Off YOUR Mind: Would Captain America (or Another Hero) Make a Good President?

We all have opinions, now is the time to share yours.

You've probably heard the news. Captain America became the President in the Ultimate Universe. There's a bunch of stuff going on which lead to him becoming the choice for the job. This isn't the first time the idea has been tossed about. CAPTAIN AMERICA #250 (from 1980) immediately comes to mind. We've often thought what it'd be like to have Cap or Superman (remember the Kryptonian birthing matrix origin that made it so he technically was born on the rocket when it landed in Smallville?) as President. Now the Ultimate Universe will see the Super Soldier as the President.

No Caption Provided

This week's question is, would Captain America, or another superhero, make a good President? If you don't think Cap would be the best choice, who do think would be? Could someone like Cap give up being a superhero in order to perform the Presidential duties? Would they have to hang up their spandex in order to wear suits and sit around the White House?

Let us know in the comments below.

Tony Guerrero is the Editor-in-Chief of Comic Vine. You can follow him on Twitter @GManFromHeck. He has no desire to be the President of the United States. He'll settle for being President of Comic Vine.

Ohh' this is happening in the Ultimate Universe ?? bleh , wack ' The Ultimate universe the core grounds of plagiarizing all the good stuff past writers have evolved in characters but none of the credit to then extort into Hollywood marvel . .. oh well ,, i'm really surprised they didnt chose the blackpanther , as in Obama . thats what marvel was about current events & warping comical science with it & amazing artwork that speaks before u even read the bubbles ... but then again the blackpanther wasn't even in the Avengers movie.. so apparently Hollywood marvel is controlled & directed for different political uses toward the youth .

Peace :)

I think that the only one who could handle the duties of running a country while still fighting crime efficiently would be Superman. And we all remember how that turned out.

How about Cyclops? Scott Summers would certainly work his ass off to keep the nation safe by having the best military one could have. And if he had the power himself, like the phoenix force, he'd make the whole world better and not just the US.

Captain America is supposed to embody America right? Sounds like he'd be a good pick. He's such an even minded guy.

Superman would be the obvious pick but I'd go with Wonder Woman for the DC nominee.

She's loving, strong, smart, and passionate. She's diplomatic and already has plenty of experience as an ambassador. She's got the warrior's heart so she'd be a good tactical leader. She's loving and would be a good moral and social leader. Economically, she's never really held a job so...idk she's intelligent I'm sure she could figure it out.

Unfortunately there's the issue of her birth. Being that she was not only born in Themyscira but she was made out of clay. Though much like the Republican fables surrounding Obama's birth certificate, this debate is totally fictional. So i guess it doesn't really matter that she's not an actual American.

@blackair9: yeah i agree that Cap wouldn't be the best choice. I think the power would corrupt. It would be the American way or the high way. He would be quick to target immigrants that aren't US citizens. I believe Beast would be idle since he is more well rounded and has looked at life through different perspectives.

Maybe Bruce Wayne instead? Honestly, I think that Cap is the best choice for the job, but he's still not a very good one. He'll be off fighting all the time. He won't be a leader of the country. More like a general.

Nah., Cap would make a bad president as he demostrated in AvX making exactly the same mistakes iron man and Col hill made to start the civil war. Now Mr. terrific (Michael Holt), pepper potts, susan storm, Red Robin (discounting age) and Beast would make great presidents.

I'd personally think the Shield would make a great president, because he represents all the things that made america strong during the great depression.

At first I was like "Oh No, this is going to end badly"

But seeing him jump into planes flying around the world kicking people in the teeth and jumping in the plane again was a riot

Also like how he would appoint Avengers to positions in the White House, Loved Hawkeye's position lol

Ultimate Cap 4 more years Haha!

@Chaos Burn: Are you kidding?! Batman is insanely paranoid. there would be cameras everywhere, people would be tracked and targeted. With Batman as President it would be a V for Vendetta style Police state. Cap is probably one of the best choices. He understands the struggle between Freedom and Security.

In DC, Oliver Queen would be a good choice, his whole angle is to "look out for the little guy".

I think a lot of superheroes and even villains would get bored and grow tired of being president, they dream of more than being constrained by so much.

I think that Batman would make an exceptional Commander and Chief, we would have top-notch Special Forces and Infantry Units along with cutting edge technology, with those two things I serious doubt any countries would try to challenge us and if so Batman would pay them a personal visit.

In a real world context, I don't see how Cap wouldn't get elected President. Think of how George Washington was responded to for being an undeniable hero to the American people at the time. Think if Colin Powel had run for President in 1996 or 2000, how well received he would have been (not trying to endorse, just saying how popular he was). Of course, this isn't taking into account if heroes were already involved in politics, like in Marvel Civil War.

Vote Yes for Cap. If The US gets in a fight about human rights and too many people get hurt, he can just give up. Unless they are German of course. See Marvel's Civil War.

I won't deny the awesomeness of Cap as president. The closest thing we've had in the real world was probably Theodore Roosevelt. Is it a good idea? Probably not. But it does make for some very interesting story-telling opportunities.

I think Cap could make a good president, sure, and I like the Ultimates universe rendition that is currently handling this idea. Steve Rogers is the very epitome of everything that is good about the United States so he'd be the perfect candidate for the presidency. Steve 4 Prez!

I said this when I commented on the preview but I don't think Steve should be a politician at all. He can't avoid the checks and balances of the system forever and he's such a stickler for the rules that he'd be a fool not to be at the White House at least sometimes. Anyway he's too honest to work well with the slime balls in D.C. that decide America's fate on the a daily basis. I'm hoping that during this arc he'll abandon the flag as his symbol when he learns about the darkness in the U.S. government. He might as well just become the U.S. Agent since all he'll be is a government watchdog.

Personally I think Moon Knight could be a kick ass president. He has training in tactics and strategy, not afraid to bend the rules, and can adapt the way he interacts with politicians and the American public. He can also seek counsel from himself for really big decisions and can never be (completely) mind controlled. Obviously he wouldn't wear his costume but Marc Spector has my vote.

As far as President-Superheroes? I reckon the only guy who realistically could for it to be logical would be Tony Stark. Former Defence Secretary/SHIELD head, with a business mind and a face that could represent America. Stark2012, perhaps?

Simply being patriotic doesn't mean he would make a good president. In fact, some could argue that being based in nativist sentiment the way he was would make Captain America a bad choice to be President. Especially in an age where the office of the President necessitates diplomatic finesse.

Capt would be a good leader, he knows what a battle is and not sitting in chair and watching it. Would never go into war that would degrade the military or for political gain or bowing to the rich guy. Yes, there were heros who became president JFK serve in WWII, Ike, and George Washington. Would tell Generals and Admirals to shut up, they will not advise him, he will advise them.

The beauty of having someone like Cap as President is that you can count on them abiding by the rules set in place by the US Constitution. Legally, almost every president since Woodrow Wilson committed impeachable offenses of varying degrees.

I really don't think the world governments would appreciate the American Government figure head coming into their country to do battle. Seems like a conflict of interests with a number of sticky political situations.
