Finally the single release of all twenty-six episodes of Wolverine and the X-Men is available. There isn't a lot left to be said about this series. Chances are you have already watched all the episodes. I also recently reviewed the release of the final three episodes

Was the series perfect? No, but it came pretty darn close. This is an X-Men/Marvel cartoon series I would love to be able to watch every week. Unfortunately for reasons beyond their control, the show was canceled after only one season. I have been told and common sense say that the chances of another X-Men animated series is pretty good. It's just too bad this one had to end just when everything was working so well.

Did this series work as a comic book adaption?

Not all animated adaptions have been successful or faithful to their comic book counterparts. I think it goes without saying that you're going to want this collection in your personal home library. Thankfully, Lionsgate sent me a copy early and I was able to re-watch all twenty-six episodes once again. The show was highly ambitious and despite being a tease that we won't get a second season, you will want to go back and watch the series from the beginning from time to time.

What about the Special Features? I mentioned in my last review that the commentary is definitely worth listening to. I'm not a huge fan of listening to people talk while watching a movie or show, but the guys here are hilarious. They also give a ton of insight about what went into each episode and facts that weren't made public at the time.

There is also a making of feature: "The Inner Circle: Reflections on Wolverine and the X-Men." It's a 19-minute feature that gives you more information and really makes you realize how dark the show was and how lucky we were to get a show that wasn't watered down for television.

There is also a "Making of Wolverine and the X-Men" feature. This is a five minute segment that gets right down to what happened in making the show.

You also get some trailers for Lionsgate releases: Alpha and Omega, Thor: Tales of Asgard, Planet Hulk, Next Avengers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7, Super Capers and Speed Racer: The Next Generation - The Fast Track.

The audio and video look great. The animation moves smoothly and the show looks brilliant even though it has a sort of muted color scheme to it.

I would give this series a 4.5 out of 5. If for some reason you missed out on the show when it aired, do yourself a favor and buy this or put it on your gift list. There's so many different characters here and the whole series has such a wide feel to it. It's available on DVD and Blu-ray. Make sure to pick it up. It's in stores today.
