New Gods Cast in Smallville

Who's playing Desaad and Glorious Godfrey?

I really doubt Desaad's going to look like this in the show.
I really doubt Desaad's going to look like this in the show.

You might recall that Darkseid’s going to be the “big bad” of this season of SMALLVILLE. Following that, it’s looking like his Apokolips-borne minions will be joining him. According to Splash Page, Steve Byers and Michael Daingerfield will be playing Desaad and Gordon Godfrey respectively. They’re going to show up in the third episode of the season, which will also see Laura Vandervoort’s return as Supergirl. Both of these actors have a host of TV credits under their belts, with appearances on CSI: MIAMI, MUTANT X, STARGATE SG-1, THE DEAD ZONE and SUPERNATURAL.

This final season of SMALLVILLE is starting to remind a bit of the final season of the SUPERMAN cartoon from the 90s, which similarly pitted Supes against Darkseid and all the evil New Gods. However, seeing as how Glorious Godfrey’s going to be using his more human-sounding “Gordon” alias from LEGENDS, I wonder if they’re going to be a taking an approach similar to what Grant Morrison did in the MISTER MIRACLE mini-series for SEVEN SOLDIERS. That is, all the New Gods will show up human incarnations, which would certainly fit SMALLVILLE’s more down-to-Earth M.O. == TEASER ==

I feel like pointing out that the New Gods have sort-of, kinda-of already had their own movie. John Byrne, of all people, has advocated that the director of the live-action MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE worked over the HE-MAN mythology to better resemble Jack Kirby’s Fourth World. Basically, if you swap Orion for He-Man, Skeletor for Darkseid, the Sorceress for Highfather, Evil-Lynn for Desaad, Gwildor for Metron, Beast Man for Kalibak, and so on… the parallels are hard to miss. Hell, they even used Boom Tubes to travel across universes! Come to think about it, seeing as how they haven’t cast Darkseid for this show yet, it’d be awesome if they cast Frank Langella to properly portray the nasty man. Need convincing? Watch this
