I wonder if they'll Selina have friends who are prostitutes. Would be an interesting scenario.

Not liking it. The premise rubs me wrong, Batman knew all the villains when he was a kid, him and Selena meeting and having adventures while Jim Gordon kicks ass in 12A style justice? *Eye roll*

I still say it would have been better to have a young Bruce Wayne globetrotting and change destination every one or two seasons and with him arriving back as Batman.

Waaaaiiit a minute! If Cobblepot wasn't short or fat or big-nosed, then why is he still evil if there was nothing to bully him for?

That would be cool but I don't think it would ever be green-lit due to financial costs. Either they'd have to film in those parts of the world (crazy logistics) or build elaborate outside locales within studio lots.

@golden_cod: That's the real issue, but if he stayed in each place for a season or two at a time they could probably make it work. This just seems so cheesy.

I think Bruce will be a minor part of the show, with the focus being on Gordon.

Though I don't believe this show will go in this direction, I think something in the vein of Gotham Central would be interesting. Gotham is a city steeped in sordid history that could be explored. In particular I'm thinking of Synder's Gates of Gotham and the Court of Owls as examples of Gotham's history rearing its ugly head for Gordon to deal with.

As a fan of the comics, I would die in pleasure and then resurrect myself if we could get this plotline only done by HBO. If it got enough views..maybe even eventually crafting the whole batman mythos with the BatFamily.

Only problem with your idea is that we are technically getting that with Arrow.

I'm going to ignore comics though and just enjoy this take. Not expecting it to be very true to the source material.

Everything's better on HBO, bro.

Everything.

It's not that it's different from the SM, it's just so bloody cheesy, we'll see how it pans out and I'll watch the first few episodes, but my hopes are currently limited, the general premise is very Hollywood.

@cattlebattle: Yes it is, Bret Mckenzie. He was a main character on Southland and was amazing on the show. I didnt care for his iteration of Batman, but the way he looks and sounds in this show I think he can pull off a great young Gordon

As a comics fan; as someone who feels like they intimately know Gotham City: I don't like the look of this show. However, this show looks like it has alot of potential. That short trailer pulled me in.

I feel like the network is going the same route with Gotham as they are with Constantine. As a fanboy, I'm not crazy about how either show looks, but I could definitely see them being mainstream success'.

Cool trailer. Selina seems like an unnecessary addition though. Hopefully there won't be any puppy love subplot between her and Bruce.

Donal Logue is one of my favorite tough/funny guy actors perfect casting

Jada being Fish Mooney is hard since I have zero clue who that is. Only Mooney in DC i know is Jim and would be nice that this is sort of homage to him.

I am wondering what kind of characters would be on the show since quite a few of them would be young. So, who from the comics could appear? I'm thinking Falcone, Hugo Strange and Rupert Thorne. Probably the Arkham's also. Might be nice to see the Court of Owls in the background. Potentially the Kane's, Copplepots and Elliot families? Anyone have any thoughts?

It's the general concept of all these characters intermingling years before he became Batman. It's so... dorky.

@rogueshadow: The way I see it, this is like Smallville, a non canon, elseworlds story. I liked Smallville, despite it having Clark meeting half of the JL as a teen, so, I could get behind this.

Yeah, but I didn't like Smallville either, at least of what I saw, I watched the first 10 episodes or so and couldn't get into it.

@rogueshadow:

Try from the 2nd Season... may be you will stil not like Smallville, but from the 2nd Season Smallville start to growth, while 1st Season is really boring and horrible. I'm a Smallville fan, and well... neither I like the First Season... so try to go on, and judge the rest, maybe you change idea :)

... Why? Why is this necessary? Why is this a thing? It looks kind of cool, but really. It's proclaiming to tell the story of Gotham. Okay, cool premise. But this is ridiculous: Starting it back when Bruce was a kid, and NOT focusing on him globetrotting to become Batman, as mentioned above, is ridiculous.

Even more so when focused through Gordon, and this trailer highlights all the reasons that's a problem: "Only we can stop these guys!" Except it's called GOTHAM. With BRUCE WAYNE. Pre-Batman! We KNOW they're going to survive for Batman to stop them. We KNOW they're not going to be stopped. Hell, they're only going to get worse!

Gordon doesn't win this fight. He can't. The Wayne murder IS going to go unsolved. All the villains ARE going to remain released to gain strength. Bruce Wayne IS going to grow up and become Batman. Gordon ISN'T going to have any real effect on anyone or anything until Batman comes along. These are all things that HAVE to happen, because if they don't, if Gordon is portrayed as even MILDLY competent at his job, then it raises the question of why do they need Batman? And that can't happen.

So why does this show exist? Somebody please explain it to me. Give me a reason to be hyped about this show. Please. I want to be hyped. Somebody give me a reason to be.
