@eto: And it could be a great 10 issues. Though I think people said the same of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and that one is still going with no signs of being cancelled.

Looks like a fun series, will give a shot.

Look, I know this has been going on in comics for ages. But do we really have to keep putting female characters in sexy poses?

I'm more worried about her spine. That's some Liefeld-level of contortionism, there.

The art definitely seems like it's aimed at the "I can draw this too" teen crowd. Then there's the fanfic and big franchise name drops endlessly, so it's definitely aimed at that crowd.

Was kinda hoping this would be more than that because I actually kinda liked Nadia in Avengers. Oh well... my wallet will be happier at least.

Actually the writing is fun and the art is a good match to it. If they are gearing this toward the pre-teen age group it works. I still wish marvel would put some work into coming up with new names for new characters, but I guess that's out of fashion.

They're talking about the robot.... Look at that spine, her chest front and center, and how she sticking her butt out.....

Why does it seem that almost all female led books from Marvel have to be cutesy nowadays??

@slimebeherit: Moon Girl should be cancelled it make no sense why it's still ongoing when it fails to ship 9000 issues a month. Most books are canned if they can't ship 16 000.

As for this book it will not last long but could be fun. The art looks nice story seems upbeat.

This looks like a fun 60's era Marvel comic and honestly I can't think of a better tone to start a new Wasp off with. The cover though, is her spine okay? Also, why do we need the sexy shot of an underage teen?

@the_stegman: The only cutesy ones I can think of are Squirrel Girl, Hellcat, and this. The rest all seem normal. I mean Hawkeye is nowhere near cutesy, She-Hulk is going through PTSD, who knows what's going to happen in Captain Marvel's book now after CWII, Ms. Marvel is in the vain of Spider-Man, all the Spider lady books are pretty normal superhero fare etc. I think it's just because there are no cutesy men led books, that it seems like there are more than there are.

She was nine at the time.

Im well aware of the single issue sales, but my point still stands. A series people thought wouldn't get to double digits, is still chugging along, the same could be true of Wasp.

Isn't that going a bit far? When I think sexy robots I think of Galaxina, the robot double of Wonder Woman from her tv show, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine... That robot from Metropolis... and of course Jacosta from her first appearance. Now those were sexy robots, but this? Labeling this a sex pose is just silly in my opinion.

I suppose it does but it does entail that people throw away what they know about the industry and it's practices when it comes to sales. I don't want Wasp to fail, but when it comes to Moon Girl I do understand why people dislike the book or feel it gets special treatment when books like Mockingbird and Howard the Duck got canned yet shipped double and triple of what Moon Girl or Hell Cat does.

I think in the end it's not always sales figures alone, it's what the editors are willing to go with because they like the characters, like the authors (or the authors are blackmailing them with something) or they have future plans and want the character to be around long enough to factor into those plans.

Maybe that is the case, but it still shocking that Marvel has not one but two books that aren't even in the top 150 books shipped monthly and they are still going strong. I mean Moon Girl just got a soft relaunch to bring in more readers and it still only shipped 10 000.

Been reading several, great female protagonist series of Marvel that includes All New Wolverine, Silk, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Gwen and Hawkeye (Kate Bishop). This Wasp series will do nicely.

What's wrong with giving Janet Van Dyne her own series, instead of this new character?

She's old, this character is young and pretty much a blank slate. Personally I think Jan has more potential, but marvel being marvel they go with the sure-thing-market-focus-tested-cliche character and hope it works.

To be fair she doesn't look that bad, but I get the feeling if I get to interested in her Bendis or someone else will simply kill her for impact in the next big event. Or in a year or two her origin and character will be completely re-written, or they might decide that they need a black wasp or something like that and she'll be tossed aside. It's better I've found to get these issues out of the discount bins in a year or two than to chance them now.

A couple other female lead books with a more serious tone are: Gamora, Invincible Iron-Man, Hulk, Jessica Jones, Scarlet Witch, and All-New Wolverine.

Only way to prevent insane websites that don't cater to comic readers from latching onto one violent issue and kicking up a social media firestorm for clicks.

Marvel can sell books to anyone w/o trying to make them look "girly". You think females can't take comics seriously?

So you're saying not appealing to another demographic is a better way to attract that demographic? People can like whatever they want but you have try different things if you want to get different audience. You're just saying "Just keep everything the same, I'm sure new people will come". As to wether I think women can't take comics seriously, there's plenty of people that don't take comics seriously.

By trying to introduce so many diverce new characters Marvel are dooming them because each one of them is fun, witty and relatable. They want diversity but they are getting identicalness.
