Loki brought the the party from Asguard to Earth in this New Ultimates series as the Ultimates reformed to battle Loki's army. With Thor gone, and many other heroes because of the recent Ultimatum series, can this new group of Ultimates defeat the Loki army and work together as a team?
The Good
Best part about this book is the work of Frank Cho. It's curvy and sexy and I love how this guy sets up action. His two-page splash page with Ka-zar and Shanna is amazingly detailed and it really pops. The art is the highlight of this book, but I feel the writing is just as good. I know there's rumblings about whether or not Jeph Loeb is a good writer. I think this guy is great. He's great at writing action-packed stories with a dash of mystery and intrigue. If you don't have fun reading this book, then I don't know why you read at all. I really like the man verses woman storyline going on in this book. We may see this in movies quite a bit, but not so much in comics. It feels fresh here. I can't wait to see how Thor comes back (if he does) and whether or not a the Ultimates will survive this story.
The Bad
One thing I've never really liked about Ultimate Captain America, which continues here, is that he's a total D-bag. His "holier than thou" attitude and how he treats his own team mates is despicable and he sometimes comes off more of a villain than a hero.
The Verdict
This book was a lot of fun. If you've been following the Ultimate universe, especially the revamp, I highly suggest this book. Cho's artwork is beautiful, and Loeb's writing is like a fun summer-blockbuster. This is one of those books you can plop down on the couch with, cold drink in your hand, and just relax and read.
"I wish I got into the Ultimates earlier, it seems like I'm so far behind now... :-( "
that's to bad. Ive been reading for years and personally my favorite book in the past 10 has been with out a doubt Millar Ultimates run. It all clicks on the run but it's worth picking up in trade. Each one gets better and better and Ultimates Volume 2 book 2 is incredible. highly reccomended.
I actually like the Ultimate Cap. Millars version anyway. He's badass and knows it, and doesn't hold back. His impaling of Abdul Al Rahman was classic and so was his quote before it. "I like to know a mans name before I put him in the ground" No boy scout here and that's what originally sold the Ulitmate U.
@pixelized: Same exact reason why I am buying this today too! Was the enchantress in it a lot? because I wont buy it if she is in it for a couple of pages or less. She is one of my favorite female villains of marvel that does not get enough attention such as not giving her a stand alone story but for guest appearances lately yeah.

I've only flipped through it and haven't read the story but she seems to be playing a large part in Valkyrie/Lady Thor's life. Beautiful art as well.
@inferiorego: I read the first issue... and although the set up was... ok... I thought the sex innuendo in the book was a little too much... I would've given the last issue a 2.5/5...
My only problem with this issue is that it suffers from Jeph Loeb writing all his women as compete and utter b-----s and with no back-bone either. I mean, I like this story so far but if you look at this, Ultimatum, and Ultimates 3, he writes women as little more than hormonal play things. Hulk shows this at points too
Its really putting a twist on the ultimate universe. I TOTALLY agree with captain america, Hes a douche in this. I hated how he had the inner monologue. It felt like a villian was the main character. He seemed like such a cool guy in Ultimate Comics Avengers. I actually have never read Ultimates 2 or 3, but i read the wiki entries on them. I love the first issue and this one. @greenenvy: Yes shes in it more than any other character
I think that this title is one of those that if you're not into the Ultimate Universe since it's inception, you're not going to really like this series. I love Frank Cho's artwork, but I could give a rat's patoot about Ultimate-ZARDA, COLONEL DANVERS, VALKYRIE and AMORA.
What happened to Cap's shield in this issue was cool, but how "what happened" happened was a little whack.
