Marvel Teases New GAMBIT Series in August

This is amazing, always been a Gambit fan. Marvel starting to slowly reel me back in. I've been reading Daredevil, which has been amazing, and it was sort of bringing back but one of my other personal marvel favorites was Colossus and the changes to him were starting to turn me away again, but this changes the feelings again. Now if Namor could just get a solo all would be perfect in the comic world for me.

Is it just me or does he look nearly identical to Josh Holloway in that picture?

Whoa. It's like they read my wish list. It's a) an ongoing series b) focusing on Gambit as his own individual character while he's c) stealing exotic things (sexily) and d) having new adventures that aren't just retellings of his old stories and e) he gets to do all this without wearing the inexplicable head gear. Yes please!

I'm proud of you, Marvel. Finally, it looks like they're actually interested in doing something new and cool with this character. Gambit has such a huge fanbase that it's about time he got the attention he deserves. I am reserving my judgement until I see the final product, of course, but right now I'm hysterically optimistic.

Asmus will write the teased "Gambit" ongoing series with artist Clay Mann starting in August. "This book focuses on the two most important aspects of Gambit: #1 that he's sexy, and #2 that he's the preeminent bad ass thief of the Marvel Universe," the writer said. He explained that the book will feature Gambit broken away from the X-Men, stealing wild items from across the Marvel U in locations like space, places with Kirby monsters and more. "It lets us refresh and do new things with the crime capers involving our classic bad ass." He also joked that "We got rid of the head sock" in describing Mann's art as "Sexy."

Overall, the book will build a "dangerous series of events" that pull Gambit into a "territory of mixed morality." Asmus also noted that he wanted to make the book as accessible for everyone including fans of the '90s "X-Men" cartoon and longtime readers who have been asking for Gambit to return in a major way.

Happy that Gambit's getting his own solo series, he's sure as hell deserved it, also, James Asmus and Clay Mann on the title ? LOL, count me in please.

I'm for this, even depending on how limited it ends up being, that's still more than none and with a few people who said here already that hopefully they'll use the chance to address a few plot points and character development issues (particularly but not limited to the lingering Horseman deal) tied to Gambit that have been left flapping in the wind for far to long. Plus he's Gambit, and he's awesome, that reason is good enough. On another hand I would have liked to have seen this slot dedicated to a character that hasn't had a chance and deserves one, but again, theres things about Gambit that need to be done. I do think that they wouldn't have decided to do something with Gambit if they didn't have a really good idea for a story in the first place, and that's hopeful. He's very popular, but not much more than the next X-character and really doesn't warrant a cash cow at this point in time, so I don't see it as a money making ploy, but more plausible that someone has a really great idea, at least in the eyes of Marvels creative brass and editorial side of things, and they decided they needed to produce it and share it with the readership. I'm applying the same mentality to the upcoming Ms.Marvel series for that matter. Usually the left field stuff from Marvel ends up being the best to read as far as I'm concerned.

The X-titles that focus on one character ('xept Wolvie) are destinied to get canceled. I enjoyed Daken and X-23... what can give me Gambit, an already long established character, that none of those books could give? Another story about a guy who can't get over things that happened in the 90's? C'mon!

As much as I love Gambit and I'm excited for this new series, I can't really pass my judgment on whether or not this series will be good unless I see who is writing and doing the artwork for this series.

If every single one of you pessimists that said this series is going to get cancelled would actually go purchase the book, it wouldn't. Nothing irritates me more than people dooming a book before it's even out. How about you don't actually judge a book before it comes out. /rantover

I'm honestly not sure who I'd want writing this. Probably Kyle and Yost, everyone else on the X-Books kinda sucks. (Not including Remender and David)

well.. since we got new street level with moonknight, daredevil and punisher recently, one could hope this won't be an "x-men book", but an urban thief mutant book.. like the 2005 series (which was crap.. even though issue 10 was amazin, the rest was just crap).. but well written..

the writer will be revealed on 15th? my guesses..

liu: 9. would be awesome. best gambit in ages. and as far as i've seen from liu's approach, no rogue!

kyle/yost: 8. i didnt like hellbound, but x-force was amazing.. that touch would be great in a gambit comic book.. assassin's guild was visited in "x-force sex and violence".. nice work..

bendis: 6 i enjoy his solo/street.. elektra, daredevil, moonknight, scarlett.. but i hate his runs on power teams and mega events.. heard he will be on x-treme x-men.. maybe he will be on gambit too..

carey: 3 i like carey overall, but he didn't seem to understand gambit.. it's like watching porn directed by a virgin.. something like that.. hope he stay away from this series..

claremont: bonus guess.. is there any chance of claremont writing this? well, he's the father, but i hope not.. his 90's gambit just wouldn't fit..

and yes.. he is no wolverine, it will be canceled.. =/

It's probably going to get a 10k sale figure in the first or the first two years and it's going to get cancelled.

You're right, Gambit is not an overexposed character who is in way too many x-books.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. I still have a bunch of old Gambit comics, and his first mini and ongoing were great. I think he deserves his own book. 'X-Men' is rarely good anymore, and he died in the Ultimate universe a long time ago, so bringing back this title is a good move. Cancelling it soon would be a bad move.

Man I remember when Gambit was cool.

Now it's Fantomex this and Dr. Nemesis that...
