After a sex-tape scandal, former Hollywood child star turned Z-lister Chondra Jackson returns to her hometown of Effigy Mound, IL, to find a seemingly impossible crime – a fresh corpse in an ancient Indian burial site. Even weirder, the murder resembles a scene from an episode of her old TV show, Star Cop, a live-action children’s show about a kid detective.

As Chondra starts to investigate, she stumbles upon a bizarre cult that worships celebrities as eternal effigies. And these cult members aren’t just worshiping – they’re also ritually sacrificing anyone who defies their veneration of the beautiful and famous. Chondra’s probe takes her on a terrifying tour of burial mounds across the world, from Stonehenge to the Nazca Lines of Peru. But what is the link between the cult, Chondra’s hometown, and her own bloodline? Will Chondra become the hero detective she played as a child…or is she in fact the cult’s unwitting messiah?

Written by rising star Tim Seeley (BATMAN ETERNAL, GRAYSON, Revival) and illustrated by Marley Zarcone (Black Circle, MADAME XANADU), EFFIGY is a twisted murder mystery and conspiracy tale that examines celebrity, godhood, and the price of fame.

I don't really like that the new Power Girl is joining the Titans, I really wanted to see Wally or Emiko join. The book needs to add more of well established characters with some legacy, while still building up the characters already in the book. A non-established character who doesn't have much interest going for her will be like tying a stone to the book.

Also that Captain Marvel 75th Anniversary book looks very very nice.

Superman with new powers and a new costume? Count me interested, if not apprehensive about Geoff Johns' current Superman run. Hopefully it'll be better than that Electric Blue period.

I've heard a lot of negative reaction for that costume due to it being too metallic, alien and joyless. Criticisms to that effect. Maybe this new costume is to appeal to the dissenters of Superman's costume change.

@lvenger: I don't know where the metallic complaint comes in but most of the people that complain about the new 52 costume are the people who complains about the classic look. So i tend to ignore those people.

@movieartman: Sigh, do you just bandwagon and hate on everything I say? And these aren't even my complaints this time round.

  1. That's the problem, it needs the right artist to look good. I love when Jim Lee draws it but he designed Superman's new look so of course he knows how to draw it well. Plus the collar looks absurd and the triangular things on his wrist could do with getting removed. The lines can be said to overcomplicate the simple effectiveness of Superman's original costume, underpants and all.
  2. He was raised a human and acts more human than most other human beings. Plus it removes the charm of his mother making his super suit from indestructible blankets in his spaceship.
  3. I've seen several instances where the colour palette of Superman's armour has been darker. And darker colours don't make for an inspiring hero.
  4. And what's wrong with appealing to the dissenters of The New 52? You do realise that 3 years on, fans are still clinging onto the Pre New 52 universe, are still complaining about the New 52 ruining the history and legacy of the previous universe and are still petitioning for DC to bring back the New 52? Short of rebooting their entire line again, subtle changes could entice Pre New 52 fanboys to read more DC.

I don't mind the new look but I'm a sucker for the classics. Of course the new look is far from the worst Superman costume as its critics complain but given that few artists can make it work, there's room for improvement IMO.

I must admit I am somewhat disappointed that there are no more new New 52 series being released in January. And also none of the existing ones are cancelled. How many different books are the fans begging for, but they keep publishing the same stuff. And then when they do create a new series, it's something nobody had asked for, like Infinity Man and the Forever People, Gotham Academy, or Star-Spangled War Stories. Though many times these turn out to be fan favorite series, everyone's still clamoring for solo series for Cyborg, Shazam!, Martian Manhuter, etc., etc.

I really don't have too much to look forward too..which bums me out.

Batman most likely will be good, Endgame seems to have some potential. I was just kinda disappointed with Death of the Family so I'm treading lightly with Snyder this time around with the Joker.

The new direction of Green Arrow still ticks me off. I see Andrea Sorrentino is doing some covers for Worlds End but Im really hoping they get him back on an ongoing book soon.

I was looking forward to Deathstroke. Again treading lightly with Tony Daniel's writing though his art always amazes me. But I just don't like the Harley Quinn cameo. I have a pet peeve when a new series starts and 3-4 issues in they need to go off topic with a cameo appearance.

Its actually done because shops typically put in their order 2-3 months in advance of release, which means that the first two issues of a newly launched series are being ordered blind. If customers are pre-ordering them, they're doing so based on hype alone, and shop owners have to basically guess at how many copies will actually sell.

The third and fourth issues are the first ones that are ordered based on actual customer response. The shop has seen how many copies they've sold so far and are adjusting their orders accordingly. Because of all that, its the sales of those issues that really show how well a series is doing, and companies like to throw special guests into those issues in an attempt to keep the order numbers from suddenly dropping off dramatically.
