Spielberg Attached To "HALO" Movie?

The famous director/producer may have found his latest project

It started out as a video game, quickly was turned into a comic book, and not long afterward inspired a script. Stuart Beattie's who's recent script work include "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" also wrote the screenplay for "Halo: The Fall Of Reach." Beattie seemed to have been pushing the script back in 2007, yet more recently, news had circulated that the "Halo" movie project had fallen completely flat.

Perhaps it was the success of Stuart Beattie's latest project, the "G.I. Joe" film, or maybe it is simply the sort of project that Stephen Spielberg had been looking for because rumors have once again, begun to circulate. According to IESB news, famed director/producer Stephen Spielberg is a huge fan of Beattie's script and apparently  he has been searching for a new project now that Dreamworks lost "Transformers" to Paramount.

I am a bit skeptical over the prospect of a "Halo" movie written by the same guy that brought us " G.I. Joe;" after all, one of my biggest complaints with the "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" movie was, in fact, the script. Additionally, not everything with Spielberg's name means quality. What are your thoughts? Are you a fan of the game? Have you read the comic book?

The comic was not great and the issues never came out on time. The games are great shooters with a decent story, but the real value is in the online gameplay

The games were great so hopefully, the movies wouldn't ruin a great franchise...

I was hoping that Peter Jackson and Wingnut would carry on producing Halo, not Spielberg.

Well, for a first film in a possible trilogy "Fall of Reach" wouldn't be a bad start. It deals with John's selection to the Spartan 2 program and becoming Spartan-117. It also introduces the Covenant and the ring pretty well. The thing is though, how much would the writer take into consideration of the book into his script? But I guess if Spielberg loved it, it must good. I don't know, just make it come out well and serious.

What?!  Spielberg?!  What happened to Neill Blomkamp?  The whole reason the Halo movie has not already come out is because the bord of directors of Peter Jacksons production company didn't agree with Jacksons choice of Neill Blomkamp to direct the Halo movie.  They didn't think he had enough directing experiance for them to risk putting so much money on the line, and so they put the movie on hold.  Thats kind of the reason that Jackson and Blomkamp have made Blomkamp's short District 9 video into a full length movie; as a test of Blomkamp's directing ability and to show the rest of Jacksons company that he is capable of directing Halo.

Never played the games, but Spielberg can make some amazing war movies. The combination of scifi and war movie could make for a pretty amazing film.

Um, the cut scenes from Halo pretty much were a movie. The voice acting and story was great. Must Hollywood wipe their ass on everything that can get their hands on? Those suits in GI JOE (which I'm not seeing for many years, I'd have to be really bored.) are pretty much Halo-esque suits. I don't see the point in making this movie other than raking in some money and ruining a game franchise

One word...

PHAIL.
Give it all to Lucas! Remember Star Wars? ¬¬
If he can do all that with 3 movies stretching from the 70's into the 80's and 3 more movies in the near future,  just think what he could do with 1 movie. In this present. Think of how great the effects will be >.<

I understand people being iffy since this is the guy who wrote G.I. Joe, but he also wrote the first Pirates of the Caribbean (the only good one) and Collateral, which is an amazing film. So he is very hit-or-miss.

The movie with Jamie Fox as a cab driver and Tom Cruse as an assasin?  That was a really good movie.

What worries me as not only a gamer but a fan of the Halo franchise is the fact that Hollywood has a habit of taking things that it doesn't understand and adding their unique tweaks to something that has a hardcore following, I mean the character of Master Cheif is as iconic as Bugs Bunny. With  the Halo series it could very well turn into Master Cheif being a goofball character and everyone in the series alienated. This could very well be hit or miss. I guess we'll see what happens in the near future.
