Marvel's Iron Fist Cast For Netflix Series, Report Says

A Game of Thrones actor may becoming a martial arts master for the next streaming series from Marvel.

Since Netflix has been producing Marvel series, fans have seen some of their favorite, ground-level heroes come to life: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. However, many have been wondering "Where's Iron Fist?" It's long been known that the character will get his own series, but no news on who will play the role, until now. It has been suggested that Games of Thrones actor Finn Jones may be playing the role.

No Caption Provided

Jones, who plays Ser Loras Tyrell on GoT, will take on the role of Danny Rand as the martial arts master in the fourth Marvel/Netflix collaboration, according to a report by EW. Neither Marvel nor Netflix have confirmed the casting news at this time. In addition to appearing in his own series, there's a good chance Iron Fist will also appear on the Luke Cage Netflix series as well, considering that the two characters are close friends and partners in the comics.

Iron Fist first appeared in 1974 in Marvel Premiere #15. The character is a martial arts master, which includes some supernatural elements to his fighting ability. He's also known for being a member of the team Heroes for Hire, with friend Luke Cage.

With Daredevil season two (which just got a new trailer) and Luke Cage coming out in 2016, expect Iron Fist in 2017.

Cool I guess. Can't make a call on this from what little I've seen of him on Game of Thrones.

As @rogueshadow pointed out in Official Iron Fist Thread this seems to random and out of nowhere for it not to be true. It's also pretty much exactly the same was Cox and Coulter got announced for DD and Cage.

Okay, not enough of him in GoT to tell if he can pull it off but I have faith in Marvels Netflix people.

Never seen an episode of GoT. Hope they got the right guy. I was half hoping they kept the casting a secret and had him pop up in Daredevil or Luke Cage. Oh well.

I like him in GoT for for the limited amount of screen time he gets. I like this choice, if it's true.

I'm just glad he isn't Asian in favor to just please PC people instead of trying to get the character right. That being said not to sure about if the actor can pull off Danny, he's been fine on Game of Thrones but nothing on there ever struck me as "Hey this is the dude that should play Danny Rand." Given that for the most part Marvel's casting has been on point I'm gonna give them some leeway though and give them the benefit of the doubt that this guy can pull off the character.

Anyone else confused on why Neither Marvel nor the actor have said anything about it yet? The official twitter of all the marvel shows are pretty diligent when it comes to announcements. This might not be official yet.

And considering the controversy it makes sense why they didn't announce him earlier.

Assuming this is true then this is actually pretty cool, if random, choice. He's good as Loras, with what little he does.

Awesome casting! I think he will do good. He's fine in GoT from the small role that he has.

and looks the part also!!!!

I'm glad they didn't make him Asian just for the sake of it.

Yess Luke and Danny team up!!!!!

Hmmmm, this article has lead me to feverishly search the internet for information on Finn Jones and I don't see anything pointing to a martial arts background. I can see he's been in a small handful of, what look like, terrible movies, but nothing particularly action oriented. Normally this would worry me BUT I'm sure they've got a plan. I mean it was kind of the same thing for Charlie Cox and he did plenty of great fight scenes in DD.

I don't watch GoT, what's his character like on that? Does he punch anyone? Maybe a kick or two?

I'm not sure about his acting because we didn't see enough of him. Not sure about his looks especially concerning his hair. Though I'm glad they didn't try to appease PC culture and stayed in line the character.

Eh he's fine as Loras on GoT, making Danny Rand asian american would've been an interesting dramatic choice. Screw the source material, it's license that you can do whatever you want with. And lawls at people complaing about PC culture and what not.

He plays a knight on GoT, but whether or not he has a history of being in things that require fighting is completely irrelevant to casting. That's what training is for. Charlie Cox wasn't known for anything more than getting killed in Boardwalk Empire, much less martial arts. Finn will do fine.

@inquisitor_lavellan: Because when ever "make Blade white" comes up it is an utter misrepresentation of th argument. Blade and his ethnicity are linked very clearly where as Danny Randy is essentially one of many oritenalist sterotypes devloped because of a white dominated media aparatus. Danny Rand dosen't need to be a white guy (though you can make a case given his relationship with Luke Cage).

At least it's not another white guy named Chris.

I trust Marvel's casting, even if it's worrying on paper that this guy hasn't really seemed to have an opportunity to show off his acting chops.

Also, I think casting Danny was a lose-lose situation from the start. If he's Asian there's a risk of the show possibly coming off as a stereotype, but if he's not then it's whitewashing.

You do realize that comes off as an massive stereotype that just because he is an martial artist he is NOT required to be Asian.

I'm torn because as you said it could fit well and we are lacking minority representation. But the story is also already unique as it shows a white person out of place/as the minority in a dominant culture. Which is also very unexplored in mainstream culture.

(This is assuming he's in K'un Lun not New York for most of it).

I also read an interesting article saying that specifically race changing the martial arts hero would reinforce stereotypes. Not sure what my thoughts are on that.

Now I wonder if the fight scenes will be choreographed with something from The Raid or if they might get Koichi Sakamoto (Power Rangers) to do the sequences. You need to check out his work in the movie Drive (not the one with Ryan Gosling)...A very underrated action movie.

Finn Jones will be a good choice as Rand, BTW.

Exodus: Gods and Kings and Gods of Egypt spring to mind pretty quickly, both of which feature a predominately white cast in the main roles despite being set in a place where the inhabitants were definitely not white. But, there's also Angelina Jolie playing a real life mixed woman, Emma Stone playing a mixed race woman, the whole Airbender movie and more. Whitewashing happens a lot more than people realize, but it's done so discreetly and passively that no one seems to notice. But, change a fictional white character black and everyone loses their minds lol then they start saying stuff like "how would you like it if blade was white" not understanding that, on top of my previously mentioned point, that a lot of the minority characters race plays a much larger role in their character than your average white one.

Please lets not pretend that any these examples you mentioned are somehow fine with the general public at large and didn't receive a blacklash on their own. A simple Google search on Gods of Egypt will show people were not fine with the racebending and if indications are correct, it will turn into a legit box-office bomb. The Airbender had a load of problems that went beyond white-washing, all of these are poor examples to show we are okay with characters being "whitened" and in case you didn't notice, my "Blade should be white" point was ironic clearly by the "xD" that followed.

That is because you only gave me three notable examples instead of mentioning the dozens that go by unnoticed and now you are bringing them up as a way to move up your goalposts. Besides telling me to look it up myself is seriously close to saying to "I don't have time to educate you".

Name me a white-washed movie that wasn't bashed by critics for changing minorities to white people in recent memory.

I literally said "and more" in one of my first posts. I don't have to list out every single instance for your convenience.

21 immediately springs to mind. I have this movie on DVD and I was amazed that the real life people were asian when I did some research on it. And, again, i'm not here to list them out for you. I provided examples, you chose to only review those examples instead of simply typing in "whitewashing". That's a quicker google search than "gods of egypt". So, if my example isn't good enough for you feel free to do a little research.
