At least its over. Its FINALLY OVER. Oh wait, CC Omega is coming up, CRAP!

Pretty pointless. The whole event's sole purpose was to bring back Ben Reilly and event that was messed up.

Everybody check out RENEW YOUR VOWS by true and superb writer GERRY CONWAY the original Gwen Stacy killer and writer of Spider Man's most legendary Silver Age ending story.

They said this was going to be a dark Spider-Man story. Yet here we are, at the end, and the "Jackal" is making quips.

@supi: I wouldn't say it's the best Spidey event in the last 15 years (I preferred Spider-Island) but it's been very good so far. I'm looking forward to the conclusion!

@alinewonka:

Technically the writer of Spider Man is Peter in a way. Conway became Peter when he wrote ASM in the 70's and killed Gwen as Spider Man and as the writer masterminding her death.

Slott however is just wearing Peter's skin rather than becoming Peter himself. Superior Spider Man is the perfect example of this. I think Slott has more in common with Ock than Peter and that's why he created that story.

It was either Gwen or Aunt May he chose Gwen. Really pissed May didn't stay dead in ASM 400. She's irrelevant at this point, baggage if you will. A burden, an obstacle. Peter's always felt like a mama's boy around her and it always deppressed me.

A story that started out promising and in typical Slott fashion it burst into flames. After issue 3 it was clear that this story's purpose was to bring back Ben Reilly to give him his own solo comic. In the end the story wasn't even a service to Spider Man himself but to elevate another character within his story. Only reason Slott's story is the real one is because he's writing the canon, otherwise all his stuff Superior and forward is pure gibberish and self fulfilling fan fiction. Slott's only legacy is that he's been one of the longest ASM writers, nothing more. The character move forward thanks to a nonsensical plot and not because of the achievements of Peter himself. Slott has used ASM to elevate Doc Ock and introduce his own petty creations. All Spider Man is under Slott is a supporting character rather than the main attraction.

Well its not like he frequents this site or forums. Its the truth as well. He wrote and orchestrated her death which was executed beautifully.

In the interview he gave when talking about his run on RYV, he always believed that Peter and MJ were meant to be together and not Gwen who had grown stale and boring whereas our favorite redhead was always fun and dynamic. He said he had the choice between Gwen or Aunt May and they ultimately decided on Gwen stating that May was still too important. At the time May was still important but nowadays she's completely irrelevant. A burden I'd say, an obstacle. She should've stayed dead in ASM 400, perfect sendoff. JMS managed to revitalize her and for the first time she was cool but then OMD came and Slott started alluding to incest elements between her and Peter and it was downright godawful and disgusting. Much like Ben and Gwen, May is long due the eternal sleep of the grave.

@2cool4fun: Peter refused to help Ben with his cloning experiments, so Ben ended up succumbing to the madness first created by the Jackal torturing him before the events of this story.

Throughout the story and the entire volume of ASM Vol 4, we see Jackal as a collected and mischievous individual completely set on his idea of "not a villain". His sudden and instantaneous drop when he ordered Peter killed was OOC and against everything Slott built up and the entire issue 4 felt completely rushed as if Slott got in over his head cause he needed to wrap up the story in the next issue. The sole purpose of CC was to bring Ben Reilly back so Marvel could give him his own solo comic. In the end a supposed "remember for years event" turned out to be nothing but the elevation of another character. I guess the only thing I liked from CC aside from the gorgeous art and covers was Peter's attitude and him finally accepting that people will die and his no one dies rule is pure idealist fantasy.

His rage also felt genuine at times and that he's not affected so much by his failures of the past to the point where he's almost gotten over his past losses such as his conversation with Gwen. He is completely over her and only feels "love guilt" because she died and he blamed himself. Hopefully Slott continues to build on Peter's attitude and outlook from this event to at least TRY to deliver plausible and non deus ex machina stories. You already know I'm biased against Slott but this time I took a moment to search for something good he did and I found it. I long for his run to end but at least he can surprise the world and end memorably despite his last couple of years being average and below. I also hope he ends Parker Industries well so Peter doesn't become known as the guy who was a billionaire and suddenly lost it all. He'd be carbon copying Iron Man seeing as how he was a top billionaire then he went broke. Hope it doesn't happen to Peter.

Meanwhile, RYV is pure bliss both in art and writing. The official members of the Parker Spider Family are Spider Man, Spinneret (MJ) and Spiderling (Annie following issue 4).

@eto: Clearly not, but to quote you whenever someone calls you out for propagating hate against progress in comics, he's entitled to his opinion. It's no less fact to him than yours is to you. All the same, you're both entitled to have one as a free-thinking individual.

I'm excited for the end, but not really sure where they're planning to take Reilly in his upcoming Scarlet Spider series. Redemption? Getting back in touch with his humanity? It'll be interesting to see.

Yes, I know, I was simply making a joke. I guess it fell flat.

I also agree that Aunt May should leave ASM.

It definitely isn't as bad as you make it seem. Jackal/Ben's whole plan revolved around getting Peter to join up with him, and when Peter refused, it must have been like the whole world he constructed for himself was collapsing. He had nothing left other than his plan, and Peter took that away from him too.

Yeah, that's another reason why Parker Industries shouldn't be taken away from Peter. It's far past time that Peter gets to succeed, and act responsibly to help the world. Hopefully MJ comes back and helps him run it for a long, long time. I'd really like to see some other writers have a chance at tackling a Peter who uses his smarts and powers for the betterment of mankind, the Earth, and even the universe.

Meanwhile, RYV has Peter let his 8 year old daughter go around fighting crime after being roasted by MJ. It's the antithesis of responsible, especially since he hasn't bothered to give her adequate protection.

He had nothing left other than his plan, and Peter took that away from him too.

He overreacted and acted too rashly. Immature like a child. He didn't even try to convince Peter back into his side and gave up, very much unlike a Peter clone. Jackal took everything from himself when he completely overreacted.

Parker Industries would have worked better as a scientific and medical institution rather than a tech empire. The potential was squandered. I agree wholeheartedly that Peter needs to remain successful. However Parker Industries will end, and like any ending I hope its good and plausible. As for the betterment of the universe, sounds boring. This is a comic book about costumed heroes fighting supervillains, don't over complicate it.

Meanwhile, RYV has Peter let his 8 year old daughter go around fighting crime after being roasted by MJ. It's the antithesis of responsible, especially since he hasn't bothered to give her adequate protection.

Definitive proof that Peter isn't okay with Annie crimefighting. The premise of the book is a superhero family so obviously, a la Incredibles all members will find themselves in the spotlight an kid sidekicks are a staple of the comic book industry thanks to the likes of Batman and such. Peter with child or without it will always find himself in situations beyond his control where his modicum of responsibility is rendered irrelevant. Peter will be eternally irresponsible so long as he's Spider Man for the mere fact that he's putting his family and others at risk.

As noted before, in the storyline ending with “Amazing Spider-Man” #700, Peter Parker and Otto Octavius switched bodies. However, their old memories remained in their bodies, so the brain that was now in the new body had access to the memories of its former owner. That’s how, in “Amazing Spider-Man” #700, Peter was able to at least force Otto to experience all of Peter’s memories. Upon doing so, Otto couldn’t help but want to be an actual hero, because Peter’s sense of responsibility from his memories was just THAT strong.

However, before Otto’s body died, Peter also managed to experience Otto’s memories in “Amazing Spider-Man” #699 (by Dan Slott, Humberto Ramos and Victor Olazaba), and he got to better understand his old foe, seeing his childhood as an abused kid. He even got to see how Otto saw Spider-Man himself (as a bully, of course). However, he finally got to experience a memory he wished he rather had not experienced: the time that Octavius had had sex with Aunt May! After that, Peter likely welcomed getting brain-wiped!

@ursaber: This? PFFFFFFR!!!!! Peter was dying or at least he was thinking that he was dying. In where I come from there's a saying ,,a drowning man will clutch at a straw''. It means that people would horrible things to survive. And what this have to do with a incest? It's more like watching member of the family fucking on a Movie. It's sick yes but do not compare this to incest.

This was so unnecessary. The number of awkward moments and strange exchanges between the two has become very blegh. Incest: sexual relations between family members. Aunt and Nephew, regardless if they're not tied by blood its utterly disgusting. Even if its not incest in and of itself its still alluding to the idea and its absolutely godawful.
