So many spider character waters down the main one. Especially now that writers have turned him into Stark.

Not really. Having a bunch of Spiders doesn't water down the main one any more than having a bunch of Batman wannabees could hurt Batman. Smart move to make him into Stark like finally letting Spiderman grow up & further develop, won't be shocked if Spiderman in the MCU replaces Iron Man in the long run. Also there's been a bunch of Spider copycats running around for a while(where u been?). I can't wait for Web Warriors!!! MORE SPIDERMAN PLEASE!!!!

I'm really not diggin' this preview. I fell off the last series near the end, I thought and hoped that he had returned to 2099.

The banter seemed kinda weird and forced... And I think it should be called "Spider-Man 2099 Today!"

Other than that, an OK preview.

We disagree I believe it does and yes having bunch of Batman wannabees in the same universe does water him down even though there are differences in the two's situation. I also disagree it was a smart move turning him into Stark. There were many ways for him to grow up and develop while sticking to the character. If fact they've done so in the past. They just didn't stick to it.

I never said there wasn't many spiders before. I always found it to be an issue but there were far less before and more to separate them then they're now. Which made it easier to look past. Furthermore the fact that they pull him on what I believe is an unPeter like road it makes worse.

I can't wait for Web Warriors!!! MORE SPIDERMAN PLEASE!!!!

Maybe it wasn't your intention but at this timing that comes off as a dig. Lets keep it cool ok.

@dernman: This, like Dan Slott's Superior Spider-Man, wont last forever. Unless its highly successful. But its a fun experiment. What if Peter Parker fulfilled his potential. (In the original Stan Lee Ditko comics Peter was on his way to becoming the next Tony Stark or Reed Richards.) With so many Spider-Characters running around it not only leave Peter open to run a successful company, but it also allows him to take his responsibility to the next level. The more power and resources Peter gets the more he will feel like he has to do. He is different from Stark in how he responds to his surroundings. Like Superior Spider-Man, I can imagine this could be a fun character study.

@artisticneedham:

It's more than a character study because it's part of his history now which I feel warps his character line.

It would just be a character study if it was out of canon where I wouldn't have a problem with it. You shouldn't deal with something like this in main continuity especially with what I feel is so off the track for him as this.

Not really especially in issues before superior where they try to push Tony as a futurist. For a character who's suppose to be a capitalist he was the opposite. It's not the only time either. There is enough like that you can't get away from him being Tony just because a few things might be different.

Anyway I'm done with this convo for awhile until the next news comes out.

Looking forward to 2099 spidey returning. As far as people saying they're watering down the market with too many spiders same as the bat family.

Thats nonsense.... if your a person who likes the main character spidey/bats, then more then likely youd pick up or try someone in their family of titles.

No one is putting a gun to your head to buy the issues.

I, for one, agree. I despise all these Spider-Man wannabes, it makes Peter seem less unique. And even if no one's forcing you to buy the books, it doesn't change the fact that these wannabes still exist and take away from the original.

why do people want this character to never grow? He has been the same down on his luck character for 50 years. But the same people hate brand new day?

This is exactly what I was thinking. Peter has been set up time and time again to be a scientific and somewhat engineering genius that holds his own with Reed Richards, Bruce Banner and Tony Stark. So much so that Stark hired him for his skills just before Civil War. This is a natural evolution of the character.

It was more unrealistic to expect someone of his genius to never figure out a way of leveraging his skills and knowledge for a bigger purpose. Same concept for Spider-Man. He is commonly referred to being one of the greatest super heroes of his time (cited in the 2099 books and other similar future story arcs) but we are to believe that he never tackles tasks outside of NYC?

This is a fun evolution of the character and fun to see how he would mentor other Spiders that serve as a mix at different stages in their lives: Miles as that still in school version, Miguel as the tired and wanting to retire after finding himself too violent, Silk as the new and powerful spider lacking training and family support, etc. None of this detracts from the evolving arc of Peter himself as he is called to grow and become a greater character.

Never again watched a Spider-Man cartoon after seeing a couple episodes of Ultimate Spider-Man

I'm glad someone agrees. Past couple of days I've been getting nothing but disagreement concerning Spider-Man. :p

The mask in the first pic makes him look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Spiderman or Spideraphael lol

But in all seriousness, looks good. I read the last series, good stuff and for the record:

Miguel O'Hara>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Miles

Any day. I like how O'Hara is talking with Pete that's awesome.

I like Spidey 2099, especially when written by Peter David. But I'm starting to miss the dystopian future premise, and Miguel O'Hara's old supporting cast, like Gabriel O'Hara, Xina Kwan, Lyla (seldom seen these days), and even some of his old rogues like Vulture 2099.

Exactly how I feel, i'm not sure why they want Peter to remain a down on his luck 22 year old forever. I like them expanding on the character but people seem very sensitive of Spider-Man deviating (even slightly) from the status quo.

Leonardi draws the new costume the best, unsurprisingly.

Looking forward to more Miguel as usual!
