What MOVIES Should Be Turned Into Comics?

Let's flip the switch.

Forget about what comics should be turned into movies, let’s put the shoe on the other foot. What movies should be turned into comics? Writing about the Snake Plisskin comics earlier this week got my mind on the subject. There are certainly a lot of film series that are just begging for some continuation or spin-off. I think the only criteria are that the series can't be that reliant on its stars (otherwise, you lose too much appeal when they're taken out of the equation) and the comic would need to do something you couldn't get away with on screen.

THE MATRIX: I know you’re going to say that there already were two volumes of MATRIX COMICS. My question is... why didn’t Burlyman keep pumping them out? The MATRIX mythos was so expansive that, even after three movies, three video games and an anime anthology, I think fans only got to gleam the surface of its world. You could probably do a “mega-series” about the previous "loads" of the Matrix, alone.

JAMES BOND: Relax. I know that 007 is a literary creation, but the movies are what people know. I also know that those YOUNG BOND comics are currently rolling out, but I still think that the misanthropic/misogynistic “Jimmy Bond” in LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN: THE BLACK DOSSIER was a fascinating interpretation of the character, precisely because it was more "mature readers." Seeing as how all the Bond movies were loose adaptations of the novels, at best, I think it’d be interesting to see comic adaptations of THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME that stuck closer to the darker source material.

MAD MAX: 25 years later and George Miller is supposedly finally getting MAX MAX 4: FURY ROAD together. I’m wondering again, as I wondered after re-watching BEYOND THUNDERDOME recently... why weren't there a ton of these? Even though Mel Gibson (pun intended) drives these movies, I think the ruined world is just as interesting in itself.  I suppose you could say that every post-Apocalyptic comic after '81 has basically been a MAD MAX comic, but still. Odds are, we’ll see plenty of these anyway whenever FURY ROAD rolls out.

Anyway, I'm sure there are oodles more movies just begging to be continued or interpreted in comics form. So let's hear what you Comic Vine maniacs want to see.
