Coming from USA Today, a new picture was released of Henry Cavill as Superman in the upcoming sequel to the Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is set to come out on May 6th, 2016.

Cavill will appear alongside a pretty full cast including Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gabot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and both Amy Adams returning as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne returning as Perry White.

In the interview with USA Today, director Zack Snyder had this to say about the upcoming film:

The more time I spend with Henry, the more he's Superman to me... I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie, but on the other hand it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is slated to open up on May 6th, 2016 and will be a lead in for a Justice League film, which Warner Brothers has said they'd like to have out in 2018.

@br_havoc:

Gotham City has been many things? Please cite some examples because the only time I've seen it be anything but dour is in the Adam West TV series and recently during the Gothtopia story. Gotham is meant to be bleak and hopeless as a contrast to Metropolis's identity as the "City of Tomorrow" and both are the night and day clichés of NYC. Batman and Superman are meant to be contrasts as well so it stands to reason that if Superman visits Gotham he's going to be in a location that's the opposite of cheery Metropolis.

@golden_cod: Sure Gotham has been many things and comics have reflected that whether it was the more 40's crime noir style of the BTAS that influenced the looks in the comics at the time or the campiness of the 60's tv show, or the more stylized gothic look of the Burton movies. What was popular at the time is what causes the evolution the city or the book in general.

Yes Gotham was never meant to be a happy go lucky place and you did raise some good points but at this point and time. The grit and darkness are something that Nolan wanted in his movies, Now that is fine, but his work is done that style is done, and like Gotham did in the previous era's it's time for something new a new vision of Gotham. WB need's to use this movie as a gateway not to just a Justice League film, but a new era of Superhero movies from them. Ones that are not stuck in a bleak outlook and bleak universe.

Also, how was Metropolis a bright color or cheery place in the Man of Steel to me it looked much the same to what Gotham did before it was destroyed.

@dwightspitz: Nah, at least he looks somewhat like a younger Luthor...i'd have to give that award to Marvel getting the black kid from Chronicle(Michael B. Jordan) to play Human Torch? Really? lol

But on the topic, love the darkness factor. So fitting and I agree with most Cavill definitely buffed up further..

@vaeternus:

I don't really like F4 to begin with (although Dr. Doom is a clear candidate for not only Marvel's but the world's greatest villain), so to me I'm only glad Marvel included a little black in the roster. Human Tourch's character really fits an urban cooky black youth so I don't know if I think its such a bad call.

Are they really still calling it a Man of Steel sequel? Cavill does look older and bigger here. Guess he had to get bigger, because Affleck is huge!

Can't wait to see a pic of Bats and Supes together. Superman's suit seems a bit brighter. Hope his outlook and personality will be brighter, too. You know, more Superman-like. Or if they must insist on a moodier Supes, then give us a not-so-moody Batman (though that's probably a taller order). Whatever. I just want to see them balance each other perfectly the way they're meant to.

I'm serious though lol, at least the dude who's playing Lex is white and will shave his head. He's just younger, MBJ looks nothing like Human Torch and that new FF idea in general looks nothing like the characters, what is it? FF:Baby Bombers? lol I'm all for diversity don't get me wrong, but when comics do it for politically correct/forced reasons it's destined to fail. Feel the same way about DC, being more of a DC reader personally with Wally and Simon. They just seemed thrown in there for the sake of being different. But if you take Val Zod in Earth 2, I like him because he's actually developed and has a backstory that makes sense. He was adopted by the House of El back on Krypton. So for me it's all about development.

But yeah, I don't agree with that new FF change the general change and MBJ as Human torch just doesn't sell me.

What I was thinking, he does look older and bigger for sure because Ben looks huge too lol. Should be awesome seeing them stand side by side. Personally I think DC did great here with the looks alone, they look exactly like they do in the comics now. Where as Thor looks kind of puny compared to his comic book counterpart.

@laabitres: people keep telling me that but I just don't see it. No red belt, no neck brace, and it doesn't look like armor.
