I'm actually liking the new weaker Superman ALOT more. It's far more intriguing seeing Superman really struggle in his fights.

Show of hands, who else thinks this whole "Barely powered Superman" would have worked better as an Elseworlds ongoing where this just IS the Superman of that world?

On another note? People who say they like this Superman MORE? Are not wrong, just don't get Superman in GENERAL. For Superman it's never a question of IF he'll win, it's a matter of HOW he will win. You KNOW he's gonna win, it's a given. This is true for basically ALL superheroes, but especially true for Superman. People say Superman is overpowered? Allow me to introduce you to Stardust the Super Wizard

A Golden Age hero who can put Silver Age Superman and yes even THE SILVER SURFER or SENTRY to shame when it comes to how over powered he is. How powerful is he? His power? Is that he has ALL the powers, and no he's not magic either. Any power possible you can think of? You bet your behind he's got it. One story? He defeated a mad scientist by removing the scientist's head with telekinesis keeping it alive with his "Stasis Field" power and throwing it into space to be devoured by a cosmic head eating space beast.

Puts the whole "Superman is WAY too powerful" argument in perspective doesn't it?

@batman3000: I'd read it.... I mean actually power wise right NOW? Actually reminding me of Realworlds Superman

Realworlds Superman is a story about the power of Superman. Yes, this particular Superman didn't have powers... But that didn't stop him from trying to BE Superman. In fact this story is very much like some early concepts Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster had when trying to design a more heroic Superman when compared to the villain they had created in the "Reign of the Superman" story. A non powered, yet still very strong hero who's focus is helping those who can't help themselves.

The difference with the current no powers thing is that it's still set in a comic book universe PROPER full of dangerous villains and you suddenly have NO Superman to defend Metropolis from Metallo, Parasite, Toyman, or anyone like that.

I'd be into this more as a stand alone universe where it had a more grounded Superman that just happened to be slightly stronger than the average person and while bullets fired from small arms still HURT him as they seem to here, they weren't deadly to him. Honestly that entire scenario would make for an interesting story in and of itself, a more grounded take on the DCU, not DEVOID of powers, but the ones that are there being lessened.

Yeah that's a cool concept. In that universe i can see Batman having superpowers instead of superman.

The one thing that I love about this whole arc is the way that the people protect superman as much as superman protects the people. They know that he's too weak to be the protector of the whole city, so they section off a part of Metropolis that they can protect in his name. And I really think that's cool.

Wait , Wrath ? As in Child of Trigon ? Well it gives at least a reason for Superman's getting brutishly angry.

Still don't like the de-powering angle though. Would've worked well with Elseworlds but in the main universe, it is just a gimmick.

No, and that's bad logic you're using. It's like saying you're not a bad person cus you don't rape people. One doesn't make the other bad things go away. I'm not here to comment about Truth Superman levels, just pointing out the flaw in that argument.

This has gotten weird and it bums me out. What could have been a good topical story arc about police brutality became... well I don't know but it became something else. IDK, last issue also dropped that angle but saved itself with that hear to heart talk he had so maybe Pak can pull something out to impress me. I'm hoping for the best, so don't let me down

@smart_dork_dude: No not really. We can cite over powered characters all day but how many have the main stream notice of longevity of Superman. In today's comics it's hard to see the struggle most people buy comics to see in a normal superman. This depowered one shows us more of his journey. It's easy to say don't kill, or injury when you're the most powerful thing on earth. But he's learning he has to do it different when he's no longer invulnerable.

And no. Just because there are other overpowered and more overpowered characters doesn't mean that the point is mute for Superman. And its not like we still read about Stardust here today, he wasn't succesful enough, I guess.
