New Challengers Debut in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

A round-up of videos for Spidey, X-23 and Albert Wesker...

It's also kind of amusing that Spidey's going to be able to web up Dormammu.

Marvel and Capcom have just been belting out confirmation videos for MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3 fighters, haven’t they? The latest “named names” are Spider-Man, X-23 and RESIDENT EVIL’s sunglasses-at-night dirtbag, Albert Wesker. We’ve collected the sizzles reels of each combatant below.  I have to say, I’ve been surprised by each-and-every announcement for this game. I really haven’t been able to predict most of them because Capcom’s definitely been thinking outside the box when it comes to both companies’ rosters.

A little video and commentary... == TEASER ==

Spidey’s inclusion relieves fears some fans about the wall-crawler possibly not showing up in this fighter because his video game rights were tied up with another company.  Although, I suppose it should’ve been assured all along given the inclusion of those Spider-Man blimps that dotted the background of that one level. As somebody who played MARVEL SUPER HEROES pretty much on the day it debuted in arcades, I’m glad to see Capcom’s finally updated the guy’s moveset. His “Maximum Spider” super always felt like it was just assembled from previous animations. But now, they’ve added an element of Spidey webbing his enemy into a cocoon, which makes it as much of a show as Iron Man’s “proton cannon” BFG and Hulk “grab an asteroid” super.

X-23’s probably the newest Marvel character in the game so far. I’ve never warmed up to Wolverine’s Supergirl - - I would’ve preferred other heroines like Elektra or Ms. Marvel or even Echo as Ronin - - but I think this is an official mark that she’s part of the cannon. I’ll be curious to see how much of her moveset riffs on Wolvie’s because the similarities don’t seem that obvious here.

And Albert Wesker? I’ve never gotten into RESIDENT EVIL, but his inclusion here’s timely given how he and his sunglasses have been appearing all over that new AFTERLIFE movie’s ad campaign. I do think it’s kind of amusing that Capcom’s elected to include so many plain clothes to fight all these colorfuly-dressed super heroes. This just shows that they NEED to include Captain Commando and Strider.
