This Week's 'Action Comics' Has Superman in Chains

Check out the preview for the second issue of 'Action Comics' #2 and decide for yourself if it's a series you should add to your pull list.

If you read the first issue of Action Comics then you may recall that when we last saw Superman he was in a very sticky situation. After risking his life to save innocent people, he will once again be persecuted by those who do not understand him. Based on the cover and accompanying title of Action Comics #2, Superman will not only be "in chains," he'll be strapped down into an electric chair.

In his weakest moment, Superman is taken down – but by whom? And if the world wasn't ready for a man with super powers, they're utterly unprepared for the rage of a Superman cornered! The cornerstone character of the new DCU continues his debut adventure!

The new interpretation of the "man of steel" is being written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Rags Morales. Morrison's 'Superman' isn't only just a younger version of the character, he is also extremely different than any version of 'Superman' we have seen; and that's completely intentional.

"For me, the real thing was writing a Superman who's a bit more rough and ready and who threatens people quite happily," he says. "I didn't expect to enjoy that as much as I enjoyed doing the Zen Superman, but I've been really having fun with this brash kid Superman who doesn't have any parents to tell him what not to do."

By "zen" Superman we presume Morrison is referring to 'All-Star Superman;' a staple in any true comic readers' collection. This Wednesday we'll see issue #2 of 'Action Comics,' and if you need some convincing as to whether or not it's a book you should add to your pull list then check out the preview of the issue below courtesy of the USA Today.

What do you think of this young, brash man of steel? And can anything hold 'Supes' down?
