Comic book crossovers have become the norm these days. We often see major characters interact with those from other titles in big, epic tales. They may be a bit overused, but they can also deliver entertaining stories.
DC Comics has recently unleashed a Rebirth upon the DC Universe. With a focus more on what makes the classic characters great, there's been a revitalization across the line of titles. Now that the new creative teams have established the tone for their books, DC is ready for a major crossover that was inevitable: Suicide Squad vs. Justice League.
The crossover is written by Joshua Williamson, current writer of The Flash and Frostbite, with art by Jason Fabok and Tony Daniel. The story deals with the day Amanda Waller knew was coming: the Justice League has discovered the existence of Task Force X. You can imagine DC's biggest heroes fighting for truth and justice won't agree with the idea of a government black ops team of supercriminals forced to go on missions with bombs planted in their heads. If this wasn't enough, there's another deadly team hiding in the shadows with ties to the mysteries of Rebirth, threatening to expose the dark secrets of the DCU.
"This story is another building block to Rebirth. With all of our heroes back on the board, it’s the super-villains turn. And the events within will set the stage for REBIRTH Phase 2 as a surprising team emerges and another piece of the puzzle of the future of the DC Universe, and the past, comes into focus," said said DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns.
The two-month-long event begins in December and continues in a six-issue weekly miniseries. The prelude for the story begins in Suicide Squad #8, also on sale in December. Issues 9 and 10 along with Justice League #12 and 13 will serve as tie-ins in January.
