It's about time.  The BBC has just announced that the final episodes of Doctor Who starring David Tennant as the Doctor will be airing in the Unites States soon.  As you may know, Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction series.  These last few episodes were shot and HD and there's just three more before the new Doctor arrives next year.

The next special, Doctor Who: The Waters Of Mars, airs on BBC America on Saturday, December 19 at 9 pm ET/PT.  It also stars British stage and screen actress Lindsay Duncan (Rome, Langford) as Adelaide, the Doctor's cleverest and most strong-minded companion.

All will be revealed as the Doctor and his companion Adelaide face terror on the Red Planet in one of the scariest adventures yet.   Peter O’Brien (Casualty, Neighbours) guest stars as Ed, Adelaide’s second-in-command at the base.

The Waters Of Mars is written by Russell T. Davies & Phil Ford and directed by Graeme Harper.  The remaining episodes starring Tennant will air over the holiday season as a two-part special.  The airdates will be released in early December.

The BBC will also release The Water Of Mars and the two-part finale on DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday, February 2, 2010.  (Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead is already available on DVD and Blu-ray).

While it will be sad to see the final David Tennant episodes, there's no escaping the inevitable.  Bring on the new episodes!
