You're going to have a lot of fun laughing at Hercules, here.
75 years in the future, Hercules' wild ways cause headaches for his royal grandchildren as well as possible saboteurs.
The Good
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of humor in this book, which puts Hercules into as many situations that paint him as dim, drunk dunce as possible. I was particularly amused by the scene Herc stumbles into his palace's entrance and "confronts" a potted plant by relieving himself on it. The various products advertised throughout gave me a chuckle as well, like the fart silencer and "drunkenness-suppressing helmet" Herc refuses to wear simply because he thinks it looks stupid. Hell... even his Skrull sidekick was spouting off some clever smartass lines. I need to mention too how good it was to see Ron Lim drawing this book - - I haven't seen his art in a while.
The Bad
This issue really makes no effort to bring new readers up to speed - - or even experienced readers who're unfamiliar with the specific run of Hercules that this is continuing, for that matter. I have no idea when this storyline started - - if it was months, years or even decades ago - - and I pretty much had to piece together who the members of Herc's extended future family were on my own. A simple recap page at the front would have gone a long way.
The Verdict - 3.5/5
This is one of the rare situations where I've actually had no idea where a Marvel story was coming from. I didn't know until today that Bob Layton had a run on Hercules, nor that it was set in the future, nor that this was a follow-up, nor that it was even supposed to be funny. And it is pretty funny. It just revels in the notion of Hercules being this big buffoon. Even if you're aren't familiar with anything about the series, I recommend picking this up for a good laugh.
