Cowboys & Aliens in the Wilde West

Actress Olivia WIlde Rides into the comics-based film...

She’ll be fighting more evil computer viruses than Norton security software in December’s TRON LEGACY, and now actress Olivia Wilde’s hopping on the saddle and swinging out her Peacemaker for a showdown at the E.T. Corral.    According to the Hollywood Reporter, she’s been cast opposite Daniel Craig as “Ella Verity” in the COWBOYS & ALIENS movie.

  And why not?
 And why not?

Jon Favreau’s directing this shindig, in what was to be another, non-IRON MAN outing with his star Robert Downey, Jr.  before the actor dropped out to give proper attention to his friends, Stark and Holmes.   Since Craig took up the role in his place, this has been the only casting news so far, although it’s got a mighty impressive posse at work behind the camera.

  Wilde & Craig to be?
 Wilde & Craig to be?

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the writing duo behind the TRANSFORMERS movies and the STAR TREK reboot) are penning the script with Damon Lindelof (the co-creator of LOST and writer, of course, of the torso-ripping ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS. HULK).  An odd trio of unknowns -- Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard & Brian Grazer – are producing the flick with the creator of the OGN itself, Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.

Unless you’re a devotee of HOUSE M.D. or THE OC, you’re probably not too familiar with Ms. Wilde just yet.   But would you believe she’s already got a bit of a comics connection?  She starred as a clarinet-playing Baroness in Funny or Die’s “Ballad of GI Joe” music video - - a celebrity-filled spoof that also starred Henry Rollins as Duke, Alan Tudyk as Shipwreck and Julianne Moore as Scarlet, among quite a few others.   If you haven’t seen this soulful, folksy ditty before, we've got you covered (it's a preview Wilde’s work that will, more than likely, be nothing like her turn as Ella in COWBOYS & ALIENS).
