New 'Justice League Action' Animated Series Announced for Cartoon Network

Kevin Conroy returns as Batman. Find out who else is returning!

We're finally getting a new Justice League animated series. It'll air on Cartoon Network. A release date, other than "soon," hasn't been revealed yet. Looks like they'll be going with the eleven-minute format.

Here's the press release and all the information currently available for Justice League Action.

No Caption Provided

The world’s greatest Super Heroes return to television in Justice League Action, an all-new quarter-hour animated series from Warner Bros. Animation coming soon to Cartoon Network.

Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Whether defending the Earth, facing invaders from space, or battling the bizarre forces of magic, the always-rotating team of Justice League heroes, are up to any challenge.

The new series is the first DC Comics-based franchise to launch on Cartoon Network since the highly-successful Teen Titan Go!, which in 2015 ranked as a Top 5 animated series among Kids 2-11, 6-11 and all key Boys. Teen Titans Go! also ranks as Cartoon Network’s #1 property for cross-platform video plays and on VOD.

Justice League Action marks the return of Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series), beloved by fans worldwide as one of the most iconic voices of Batman, to a weekly-animated television series. The series will also deliver an all-star lineup of regular and guest cast voices, including Mark Hamill as Joker, James Woods as Lex Luthor, Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold and many more portraying your favorite DC Comics Super Heroes and Super-Villains. Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!) serves as executive producer with Butch Lukic (Justice League, Batman Beyond), Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series) and Jim Krieg (Green Lantern: The Animated Series) serving as producers.

What do you think?

Oooh, Alan Burnett is back? The producers involved seem cool. I'm fine with a lighthearted tone as long as it's smartly written and doesn't insult kids' intelligence.

Seems like another show for the ADD generation. (The low running time)

Other than that not a big fan of the art and from the sounds of it we're only going to see Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman (as the focus). So that's disappointing as well. I do like that Kevin Conroy is doing Batman's voice though. Other than that I'd have to actually see something from it to get a real feel.

The fact that one of the TTG producers is working on this has me concerned but I'll reserve judgement until it airs.

Hoping its good. I'd be nice to a DC cartoon to watch each week. I hate that I missed out on GL.

I am glad it is for younger audiences. DC needs to captivate potential readers from a young age and their movies aren't young audience material neither are their TV series.

Well, this clearly isn't for me, but I'm glad the kids are getting a JL show :) Plus we're getting the movies which totally aren't appropriate for younger viewers.

While I doubt it will compare to the DCAU, I'm hoping it's a decent series of shorts, much like the Fleischer Superman series of the 40's.

@feartheliving: There is a line about a rotating line up, so here's hoping guys like GL and Flash (among many others get a bit of the spotlight)

I need to see the animation in motion before I make a final call. I will in advance though, Why do they keep giving Superman terrible belt designs? It should be a yellow buckle with a red belt, not the other way around. Or just make whole belt Yellow like Injustice.

Idk is the cartoon market really that afraid of having more adult (mature?) art styles? Strange....

If it's meant for kids I won't hold it against them. Nothing bugs me more then a bunch of salty adults hating on a show clearly aimed for children aged 5+

I hope the show is all ages, as in kids can watch it, but it's not insultingly stupid so adults can watch it too, and so kids can get a little something that doesn't talk down to them

Animation looks a bit weird and simplistic, the length seems way too short and the mention of Teen Titans Go beside this announcement gives me bad feelings. But the voice cast seems neat and at least there's a DC cartoon to show these characters to kids again. They've been losing out to Marvel in that area when the tables are usually inverted. Maybe I'll try it but I won't be surprised if it's not good.

I was but I'm always hoping we'll see shows like that again sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. Not to say these shows are bad, they have their demographic they just happen to not be me. : \

I enjoy TTGo for what it is.

But this JLA, meh.
For a comic JL sitcom, JLI seems like a more natural fit.

I dont know how to respond to this. Overall Id say it sounds great, but there are a few areas of concern. The first being who they have playing Booster Gold. It was awesome seeing that Booster would be in this, but I cant see Bader being charming and suave like Booster should be. Secondly is the art and design for it as it seems to heavily influenced by the Snyderverse with the costumes and the art looks very simple. The third and final issue is that it could end up being too close to Teen Titans Go in awfulness. Other than that Im excited as it could be a fun and awesome series.

Don't know how to feel about this...Like the voice cast, hate the animation style, uncertain about the run time because this honestly means the target audience is kids (which just makes me sad), is clearly following in the footsteps of TTG which actually is a funny show, just not what I would've hoped for...I'll just wait and see.

11 minute run times similar to Steven Universe could work. Doubtful the writing and vision will be there to replicat what makes that show great. But hopefull either way. The era of great 30 minut action adventure series is over, time to just watch them on Netflix.

Sure why not. Maybe it'll be cool. Hopefully. As long as they actually give it a shot and not suddenly cancel it like 3 other DC shows that were on Cartoon Network *COUGH COUGH* (looks over at the short-lived Young Justice, Beware the Batman, and Green Lantern animated series).

Speaking of Alan Burnett, where's Bruce Timm? Wouldn't mind seeing a new animated series based on a DC superhero in his art style.

Well to me, it's not so much that they're geared towards kids, it's what that seems to mean nowadays. It's like they diminish the art quality, add a bunch of silly humor, and overall just water down the product, all for the sake of "targeting kids". BTAS, Batman Beyond, JL/U, Spider-Man, X-Men, and Teen Titans all came out when I was a kid, and I don't think anyone would argue that they weren't great shows (not to mention successful). In fact, those shows are what got me into comics. I'm not saying they have to be as serious as YJ, but kids are capable of recognizing and appreciating a great show too. Hopefully this show will be better than it looks. I'm not a fan of the animation, but more often than not, DC puts out good products so I'll be optimistic.

I am not upset with the artwork like other people are. Spectacular Spiderman proved that interesting characters can still be developed with simple art.

The 15 minute run time for each episode makes me suspicious though. That doesn't leave much time to develop compelling plots.

Not like this, DC. Not like this.

Well...I guess that these producers have forgotten the age group for kids...Kids are people between the ages of 0-18 and these people used to watch cartoons a decade or 2 ago....But now there isn't any show which they all can watch...I will give it a try tho....

And all those saying the movies are not appropriate for kids, you are wrong....Just because the story would be a bit darker doesn't mean kids can't watch them...The only inappropriate movie from them is Suicide Squad and a potential Batman film with Joker as a villain(That shit is just scary for kids) and even those can be watched by most kids....The threshold for kids is not what it used to be and they can watch violent films....Just not films like Saw or anything....

And the main focus would not be on these three, as one of the voice actors mentioned is of Booster Gold BEFORE the voice actors of Superman and Wonder Woman....

People say that it's sad that young adults/adults are complaining about a kids show being a kids show.

That's not the point. It's what kids shows are nowadays, for the most part. Most aren't charming, or challenging, for kids. They just try to be colorful, have action, be funny (in a poor way), and sell toys. Look at the recent Green Lantern tv show. It was clearly directed towards children, but could be watch by all ages. Same with Spectacular Spider-Man, JLU, BTAS, STAS, etc.

What about the teenagers between the ages of 12-17? If they can't give them narrative driven, 20-30min stories, why not put them digital networks, like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime? Or put it on Adult Swim/Toonami?

It's just sad that, in a year where we're getting Samurai Jack back, we're getting this kind of JL show.
