New Captain America Comic Reveals Shocking Truth About His History [SPOILERS]

With the release of Steve Rogers: Captain America #1, everything you know about Steve Rogers changes forever.

Steve Rogers is back as Captain America in a brand new comic series from writer Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz. Issue #1 of Steve Rogers: Captain America hit stores today, and the comic led readers down the path of America's hero tracking down Baron Zemo. However, the final pages revealed a startling revelation: Steve Rogers is a member of Hydra.

In a series of flashbacks, Sarah Rogers, the mother of Captain America, is being abused by her husband. A woman named Elisa Sinclair shows up and takes him out. Elisa befriends Sarah and provides her the safety she and a young Steve Rogers deserve.

Before they part ways, Elisa hands Sarah a flyer for a local meeting she should attend. It turns out it's a meeting for Hydra.

Back in the present, Captain America, along with his new teammates, are fighting Baron Zemo and the New Masters of Evil. Captain America is seemingly trying to save Doctor Selvig, who Zemo has kidnapped. Rogers jumps aboard Zemo's craft. Captain America's new sidekick Jack also jumps aboard, and after Zemo is taken out, Cap does the unthinkable: he throws Jack from the craft, leading to one of the most shocking pages in recent Captain America history.

It turns out that Captain America is a member of Hydra, the terrorist organization that he's spent decades fighting. Could he have been playing double-agent all along? While many fans may find this hard to swallow, writer Nick Spencer assured readers that there is no catch to what we saw.

"Issue 2 will lay a lot of our cards on the table in terms of what the new status quo is, but the one thing we can say unequivocally is: This is not a clone, not an imposter, not mind control, not someone else acting through Steve" explained Spencer in an interview with Newsarama. "This really is Steve Rogers, Captain America himself."

There is speculation that, as crazy as it might sound, Captain America is playing a triple-agent in this upcoming storyline, but one thing is for sure, this changes how readers will look at Captain America in this upcoming arc.

Steve Rogers: Captain America #1 is available in stores and digitally now.

I'm going to go with what certain people are thinking and what I've been kind of theorizing which is that either the red skull or Kobik the sentient cosmic cube somehow rewrote a part of Steves history when he regained his super soldier serum enhanced abilities and relclaimed his youth during standoff to where he grew up and was raised as a hydra agent before becoming taking part in the super soldier program that turned him into captain america.

Or maybe he thinks he's a hydra agent it could be possible nick and tom who is the writer nick is and tom is the editor it could be possibly they're just saying that there isn't mind control or the cosmic cube at play being responsible for this....

Like everyone remember when Dan slott said Peter Parker isn't coming back ever and he did at least a year and a half later but he still come back so I don't know I'm hoping this story wraps up around October though I don't want it to be long and drawn out like superior spider man.

The angry reaction to this is the funniest thing I've read since starting to read comics.

Spoiler alert Cap won't ACTUALLY end up being a Hydra Agent, a Nazi, or evil. It's just a hook for a story arc or two. How can anyone believe they are really turning Cap into a villain?

Agreed, this thread is pretty funny. It's also the exact reaction I'm sure Spencer was going for. Personally I think it will be cleared up and not at all what people are whining and crying about here. I tend to give books more than one issue, and especially one last page panel, to see where the story is actually going. In part of fairness, if in fact going forward he is actually some part of Hydra, I'll be pretty pissed as well, but again, I don't believe it for a second. I think Spencer likes to see how many panties he can get in a wad from time to time.

The marvel writers love to be hated. After all it doesn't really cost them anything or put them in any danger, fanboys are the trapped creature that they can take delight in torturing, the fly they can pull wings off of or the kitten they can toss into the river and laugh as it drowns. Really great set of people in that company.

Dear MARVEL, I don't know how to word this but... I'm breaking up with you. It's not me, it's you. It's just ALL your NEW and DIFFERENT attitudes are NOW coming between us. We had a good thing going and you ruined it.

To DC: hey girl, I haven't seen you around in a while. Let's hang out. We can take it slow. I know you hurt me about 52 times in the past but I'm willing to give our relationship a rebirth of sorts.

OK I read the issue. It doesn't seem like Cap is actually apart of Hydra. I mean of course he say's "Hail Hydra" and the background story is convincing but there is plenty of room in the story arc for an explanation of why he is doing this. And also there is no proof that Jack Flag is dead ( just thrown out of a plane) and Steve did warn him not to come and help which could further bolsters the theory of him possibly being a double or triple agent since he might want to go about this alone.

And even though marvel will deny it I think another possibility is that the red skull since he still has Xavier's brain as well as his telepathic powers could very well be implanting false memories in Steves mind to manipulate and control him.

Let me see if I got this straight... we're taking the essence of america and saying he is a Hydra agent. This is supposed to appeal to Captain America fans? Sorry... not interested in this. I'll start getting it once this mess is fixed. What is it with people thinking the best way to appeal to fans is to make them evil?
