The successful LOST producer will not be adapting the Stephen King novel afterall
With the news that Marvel and Stephen King would be releasing a new Dark Tower series in 2010, it would have been neat to see the film adaptation of the novel be worked on at around the same time. It would have been even cooler if J.J. Abrams (LOST) got behind the project to produce it, which up until today, had been the rumor. In a recent interview with MTV, Abrams squashed the rumor that he Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' adaptation was a project he would be working on.
The fact that Abrams has no interest in the project is not new news, either. In an October interview with the USAToday, Abrams cited that one reason why he would not dream of adapting 'Dark Tower' is because he is such a massive fan of the novel, he is afraid he would not do the book justice."It's such an important piece of writing. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now."
There it is, from the mouth of the man himself. It seems that there is no 'Dark Tower' in Abrams' foreseeable future. Would you like to have seen Abrams turn this into a film? Is there anyone else you think could do the book justice, or do you feel that the novel should be left as is?
"You'll be hard-pressed to find a huger fan of 'The Dark Tower' than me, but that's probably the reason that I shouldn't be the one to adapt it," he revealed. "After working six years on 'Lost,' the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I'm such a massive Stephen King fan that I'm terrified of screwing it up. I'd do anything to see those movies written by someone else. My guess is they will get made because they're so incredible. But not by me."
