"Hey look, stuff about one of Peter Parker many ex-girlfriends!"

Ok, whatever Marvel.

This is equivalent to saying Lois Lane is one of Superman's many girlfriends. She not a random girl, she's an icon.

Superman was with Lois Lane for most of his history in some way or another, he is married with her and with a child while Peter was with Silk,Black Cat or flirting with captain Marvel and a dozen other girls.

Also Lois is relevant to DC by herself, she represent reporters and is always facing dangers to report events in DC universe, she could have her own series about her weekly adventures, without Spiderman Jane is just some random hot ginger girl, Marvel can't even make her hold a job for long.

Don't get me wrong though,I like Jane but she is hardly relevant today because of Marvel decisions, she is even with less spotlight than Gwen Stacy now.

The Gwenpool one is pretty hot :V Is Gwen's outfit meant to be like shiny latex? :3

I like how some of them seem like ideas the artistes have had up their sleeves for a while with the wolverine in a mini dress.

I like how the Hulk variant says she'll come rip up all your X-Men if you don't buy. Like damn Marvel, we get it. You hate the X-Men.

That's a playful reference to an old She-Hulk comic cover. It's been done years ago.

ignoring the MJ-Venom one obviously, each of those is ugly. The face especially. Thats not art. Thats rough draft garbage. I would not download those for free, let alone pay for them. & as variants? Not worth it.

Wasn't one of the things that lead to the bankruptcy of Marvel and the overall burst of comics in the 90s the proliferation of variant covers, leading to the over speculation by"investors" until the bubble burst?

How was that different than what Marvel and DC are doing now?

Back then Marvel wasn't owned by entertainment god Disney. They now have a safety net. Marvel itself can survive without the comics division as they have more than enough material to fuel the next 50 years of movies, tv series and cartoons.

"Hey guys! Remember that character we though no one cared about so we got rid of her and Peter's relationship and actually ended up pissing off a lot of our fans? Well, we could put them back together, but instead of that, why don't we just slap her face across all our covers for a month? Then no one will be mad about One More Day anymore!"

All that said, I did chuckle at the Punisher cover.

Also. "...I'm going to come to your house and rip up all your X-Men!" I thought Marvel was already doing that?

This are my own personal variants

SO! Wouldn't you be pissed off if your favorite superhero made a deal with the devil (completely out of character btw), got a demonic divorce from the love of his life and aborted his future daughter. Then went on to define the next ten years of Spider Man as nothing more than a Peter Pan screw up with little to no development, progression or any long term investment in the character.

Oh I did. Stopped reading Spider Man after OMD. Came back for Renew Your Vows. Now the past couple of years have reopened the insult thanks to Marvel themselves and comics liek Daredevil and Spider Man Deadpool referencing the event on occasion. Oh and there's this:

@ursaber: You do know that his marriage with Mj was a sham and that his wedding with her was only put together simply because Stan lee announced that they were getting married (in his news strip) and people misconstrued into thinking that it meant the comic. Hell the writers and most of the readers where upset when they were married. It was sudden and that was why most of the time they were married the writers wrote her away somehow. So when you say that the next ten year after they finally split were useless in character development I have to say that the time they were "happy" and married was relatively short in the span of his time with Mj

Like everything Marvel does it was a publicity stunt. Some writers and editors themselves didn't like it but evidence to the contrary on the fan reaction, otherwise they would've undone the marriage sooner and without trouble. The marriage itself was sabotaged after a short while but all their attempts to undo the marriage were met with fan backlash. It didn't stop it however from becoming an element loved by fans.

20 years is not a relatively short amount of time. After all those 20 years, after suffering through dangers and stalkers, Venom, Carnage, economic trouble, marital disputes, clone sagas, miscarriages, abductions, plane crashes and even separations, they survived all of that entering the 2000's with JMS' brilliant run so after that there was no logical or plausible way for them to end their relationship after they literally went through the fires of hell to keep it.

Those two decades they spent together they grew as characters and became better than they were before and all of that was swept away leaving behind a giant deus ex machina to vaguely explain what transpired.

Did MJ get a sudden boost in popularity I don't know about?

They did the same thing with Gwen a few years back because of the movies. Marvel just wants to cash grab and will do anything. Granted MJ is a popular iconic character but she's been thoroughly disrespected alongside Spider Man since 2007's OMD.

This reminds me a lot of the 90's when Marvel was throwing a plethora of variant covers and assisted in their bankruptcy in the mid 90's. Sadly nowadays Marvel is safe in the bosom of Disney. They can screw up all they want but they're safe.

I wonder however if the comics division under performs by a large margin would Disney step in and clean house or shutdown everything altogether. They could shutdown everything if they wanted. They would still have enough material for the next fifty years.

Isn't DC the leading power in the comics now with their hugely successful Rebirth?

I was only talking about the Marvel Comics Group. Marvel Entertainment as a whole is still a juggernaut thanks to Disney and the Marvel Studios movies.

@ursaber: Only for a month or two, after the initial boost (which comes with any big change) Marvel went back to leading

Yeah but whenever a movie hits, the sales of comics relating to that film get a big spike, and with all the films being pumped out, Marvel has a nonstop supply of good press

Plus they have Star Wars which practically prints money

@captainmarvel4ever:

Retailers actually have nothing bad to say about Marvel. Every store has Batman in their number one spots and mostly everything DC with only a few Marvel titles in their top ten. Their constant events have taken a toll on their readership plus a lot of good writers are leaving such as Jeff Lemire, the most recent outing.

Did Doctor Strange get a boost in comics when the movie came out cause I don't recall.

Star Wars is a money maker in all its forms. Even the Star Wars comics sell better than all Marvel comic books.

Yeah, he's gonna finish his last runs on Moon Knight and Extraordinary X-Men I think it was and is gonna focus on his own book Royal City. Marvel loses yet another great writer.

Also, quick question, how is it you say that Marvel dominates the comic book market cause all I hear about is how DC is beating them to a pulp in sales, units I think it was.

They publish a lot of comics. Too much actually more than any other publisher and they've been turning to overshipping. In fact the only Marvel titles that made it into the top 10 in February were Darth Maul and Star Wars.

It really is a shame that Marvel now has to resort to cheap gimmicks to sell its comics. If they could simply go back to great story telling they would sell all they wanted without the gimmicks.
