Report: Constantine Not Cancelled by NBC

Rumors are flying back and forth about the fate of the NBC show.

No Caption Provided

[ORIGINAL STORY, UPDATES BELOW]

Fans of the NBC show Constantine have been patiently waiting for news about a possible second season, and there are reports coming in that Constantine has been cancelled. According to Buzzfeed, Constantine is on the list of NBC shows getting dumped by the network. Said cancellation was fact checked with the network as reported by Buzzfeed's Kate Aurthur.

NBC has yet to confirm or deny reports.

The show didn't bring in the numbers that the network wanted and while it found a horde of devoted followers, it wasn't enough for NBC to order a full season of the show. After the season finale, the writers of Constantine stated it wasn't over yet and even up until April 6, when showrunner Daniel Cerone sent this out.

Rumors that the show was going to go to Syfy, under a different name, have been debunked, and if this cancellation is true, there's still a chance Constantine could live on at another network. The writers and showrunners have been quiet about all of this since the beginning of April, on Twitter, so there's obviously something going on.

[UPDATE 1] Kate Aurthur, who originally broke the news about this is now saying that the show is still awaiting news on cancellation after reporting it dead earlier.

[UPDATE 2] Comicbook.com got word from showrunner Daniel Cerone about the future of the show.

I just received confirmation from the corporate offices at NBC. I was assured that Constantine has not been canceled and our pitch meeting to discuss a potential second season remains on the books. By the way, this is a pitch meeting involving the president of Warner Bros and and the entertainment heads of NBC. Nobody at this incredibly busy time of the development season has time to waste taking pointless meetings.

Now, is it fair to say that Constantine is a long shot? Sure, that's fair to say. While we marginally improved a tough time slot for NBC, we're a very expensive show to produce. A lot of NBC's decision making will not doubt hinge on their new pilots and how they feel those new shows would fare as a companion piece to Grimm, versus a second season of Constantine.

We'll keep you updated as more news breaks about the show's future.

Well that's a bummer. I didn't watch it myself but it always sucks when your show gets canceled (especially since it's a comic show.)

Can't say I wasn't expecting this from the beginning. I knew NBC wouldn't have confidence in this show. Too bad, I really like it and wished they would've at least been able to finish its first arc.

Can't say I was a Hugh fan of Constantine, but I'm sad for its fans. I hope it goes to a network that actually treats it well.

It's all about ratings, not quality.

Gotham is averaging a 2.28 rating(though it fell it's ratings fell 25% this last episode)

while Constantine averaged a 0.92 rating.

How does AoS go from the best CBTV show(after the winter finale), to a crap show?

Weren't they pronouncing his name wrong in the show anyway? I read somewhere that the pronunciation of his name is a huge deal in the comics but they just went full steam with the mispronunciation on the show.

I hate s*** like that.

AoS may have gotten better since the first season, but it's still cr** compared to other shows (Flash, Daredevil).

Also, I don't understand people that call Arrow a cr** show. Yes, it's third season has been slower compared to the first two, but those seasons were awesome. You can't judge an entire show based on one season.

Sad that this was canned but Gotham is still lurking about, but hey what you gonna do? Pray for SyFy to pick it up though I doubt it would be as good as it would probably get half the budget.

What was Gotham last episode 18-49 rating 1.7? Isn't that to low for the first season in a Fox series? AoS first season that was not good until Cap 2 connection never had 18-49 ratings bellow 1.8...

I don't think you need to censor crap. Anyway the user i was responding to, had said aos was the best CB show on tv after the winter finale, so i wanted to know how his opinion had changed so much.

AoS this season imo is just as good/better then The Flash.

You can't judge an entire show based on one season. And yet that's what everyone does to AoS.

How does AoS go from the best CBTV show(after the winter finale), to a crap show?

1.) It's quite far from the "best CBTV show" regardless of whatever happened after Winter Soldier. Walking Dead and Daredevil are leagues ahead like I've already expressed to you numerous times in other threads amongst other (admitedly changing) opinions that I've had about these shows.

2.) I don't think your properly read what I wrote so I'll explain;

I like how crap shows like Arrow, Agents of Shield and Gotham can get second seasons

Now the key part is obviously the underlined section where I stated how these shows can get secondseasons. Now since you obviously don't want to discuss Arrow & Gotham I'll continue this conversation with Agents of Shield.

Yes the second season vastly different from the first in many ways; hell it could almost be considered an entirely different show when comparing both seasons. But referring back to the first season like I've explicitly stated now and many other times; it sucked whether hardcore fanboys want to admit it or not and honestly did not deserve a second season at that time. Ranging from cheesy one liners, to clunky dialogue, to subpar CGI, I'm surprised the show made it past the pilot episode. Amd whether fanboys want to admit this part, the only thing that kept that show alive was the fact it was a Marvel Studios production and tied in with one of the biggest films of all time. That is literally all that it had going for it throughout 17/22 episodes of its first season -- and somehow managed to score another season despite pisspoor reviews and a drastic drop in ratings before the show could even find its stride. If this was any other show it would have been cancelled so damn quick we wouldn't even remember the show even existed. But Marvel/Disney/ABC refused to let the show die despite all of that because they finally saw the potential that it had to offer.

So yes, I stand by my statement when I say; "I like how crap shows like Arrow, Agents of Shield and Gotham can get second seasons but a decent show like Constantine gets canned."

Yup, his name isn't pronounced "Constinteen", it's pronounced "Constintyne" which is one of the things that bothered me. Also the "not being able to smoke" bothered me because that's a huge part of his personality, dude's a heavy chain smoker

I never thought there would come a day where I would admit that this is the best comic book show on television.

Ok, so you're not saying it's a crap show now, you're saying it was a crap show in season one, is that correct?

In the 2013-14 season Agents of SHIELD was ABC's 5th highest rated show, any show with those rating's would've been renewed. But i'm sure it didn't hurt that it had those connections.

Do I really have to surf the interweb to find the link and specific posts to show you where I flat out corrected myself to you and elaborated on my evolving views on these shows? Because since that post you just quoted, I've had to explain myself to you numerous times about how I find the first season to be crap yet the second season is better. In one of those posts, I distinctly telling you that while I did say at one point that this was the best CBTV show (still miles behind The Walking Dead), I had re-watched the second season and noticed many areas of improvement and how it's not quite on the level of quality I thought this show was on but how was getting there.

Don't have to reply to this, but I should note here though for any future reference that I've now seen what Marvel had to offer with their Daredevil on Netflix this last weekend and find myself suffering through AoS S2 because I now know Marvel just kicked up their very own competition in a plethora of ways. In all honesty Daredevil makes AoS S2 look like AoS S1 in comparison. I guess this goes back to what I was saying about evolving opinions, eh?

In the 2013-14 season Agents of SHIELD was ABC's 5th highest rated show, any show with those rating's would've been renewed. But i'm sure it didn't hurt that it had those connections.

Okay, that still doesn't help the fact that they lost over 60% of their viewership before the S1 mid-season. Especially when you compare it to other shows on different networks. But that isn't the topic nor argument that I'm trying to get at so whatever.

@matthewparker: Second season of AoS is so good. The MCU is being very well fleshed with the show. The show has been great since Cap 2. Seeing the fallout of Shield on TV is a smart move since AoU probably doesn't have enough time to discuss much. With Slade Wilson/Deathstroke the second season of Arrow had one of the best depicted villains in a comic TV series (although season 3 has slumped a bit). I have no idea if Constantine was good or not but AoS and Arrow are both pretty damn good.

I wasn't watching this (I've never been too much into the whole magic-corner of the DCU) but based on the articles and news I saw on comicvine I gotta say: weren't we all expecting this to happen?

Which by the way, I find a shame, if only out of solidarity with my fellow comics fans.

I couldn't remember exactly how the conversations went, but I remember your opinion going from it's the best CBTV to it's good/ok. But i was just surprised you now thought it was a crap show. But now i know you were talking about S1.

I like how crap shows like Arrow, Agents of Shield and Gotham can get second seasons but a decent show like Constantine gets canned.

How does AoS go from the best CBTV show(after the winter finale), to a crap show?

AoS is the only bad show from the ones he mentioned.

It's really not a bad show, but everyone has different opinions.

I'm truly heartbroken, I absolutely loved this show.

... #SaveConstantine

(I don't care if it's hopeless, I still wanna try)

Yeah i'm sorry man, hopefully another network will pick it up.

Because opinions? I didn't like Constantine, but I like Arrow. Not that I thought Constantine was crap, just not something I'm into. Granted, pretty much everything has an audience. They just have to tune in. Isn't always the case, such as was this. They tuned in for Arrow, AoS, and Gotham.

gotham second season and constantine canceled .....no comments

People will watch garbage if it's connected to Batman but won't watch a good show if they don't know who the main character is.

This guy gets it. I'm just waiting on them to do a movie about the first time Bruce Wayne went to a public bathroom. No doubt it would outsell most anything else on the market.
