Lionsgate gives a definitive release date for for the upcoming 'Kick-Ass' film


 
 
 


 It's amazing to think that so much of the money backing the upcoming 'Kick-Ass' film came from independent sources, being that it was not until recently that director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the comic book was picked up by Lionsgate studio for the release. This means that the film company now owns the rights to the film and will be in charge of its distribution. After news got out that the film was picked up by a major company, it did not take long until there was a release date for the film. Liongate has officially set the release date for 'Kick-Ass' on April 16th. It is somewhat strange, however, that the film will not be released in the summer considering all the good press it has received. Perhaps Lionsgate does not wish to compete with the summer release of 'Iron Man 2'?

The independent funding of this film allowed the film makers the creative ability to do what they wanted as far as the film's content was concerned without the influence of a bureaucratic production company looking over their shoulder telling them what to change.  

 “Making and financing KICK-ASS has been an amazing experience, and we’ve had two important goals from the start:  make a singularly entertaining film and find the right studio to release it," said Vaughn. "With Lionsgate, I know that I’ve got a supportive and fearless team behind me.  It’s going to be fun working together to bring the film to audiences and those who are already fans of the comic book.”
