Justice League Trailer Breakdown--Here's What's Going On

The new trailer shows details to what is uniting the League.

This originally was posted here. The version below has been slightly abbreviated. See the original for more images.

After several teasers this past week, the new Justice League trailer is finally here. There's a lot happening, and we see the team coming together to face a deadly threat. Here's everything that's going on in the trailer.

No Caption Provided

The trailer starts out with Bruce Wayne traveling the world to find the various superheroes to recruit them for an upcoming battle. For a guy who devotes a lot of money and Bat-Vehicles to fighting crime, he takes a more subdued approach to seeking out allies.

We hear Bruce mention an attack is coming, but Wonder Woman disagrees: "It's already here."

No Caption Provided

In what appears to be Silas Stone's home, a Mother Box has been activated. Silas is Victor Stone's father. He was seen in the video footage Bruce Wayne found in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

As Silas sees the Mother Box has been activated, a Parademon rises behind him. Parademons were seen in Bruce Wayne's future vision/dream. They are Darkseid's troopers on Apokolips.

No Caption Provided

Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, rescues what appears to be a fisherman. We can assume he was rescued from the rough seas and Aquaman didn't sink his boat. In the previous footage shown at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce arrives at the tavern seeking Aquaman out. Perhaps that scene takes place right after this.

No Caption Provided

Cyborg is shown in action. It's not clear how long it's been since his transformation. He is using his abilities to help others. That should make him easier for Bruce Wayne to find.

No Caption Provided

The trailer shifts to showing the Flash in action. We can expect a lot of flashy visuals with the Speed Force. In a more abbreviated scene than what was shown in last year's footage, Bruce throws a Batarang at Barry Allen in order to get him to reveal he's the Flash after he tries denying it.

No Caption Provided

Batman is finally shown in action. In the middle of a battle, Batman swings into a Parademon, dodging lasers being fired at him.

No Caption Provided

Aquaman makes a giant leap in order to throw his trident at some Parademons.

During this scene, Wonder Woman tells Bruce, "They said the age of heroes would never come again." It's not clear what or who this is referring to. Were there other heroes? Were there other heroes in this cinematic universe before now? Perhaps we'll find out more in the Wonder Woman movie.

No Caption Provided

Aside from being half machine, Cyborg is also able to fly. He can also cover up the exposed parts of his face.

No Caption Provided

Some viewers have critiqued the DC movies as being too serious. There will be humor in the movie. Barry asks Bruce what his superpowers are. Bruce replies, "I'm rich." This also sets the scene to reveal Batman's new vehicles.

No Caption Provided

Lois Lane makes an appearance. From Batman v. Superman, we know Superman is unable to take part in the action--at least for now.

No Caption Provided

Mera, Aquaman's wife in the comics, is seen underwater. It's not clear how much of Atlantis we'll see in the movie.

No Caption Provided

Barry Allen is visiting his father, Henry, in prison. Similar to the comics and TV show, Henry must have been arrested when Barry's mother was killed by Reverse Flash. This is something that would be fleshed out in the solo Flash film.

No Caption Provided

A horde of Parademons is attacking. It looks like either the battle has arrived on Themyscira, Wonder Woman's home island, or the Amazons have joined in the fight elsewhere.

No Caption Provided

Batman meets up with Commissioner Gordon, who comments, "It's good to see you playing well with others again." We know Batman's been active in Gotham for years and that his partner, Robin, was killed. Aquaman arrives when Batman and the Commissioner are speaking. His comment towards Batman's outfit further shows there will be some humor. Batman and Aquaman may not be getting along too well.

No Caption Provided

Despite any differences Batman and Aquaman may have, they will be fighting side-by-side. Aquaman posed on top of the speeding Batmobile also further illustrates his brash and reckless behavior. Aquaman here is a warrior that seems to enjoy a good fight.

Justice League arrives in theaters on November 17.

@don_higashikata: I would prefer the JSA to be on Earth 2, but that would be a good alternative. I like DC's multiverse (more than Marvel's), so it would be great to see it come to life onscreen.

Dumpster fire, best parts are Aquaman... and that does not say a lot for DC considering how much everyone hates on Aquaman.

The I'm rich superpower is completely overdone to death with Batman, I am sure some nerds will be happy he says it in live action but which Batman # are we on, Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale, Affleck, it's old..., Give us something new and so far you haven't delivered. I'm gonna compare this to Marvel in the aspect of Spiderman, how people are still excited by this new Spiderman is shocking to even myself, but it's possible to have an established character that's been done before and make them interesting, and this isn't the first time Marvel did it, Ghost Rider could have been bad as well and he turned out pretty awesome, and then there is Daredevil. the biggest and still best TV show about a superhero thus far. If DCEU takes any lessons from marvel, it should be that you can take a character that was used badly and approach in a different way and still make them awesome. They should take note for Batman.

Flash is a misstep but necessary for JLA, I am actually curious what they are going to do with him but not interested enough to see this mess.

Cyborg, not touching that.

Wonder Woman had the potential to be so much better than what they are making her, it makes me sad.

@moogman13: True but it's gonna be on the backburner until at least after 2020, given that for now Marvel is still concentrating on the Thanos/comsic endgame storyline.

Plus DC have always had the more pronounced multiverse, what with Grant Morrison and Multiversity and 52 and all. If they take a more direct approach to the multiverse in the DCEU they could really make it unique. Imagine Batfleck meeting all the older Batman actors, Man of Steel meeting Smallville Superman, Ezra Flash meeting CW Flash, etc. Much more potential than with Marvel

Eh, you can't really equate what they do in the comics, with the movies. Perhaps it's a bit more prominent in the comics for DC, but Marvel have had a series specifically dealing with alternate worlds, Exiles, and they have series now about it too, Web Warriors, plus Secret Wars recently. DC always kind of limited their multiverse, then always streamlined it, then reverted back to it. I doubt DC will do what you suggested, since they seemed very hesitant to even acknowledge certain characters in their TV shows that are in the movies (they had trouble being allowed to use Superman for a while in Supergirl). Some have theorized that they may touch on things with Marvel due to the infinity gems/stones, or if they ever work out a deal with Fox (and use the multiverse as a way to have a crossover). I think the DCEU is actually less likely to cross over with their shows and do the multiverse, they seem less likely to take risks, unlike their TV counterparts who embraced it.

Cyborgs not-finished CGI looks not finished. It's almost as if this movie is 8 months away or something.

Damn this trailer is good. I wish I saw it in Imax. So excited for this but first we got Wonder Woman to watch. DCEU is always so crisp in their footage. Just hope they don't reveal Superman in the upcoming trailers. Need to avoid watching them now haha

I suspect the movie is going to be crap. From the first trailer, I gathered that it's trying to imitate the Avengers with its type of humor; they're also trying to make each character look more badass than they actually are, in terms of behavior. I still don't feel Ben Affleck's Batman holds any weight to the franchise, mostly because I think he was a bad choice for the role; I would have rather seen Scott Adkins donning the Cowl, as he is a legit mixed martial artist and needed such a role to advance his acting career. Apart from all that, Cyborg looks dull and muddy in the CGI department; another typist said Iron Man had it better, and I agree.

Haters are gonna hate DC because its the cool thing to do. Boast the greatness of Marvel Studios all you want, it took three... yes THREE 'phases' of films before we got a single one headlined by anything other than a white male. DC's first 'phase' of films included WW and Cyborg. Marvel is all about diversity in their comics, but they ain't taking chances on those film properties. And then there's thousands of fans caught in the middle cause their universes don't match up like they used to.

I doubt the CGI is finished on 'Borg. And we've still yet to see how Superman will come into play and if rumors of a Martian Manhunter or GL cameo are true.

And I can't remember who to quote in this thread, but somebody claimed Snyder already burned them three times... did he make a 3rd DCEU movie I don't know about? Cause Suicide Squad was David Ayers film. Unless of course you're talking about Watchmen... and even with it's differences from the comics and lack of Capt. Metropolis that's still one of the best superhero themed movies EVER.

Looks pretty bad.

"I'm rich" line shows Batman is a moron or the writers hate the character or both....

Barry Allen portrayed as a teenager is downright insulting... That's why we have Bart Allen...

this is a mess

Cyborg and Flash look like crap. CW Flash looks better than this movie's version, and that's saying something for a TV show with a likely far smaller budget.

Difference of opinion, I know, but you lost me here. Nicholas Cage delivered a flaming pile of dung instead of a flaming skull. Why they didn't reboot and stuck with him for number 2 I'll never understand.

Ok from the start up, I'm not looking forward to this because they decided not to run with the original JL (Batman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Wonder Woman), then they completely changed the look of Aquaman seriously were they that afraid to not force diversify that they have to race bend a character so they have additional non-white people? Then there is the fact that Batfleck sucks. He isn't good at all, I wish that after Batman v Superman Affleck would have accepted all the hate and just walked away leaving someone better to be the Bat. Then you have a version of the Flash on the TV show and they don't use him they get some other guy to be Barry WHY? Seriously Marvel was smart and they have the guy that played Colson on the movies play Colson on the TV show, when they had black Nick Fury show up on the show they actually got Samuel L. Jackson to show up and play the character. DC could learn from this, that would allow them to have saved tons of money and used a better version of Deadshot (from Arrow) rather than trying for name recognition with Will Smith (who sucked). In the first picture of Cyborg where his hand is the giant metal block, I'm guessing that it is a transformed hand into a "hammer" of some kind to hit people with, but it looks like crap, I could wrap a cardboard box in tin foil and put it over my hand and it would look like this. When Cyborg has the thing to cover the rest of his face it looks stupid, like someone covered a hockey mask with tin foil. Batfleck looks like he's thinking about molesting the kid in the car with him in that next picture...seriously DC you need to look at the fact that Wonder Woman did ok because of Starving Man syndrome and realize that it was a Captain America rip off and blow up this version of the DCCU and start over and actually care about the stories.

@laughingbatman: Yes, Yes I do. I'm hoping Marvel listens also I'd like to see them give Mosaic a good push also because I think with some work that he would be great, being that he is a minority character and shows that Marvel does still have the capability to create something NEW that is ok (potentially good or maybe even great) and not need all the PC stealing of our classic heroes.
