DC Reveals Details on the 52 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 Variant Covers

Artist David Finch's variant covers for the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE title is revealed.

The first issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 will be a bit different from the titles that are usually released from DC. To celebrate the U.S. as well as all 52 DC titles, DC will release 52 different variant covers for the first issue, each cover will feature '52 U.s. flag variant editions,' one for each of the 50 states in the union as well as one for Washington, D.C. and one for Puerto Rico. The image will feature members of the league including Catwoman, Green Arrow, Baz (the new Green Lantern) and Vibe.

The image is inspired by the classic photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal for the Associated Press back in February 23, 1945 during World War II in which a group os U.S Marines hoisted the flag on Mount Suribachi. The historical photograph is titled 'Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima' and is a classic picture, so it makes sense that the artist David Finch would use the image as inspiration for the cover to the first issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1, due to his comic shop shelves on February 6th, 2013.

According to DC, there is "no minimum purchase needed to order the variants," and a shrinkwrapped pack of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 along with all 52 covers will be made available for purchase. Below are three of the 52 total covers, one sporting an American flag and the other two featuring the state flags for California and New York to give you an idea of what they will look like. What do you think of this idea?
