimed movies, and one a few people aren't so fond of: Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, and later on this year, Black Swan. Some sources state he has the job, and others say he's in the running, but at the head of the pack. So, if you're wondering, he's first in line for the job, until there's an official announcement from Warner or Aronofsky. There's a big rumor going around as well, and that's 'who will play Lois Lane?'

MovieHole recently reported that someone who worked on Aronofsky's Black Swan stated Darren wants Natalie Portman in the role. "'been talking about this for a while' and that they don't think talks have 'progressed beyond the suggestion of having Nat[alie Portman] be Lois. They wanted her first time around, this time they can get her - with Darren. But who knows where that's at now'"
Sounds rumortastic to me. I think Aronofsky, much like Nolan did with the Batman series, will bring a sense of realism to the Superman film. He's a very serious director, much like Nolan, and his films are pretty dark in tone. He could do a wonderful job with this character and film, but I'm pretty sure that Supes will be in a little darker setting than normal. As for Natalie Portman, it doesn't sound like a bad idea, and it does sound plausible if Aronofsky is directing because they both worked on Black Swan together, but something smells a little fishy, and by fishy, it seems like a complete lie. I like the idea though. And although there's lots of Affleck haters out there, he's a killer director, and even though he's out of the running, I don't think his version of Superman, if it were to happen, would be bad at all, as long as the film were more story driven. Affleck and Aronofsky are two completely different directors. It's like night and day. What do you guys think about the possibility of Aronofsky directing Superman? Do you think Natalie Portman would make a good Lois Lane?
