HEAVY METAL is about to have a face-lift. The longtime magazine, which began back in 1977 as the United States' answer the French magazine METAL HURLANT, features comics that are skewed more towards adult readers.

The magazine has hired on writer Grant Morrison as the Editor-in-Chief, as reported by EW this afternoon. Morrison is known for his more adult stories which includes THE FILTH, THE INVISIBLES, and NAMELESS. However, Morrison is behind some iconic stories like NEW X-MEN and ALL-STAR SUPERMAN as well.

CEO of HEAVY METAL, Jeff Krelitz is excited about Morrison coming on and is a fan himself of Morrison's work in the past:

“The first D.C. Comics book I ever picked up was Arkham Asylum. I thought ‘Holy shit! Batman just went Heavy Metal!...From the standpoint of what he does and how he tells a story—edgy, provocative, avant-garde—that’s us. And why not? It just makes sense.”
