Paul Giamatti in Talks to Play Rhino in 'Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel

Why Giamatti ? I thought it was a joke at first

I don't have anything against Giamatti, but he doesn't seem fit for the role. Then again, I didn't think Anne Hathaway would be a good Catwoman, but she proved me wrong. This next Spider-Man movie is either going to be really good, really, REALLY bad. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

@PunyParker: oh ya definitely plus the movie was only made so sony can keep the rights. But I still liked it better than originals. Its on par with Spider-man 2 for me and better than Emo Peter 3

@Ninjablade09: As a Spider-geek i liked it a lot!....as a movie prespective, the script has flaws and holes......admit it....as we saw,too many scenes were cut,unneceserally....

TOO many characters for one movie....this is not avengers,they are not already developed from other movies....

Oh! and i believe actors are chosen by sony and not Webb.....Fox played in Django and it was a Sony Pic. movie....

The first movie was a mediocre base for the sequel.....i can live with that......BUT....IF the second movie isnt a piece of top class art,a 10/10....i will get out and say that the trilogy is crap.....dont care how good or bad the 3d will be...

Sit and watch Spider-Man and then TASM and you will see that you will like the original better.....i was a fan of TASM and i still like Garfield more that Tobey....but its the truth...

Lol after I bought the TASM on my PSV I watched both at the same time. Hard to follow but I've seen the original so many times it didn't matter. Still love the original but found my self liking TASM better. Even better than Avengers but everyone has their own opinion.

They're obviously going for Ultimate R.H.I.N.O (Which was just a puny nerdy guy in a giant Rhino mech), in which case this is some pretty badass casting.

Great actor no doubt, but theres physically no way he could play Rhino, at least the Rhino we all know. Rhino's jacked to the max and by far the strongest in Spiderman's rouges gallery, not to mention being over 6ft tall. Unless its for a voice over role, you're just not what we're looking for this role, thank you....the exit is to the left of the stage....you can leave your headshot at the front desk......please Mr. Giamatti....leave before i have to call security....im aware you were in Sideways but you were also in The Lady In the Water so.... ......yeh........

Maybe the movie will open up with him fighting rhino. Marc Webb said TASM2 will show that Peter is just about at his prime.

This can only be considered evidence that the film makers hate comic book fans.

Rhino was a lame villain. He's basically just the Juggernaut in a Rhino costume. LOL he sucks.

BTW whoever they cast better look the part & have the physique. Hell I'd take Brock Lesnar for Rhino. At least he looks the part. They're both, big, ugly, stupid, & suck at fighting. LOL

I am hoping he will only have a cameo like how Scarecrow did in The Dark Knight!

Maybe Paul Giamatti will be in a kind of crappy Rhino costume as jokey opening action scene.

Why can't they leave it at 1 bad guy per movie, with maybe an smaller extra supporting badie. Hate to use Batman but Nolan did a great job with this, Raj was only in the beginning then you had Scarecrow, Joker was the main and Dent played an auxiliary role, and in Rises you had Bane with Catwoman being a supporting character. For Marvel Iron Man is the same, they had one main antagonist in each.

The only thing I could see as a benefit of having 2 is for back story if they plan to do a Sinister Six. People who saw the original run would have a good idea who Doc Oct is and Sandman. So the only others would be Mysterio and Chamelion, or using Hobgoblin and expect viewers to relate it to Green Goblin.

i like Paul Giamatti, and i like the rhino... but i also like cake and beef jerky... it does not mean they fit together

Friend of mine put it very well:

"I like Giamatti. I like Rhino. I don't like this idea".

I don't like Rhino as a movie villain period. Ultimate or classic, its a guy running around with a horn on his forehead for christ's sake. Maybe they'll do something to make him less cartoony... lets hope so.

But at the same time, if everyone agreed that Spider-man films are for kids, then you can't be mad at it.

And, because I'm a dick, I'm going to remind everyone how incredibly silly Vinnie Jones looked running through walls head first as Juggernaut in Xmen 3. Replay that vision in your heads and think about Giamatti.... You're welcome.

Giamatti is whatever... its going to be CGI fest, then can make him into whatever they want.

Who cares, he could be good, why does everyone always have to freak out at every casting? Even if he is bad, it isn't the end of the world.

Rhino? Not sure he has what it takes to be the right villain for the movie. What is it with dual villains in comic book movies these days?

Really does sound like they are trying to pull S-Six with this..but I don't know...Giamatti as Rhino seems off to me. Its great that he was really into the character, but then again Nick Cage was and is a comic book fan too so...there you go.

With all of these characters this movie can either be all clustered movie that fit way to many main characters in OR it can be amazing movie(see what I did there?) with all of the characters that we love.

Paul Giamatti is a very talented actor, but I can not see him playing Rhino. I would love to see him take on some other villain, but not Rhino. The one thing do completely agree with him on is that Rhino would be great to see on the big screen.

The guy is only 5'9" and wimpy with zero athleticism. What a poor choice.

Sorry but I don't think Rhino is fit for a live-action remake.

They need to drop another villain. Look what happened to Spider-man 3 & Ironman 2. There was too many characters. That's why I'm worried about Ironman 3. Maybe Marc Webb can handle it, doubt it though.
