Snyder States Zod is a Mere Rumor in Superman

At least for now it's a rumor.

With any project, whether it be film, television, comics, etc, rumors will blaze across the internet like a California wild fire, especially when it comes to casting rumors and what characters will appear in a film based off of a comic book. Badtaste recently had an interview with Zack Snyder, the director for the upcoming Superman film about his “fight” for the spot of director in the upcoming Superman film.

I'm not sure what I've done, it wasn't like a run race, which would have been easier to do. Anyway, I think that you have to do your best to describe this world and that the character of Superman needs to be relevant again, without disrespecting his mythology. That's my goal.

It seems like out of all the directors involved in the “race” for the director’s chair, Warner Brothers and DC Comics liked what Snyder had to offer the most. We've seen five Superman films in the past 40 years, and although a few of them are pretty darn good, seldom do we see the Man of Steel fight someone who can go toe-to-toe with him. Cue internet rumors. Many people are speculating that General Zod, a fellow Kryptonian, will be the villain in the film, a man who is on the same level as Kal-El in every way. However, Snyder shot down the speculation: "For now it's just a rumor.

That doesn't mean Zod may eventually be a part of the series, or even in this film, but it's probably not at the top of Snyder's list of who he'd like to see Superman match wits with. However, if you look at Superman's rogues gallery, there aren't too many who would put up a good fight that are still very recognizable to fans. True, we could see characters like Darkseid, Mongul, Metallo, or Doomsday, all characters who would put up a good fight, but if there's one thing most Superman fans could agree with it's that many are sick of seeing Lex Luthor. Lex is a great character, don't get me wrong, but he's been in almost every Superman film, and when you have a character with all these super-human powers, you want to see him use them on his enemies. Sure, you can have Supes punch Lex in the face at full force, but then Lex's head explodes and the film is over 2 minutes in. Maybe Snyder has something bigger in mind. A threat we haven't seen on film. What do you guys think? What Superman villain would be fitting for the new film?
