Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has a new addition to its cast. Pom Klementieff has nabbed a new key role for the 2017 film, which begins shooting in early 2016. According to THR, the actress' role has not been revealed yet, but Marvel called for a wide search for this part, which was looking for an Asian actress.
Who could she be playing? Looking through the roster from the comics, one of the few characters that sticks out, is Moondragon. She's actually the daughter of Drax, and while the cinematic version of Drax is quite a bit different than the original comic book counterpart, Moondragon would be a really cool fit for the team, considering she's telepathic and has a connection to one of the Infinity Gems. However, just like in the cinematic universe, Drax mentions in the first GotG film that his family was killed, but there's always ways around bringing characters back, right?
OR... Could she be Mantis, the universe travelling woman of Vietnamese descent who has a connection to the Avengers, Silver Surfer, and to Thanos? She's also a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy who became the counselor and therapist for her teammates.
Klementieff is known for her role in the 2013 Spike Lee remake, Oldboy.
James Gunn will be directing and writing the sequel and is rejoined by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, all reprising their roles.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
