Major Marvel Comics Character Killed in Civil War II #3 [Spoilers]

A long-existing character gets killed. The result will have a huge impact on the Marvel Universe.

Things are pretty tense in the Marvel Universe. A new Inhuman named Ulysses has surfaced with the ability to see visions of the future. This has lead several heroes to take charge and stop threats before they happen.

Tony Stark was outraged when his best friend War Machine was killed after a group of heroes decided to take on Thanos. Stark kidnapped Ulysses in order to figure out how his powers worked. Stark believes the future is meant to happen, and they shouldn't be trying to change things. When the Inhumans and other heroes arrive to free Ulysses, another vision occurs with the Hulk going on a murderous rampage. The question is: Should they protect the future or change the future? The results are disastrous.

There will be spoilers for Civil War II #3 below.

No Caption Provided

Bruce Banner has been cured of being the Hulk. He hasn't had a "Hulk incident" in almost a year. Regardless, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) and Tony Stark show up at his secret laboratory. They ask him to step outside, and Banner discovers and army of superheroes. The situation is explained, and Bruce asks if they are there to lock him up or "put him down." Stark tells him they're divided on what should be done and need more proof.

Some proof is found. Beast hacked into Banner's computers while they were talking and found evidence he was injecting himself with treated dead gamma cells. Banner is upset at the accusations, and when he starts raising his voice against him, action is taken.

No Caption Provided

Hawkeye turns himself in for killing Banner before he could turn into the Hulk. At his trial, he explains Banner asked him to do this. Banner approached him months before, and gave the tool that would kill him if he were to Hulk out. Banner knew Hawkeye was one of the few people that could kill him and eventually live with the choice.

Tony Stark is even angrier than before. He feels his friend and founding member of the Avengers was murdered. He asks Carol, "Who's next on your hit list?"

No Caption Provided

With the verdict for Hawkeye about to be delivered, the Marvel Universe watches on to see what will happen next. The next issue will be released on July 27.

"he was injecting himself with treated dead gamma cells." What does that actually mean? And if banner is all pissed at them- you know what?

F it.

To be fair, in Jason's Aaron run on Hulk, after getting cured of the Hulk by Doom, Bruce went crazy(literally) and did worse stuff. Like inject himself with radiation, turning animals into Hulk-like beings to test how to replicate it again on himself, put coffee on his eyes to stay sleep, connectin' his own brain with a car battery...

Back when Samson used the Cathexis Ray, he got a mental breakdown and exposed himself again to gamma to be a Hulk.

He has a history of getting all messed up after losing contact with Ol' green skin.

@caped_baldy: but that is directly Countered by the fact that as show in totally awesome hulk #7 the bruce is actively HAPPY to be ride of the angry green giant, so that in itself contradicts it. Plus i wasn't really referring to the fact that Bruce wants hulk back, in fact I want hulk back, but the way he's getting him back is near nonsensical.

Maybe his madness goes into different ways? god knows what Bruce hides inside that head.

I want Hulk back too, but i feel that with Marvel's current direction that would be a bad thing honestly. Let's leave him rest for a while, and away from all this Marvel's crap.

So... because Ulysses, a guy they don't know, has a power that no one can explain says he had a vision about their longtime friend/teamate/ally going on a rampage, Hawkeye killed him ???

Even if no one can actually read Ulysses mind to check if he isn't a villain ?

And the fact that Banner lost his power and no one saw his Hulk for a year doesn't make him think for a minute ?

Dear god... that plot has so much hole in it...

It is a shame, because the art is really gorgeous.

Aren't there like 20 characters who can see the future? Don't the X-men have at least 5 of them? Why is Ulysses so important?

Because he's an inhuman. And inhumans are more important than mutants, according to Marvel.

This and of course our dear friend Bendis. Let´s get mathematical:

Inhuman > Mutant

Bendis Comics > Marvel history

Inhuman + Bendis = Relevance²

This storyline is just pathetic. Its so obvious what is going to happen in the end. This whole storyline is one of Ulysses visions showing a possible future in which his presence causes this conflict. The final issue is just going to show that it was all happening inside his head and none of the characters who have "died" will be still be alive, well and causing headaches. I'd be willing to bet the issue will end with Ulysses killing himself to prevent it all from happening.

This. It'll turn into a What If.

I don't know the exact issue numbers, but it happened back in the West Coast Avengers days, circa 1987. Mockingbird (at that time, Hawkeye and she were married) was kidnapped by some Western cowboy (sorry, I can't remember HIS name) during the Lost In Space/Time serial.

Mockingbird escaped him finally, and let the cowboy die, rather than save his life at the time. Hawkeye never forgave her for that, I think, and at the time, Mockingbird, Moon Knight, and Tigra went off on their own.

It was right before they all left the WCA that Hawkeye gave his "Avengers don't kill" speech, about 30 years ago. Hope that helps! :)

@caped_baldy: I know... I'm going to stop reading Marvel. Besides the blatant political correctness bullshit, they just keep ruining his original characters, what made them popular to begin with and to be honest, this death is COMPLETELY unnecessary. Is this even a Civil War at this point? have the two sides even amassed teams yet?

So far it seems like it's just "Stuff happens" because the heroes find a guy who can see the future, and make that a much bigger deal than it should be.

I was hoping that this event would change my opinion with current marvel but so far, it's the opossite.

I agree. They could have ignored Banner's funky-dunky mind factor and left him alone, having finally achieved his greatest goal, a peaceful life. After all this guy's been trough, it was the reasonable thing to do if he wasn't supossed to be a relevant character anymore with Cho in the middle, but instead Bendis decides to pull this off. It's like they are trying to take a dump on every fan-base they have built based on those core characters.

Don't be so surprised.

The CEO of Marvel, Perlmuter, has a total control over the comics and the TV shows, but has recently been cut from the movies. So expect to see Perlmuter pushing new characters in the comics.

X-Men and FF are out because of Fox.

Inhumans are pushed even more in the comics because the movie has been more or less cancelled and they are present in the TV.

I didn't look at the list of future Marvel publications but I'm sure you will see new series with characters that Perlmuter totally control like Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.

He is a very efficient CEO and he is going to emphasize the strength and originality of the product he control.

At the end, you will have a clear difference between the Heroes from the MCU controlled by Feige and Disney, and the rest of the Marvel universe controlled by Perlmuter.

I have no hope for FF and X-Men ands not only he doesn't control them, but even worst, he had to sell they right to another company when he was trying to save Marvel from bankruptcy.

Anyway, to be continued.

Yea i already saw this a few hours ago, on top of that i saw Bendis saying he has plans for Banners corps, so i guess he will piss on it one last time before he let's the guy rest in peace.

And with this i officially stop reading everything from Marvel, until Banner get's back and is the Hulk again, Marvel isn't getting anything from me.

It's very interesting that Marvel studios is doing so well with nearly all of their movies and are beloved by fans while the actual comics themselves are getting more and more hated by the fans.

All you need to calm down, this is what marvel has *always* done. How many times Jean Grey or other x-men died and returned? How many times spider-man threw his uniform in the thrash? The motto for marvel is The Status Quo is King. let's wait the dust settle from this last mega-saga and see if anything at all has changed in fact.

I'm not opposed to Marvel changing their original heroes, well changing all of them is too far. But I think they need to be willing to kill off their big guys and not back out. Character development can only stretch so far, the best characters/comics are those that a finite e.g. Sandman, Lucifer, Hellblazer (to name some of my favourites). It's all in the execution, they haven't been handling their characters well recently and if starting fresh will help then let them do it. I'll see how this plays out.

Once this would have really bothered me. Now I just chuckled at it. I'll note Carol's fascism continues to rise. Also note for the record that Tony led the Illuminati that threw the Hulk off of the planet and aided in the boom of Hulkworld, so hypocrisy is still the mainstay of the marvel writing staff.

And now Banner has fallen ... thank you Marvel ...making it REAL easy for me to take your fan base.

*Goes back to work on expanding EVO Universe*

*Comes back real quick to add something*

On a side note ... how did those idiots (Talking about Carol and her crew) know that it wasn't Amadeus, our CURRENT Hulk who was the threat?! Past issues have shown that HE is not in control as he believes himself to be. He's blacked out to the point that he didn't even know he was aiding the Enchantress.

Don't tell me that next issue we're going to find out that they put down the wrong Hulk.

*Leaves once again to work on expanding EVO Universe*

I was wondering when someone would tell everyone to calm down. I don't think it will do any good, it never does any good. Also marvel wants this, they structure their storylines to gin up the anger and hate, if there isn't some shouting going on with the release of this issue, some really loud melt-down reactions I'm sure marvel will be disappointed. They love hate.

For myself I think they could have at least let the Hulk put some pants on before he killed everyone.

Why is Marvel getting rid of all their original heroes?

One word "sales". It's why all the mantle passes are happening, why all the big time heroes are being replaced with mostly children of various ethnicity and gender swaps. It's why the major events are happening; Civil War, Secret Wars, etc. etc. etc.

It's all about easy gimmicks that make quick cash. Ever since Superman died, the death of major heroes has meant big sales although the more common place they become, the less sales happen.

@bl00dwerk: That would be too Bendis.

Why would Banner inject stuff into himself? Bit odd. I wonder what Cho would do about this. Banner has turned into the Hulk a billion times and because of some vision they kill him. They have a Thor and everything right. Funny.

I like how they think killing Banner will work. Shooting him into space didn't work, every attempt before this never worked. This is lazy and predictable writing.
