Darwyn Cooke 1962-2016

...This was the man in the industry I most loved and most looked up to.

I cannot express how awful this is. He gave us New Frontier, which in my opinion is the greatest comic ever written, and more importantly he knew what comics really were, and wasn't afraid to say that the industry needed to change.

I wish I could have met him and let him know the impact he's had on me, and the medium I love so much.

That really sucks. He was one of the best.

RIP and condolences to his family, he was a really great artist with a unique style. Not only that but he wrote some amazing stories, like the New Frontier and Batman Ego.

I hate to be this guy, but it seems he was predominantly a DC artist, so outside my wheelhouse, but who is he? What did he do?

I know many people point to New Frontier, but his work on Minutemen will always be some of my favorite comic stories ever. Watchmen was my very first comic book, and I started reading regularly around the time when Before Watchmen was coming out. Minutemen was like receiving an actual prequel to Watchmen with a quality that was on par with Moore and Gibbons's original work, and was a fantastic enrichment of the broken characters of the Minutemen. To hear of his passing is so sad, not only for his family and loved ones, but knowing that the world will be denied further additions to his great body of work.

The dude was one of my favorite artists. His art and writing really reminded me of the age of comics when it was all just full of mysteries, wonder, fun and excitement.

RIP Darwyn Cooke.

This is very tough news. Darwyn Cooke was one driving forces behind my existence as a comic book fan, New frontier is and always will be one of my favorite stories.

Remembering his work makes me realise the range that the guy had not only as an artist but also as a writer, He could make both dark and light stories work perfectly. It makes me sad to see him go this early.

2016 claimed another one.

Looks like the early reports were right, what an utter tragedy. A brilliant and definitive comic book artist taken far too soon, RIP Mr Cooke, your talented contributions to the comic book industry will live on for a long time.

My first exposure to Darwyn was probably with Jonah Hex, but it was his work on Catwoman I probably remember him most for. Never liked the character until I read the stuff he did with Brubaker. I'm reminded of that every year when I put this ornament on my tree at Christmas.

RIP To be honest I didn't hear about him until recently, so I went and got New Frontier and looked at all his art. All I have to say is "WOW" This man knew how to draw heroes. He will be greatly missed

Along with his amazing and inspiring art and work in comics he also worked in animation on Batman, Superman, and Batman Beyond.

From what I have heard, Mr. Darwyn Cooke, created all the visuals for the opening to Batman Beyond. He even filmed a bust of Old Bruce on a record player to get that one shot of his head turning.

He inspired and touched so many with his art and also it is sad that he is gone.

RIP. One of the best talents (and just ppl from what I hear) in the biz.

Cooke's art never disappointed. What a shock, I never knew much of the man's personal life, did not know he was sick. His retro style was always so clean and refreshing. The industry lost a legend. The art world lost a legend.

So sad right now.

Rest in peace, sir. I'm ashamed to say that I only ever came across the new frontier in my travels with his Beautiful artwork. His designs were so simple yet so perfect. Easily one of the best artists along with Alex Ross and others.

This is really crushing to hear. I was hoping he'd at least have a few months to spend with his loved ones. Hopefully he got to say all his goodbyes. He was a great man and artist. RIP Darwyn Cooke one of my favorite artists and one of the greats.

Very sad news. He is unquestionably one of the all-time greatest comic book artists, or artist in general for that matter.

I really sorry for the family. His art was really amazing. I can't say how the family is feeling right now. I know what is lose someone you do care but living it in the right moment is different than remembering. I only can share my sympathies to the family and again thanks to Darwyn for give us his art.

So sad that one of my favorite comic artists is now gone. He was one of the best when it came to capturing the Silver Age or the noir feel of Gotham City.
