The Magdalena/Daredevil Preview/Review

"Fine, I'll give you a piggy-back ride once around Hell's Kitchen."
Here's another review/preview.  The Magdalena/Daredevil comes out this Wednesday.  I have to say, Phil Hester and Ande Parks do a kick ass version of Daredevil.  I love what Bendis has been doing but the whole identity/marriage stuff just hasn't seemed right.  This is the traditional Daredevil that I grew up with.  Does that mean it's a step backwards for the character?  If so, I don't care.  Hester delivers some really cool images of Daredevil and makes good use of shadows and silhouettes.  I can't remember the last time I was really cheering for Daredevil as he was doing his stuff.

Magdalena?  I've only read her in Witchblade and First Born.  I like the concept of the character.  Pretty cool.  What did bother me about her here is the way she was portrayed.  I don't know if that's just how her character is but she seemed a tad...dim at times.  We get the typical and expected missunderstanding/heroes-fighting sequence.  Guess who had the misunderstanding?  There was also another moment in the issue where she was gonna make a huge mistake and I was practically screaming at her to wisen up.  Almost like in the horror movies where you see the killer coming up from behind and the character is just slowly strolling along a darkened hallway.

Over all it was a pretty good issue.  Will it have any major impact for either character?  Maybe not.  I would've liked to see this as a mini-series rather than a one-shot.  But it was a great showcase of them.  Seeing them in action as they should be portrayed.  I spoke with Phil Hester after I interviewed him and I know this was something he was excited about doing.  If you're a fan of either Daredevil, Magdalena, or Phil Hester, you owe it to yourself to check this out.

4.5 out of 5 stars!
