Essential Comics for 6-15-16

These are the comics you're looking for.

Every Wednesday, hundreds of new comic books are released, and figuring out what books are worth reading can be a daunting task. Luckily, we're here to help you out with that. Here are seven upcoming issues, in no particular order, you should consider buying on Wednesday, June 15.

Batman #1

No Caption Provided
  • Published by DC Comics
  • Written by Tom King
  • Art by David Finch

With Detective Comics' release last week, fans seem to be very excited about the direction Batman is headed, and now writer Tom King and artist David Finch are taking over Batman. The book is kicking off with a story about new heroes coming to Gotham to be its savior. How is Batman going to deal with someone else wanting to save the city and how soon before they butt heads?

Green Lanterns #1

No Caption Provided

  • Published by DC Comics
  • Written by Sam Humphries
  • Art by Robson Rocha

This new Green Lantern series will follow Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, two rookie Green Lanterns. It's been quite some time since the series has followed someone new to the job. There's a lot for these characters to learn about the job. We're excited to see what Sam Humphries and Robson Rocha have in store for readers.

Manifest Destiny #20

No Caption Provided

  • Published by Image Comics
  • Written by Chris Dingess
  • Art by Matthew Roberts

Last month, we got our first look at the new Manifest Destiny story, featuring Sasquatch. It seems to be a much slower build than any previous story in the series, which is great. The book has a slower pace, building a lot more tension for the reader, as they await Bigfoot to make his debut. This is easily the most underrated book at Image Comics.

Civil War II #2

No Caption Provided

  • Published by Marvel Comics
  • Written by Brian Michael Bendis
  • Art by David Marquez

The first issue left the Marvel Universe shocked as one, possibly two, heroes met their demise. Marvel's summer event is kicking to high-gear now. It's obvious that lives are on the line, and it all revolves around a new super-powered Inhuman named Ulysses. Why is he so important, and why does he make heroes battle heroes?

Han Solo #1

No Caption Provided

  • Published by Marvel Comics
  • Written by Marjorie Liu
  • Art by Mark Brooks

Marvel has done some wonderful things with the Star Wars franchise. The comics have the look and feel of the films but get to tell stories that can be too large for the big screen. Now, Han Solo is finally getting his own book. Solo is working on a top-secret mission for the Rebellion. This five-issue miniseries has a stellar creative team behind it, so this is a book to check out.

Vote Loki #1

No Caption Provided

  • Published by Marvel Comics
  • Written by Christopher Hastings
  • Art by Langdon Foss

If gigantic Marvel events aren't up your thing, Vote Loki may be up your alley. Thor's greatest nemesis is running for President of the United States. It's over-the-top, but it sounds like a fun and entertaining read. Writer Christopher Hastings is known for his more humorous writing, and that's just what a title like this needs.

A&A #4

No Caption Provided

  • Published by Valiant
  • Written by Rafer Roberts
  • Art by David LaFuente

Valiant has a hit on their hands with the newest Archer & Armstrong series. The book is silly and delves into A&A lore in a humorous way. The highlight of the new series has been the new character Davey the Mackerel and this issue is going to explain a little bit more on just who this character is. If you're looking for something a bit different than what Marvel and DC typically offers, you can't go wrong with this book.

Need some more recommendations? Check out these new titles.

Essentials: Batman, Superman, Titans Rebirth.

Honorable Mentions: Green Arrow, Green Lanterns, Justice League.

Others: New Suicide Squad, Poison Ivy.

P.S. Batman and Green Lanterns could go either way. I preferred the Green Lanterns one-shot but I'm giving the slight edge to Batman because of David Finch beginning his run.

-Titans rebirth (hooray for Wally!)

-Superman #1 (one of my most anticipated )

-Green arrow #1 (same as above )

-Batman #1 ( rebirth one shot was underwhelming but I'm certain King won't dissapoint)

-Green lanterns #1 (going to give it one more issue and see if I like it . Honestly , I just want to read about hal, john , Guy, or Kyle. Anticipating Hal Jordan and the GLC)

-DKR last crusade ( I really hope I don't regret this )
