C2E2: X-Men Panel - Battle of the Atom Crossover and More

It will be somewhat distracting reading Battle of the Atom and thinking, "Send the O5 back, send the O5 back, send the O5 back" the entire time.

@lykopis: fair enough. I know that if I were the author I'd appreciate having my legacy left intact, with no one ever tarnishing what I'd made under the same name. But the dispersion could definitely be disappointing.

As for Molly, fair enough. Hard to imagine what would turn her into an iron-pusher but as we can see this is like a cyberpunk dystopia they're hailing from (heck, Deadpool is basically an android), so a grim life may have ruined her. All the more reason to want that future precluded - to preserve the Molly we love.

Side note: if this version is anything like Borderlands 2's Gaige, I may love her anyway.

It's different - yes - but doesn't mean you can't pass the reigns off to someone else (which is pretty much how things work in the comic industry). In my opinion there is a lot more to be had in that series -- X-Factor made a name for itself so the series being cancelled makes no sense to me. There are a lot of characters in there that will be shuffled about and I suspect it will be to the other books which have the Avengers and X-Men mucking about together.

It's not the growing up I don't like -- it's the actual drawing of the adult Molly -- which is what I pointed out. Her powers are not based on physical strength so the over-the-top musculature takes away from representing her mutation (and by the way, I like seeing female heroes depicted in strong, physical shape)-- just that it makes no sense with this particular character. Your assertion about her working out is that it's conceivable she might because she wants to but in the context of how the character has been presented (regardless of her age) her hurling Wolverine several feet out of a building while she herself is a tiny little kid is a big part of what makes her endearing. But like I said, my opinion. I find it nonsensical to have her outfitted like a female Cable like another poster mentioned.

Oh, and it's a comic book --- not real life so Molly's body as her adult self is completely under the artist's control, not a real biological treasure to be enfolded. Keeping her svelte and small is possible and like I mentioned before, quite in line with the character - much in the same way your X-23 is small boned and (mostly) depicted in a less voluptuous way as other female characters.

As for these characters returning to the past to fix some wrongs? LOL - no kidding and I trust they will fade away into obscurity like so many others whose "futures" have been altered to reflect their success. In this particular instance, I am grateful for that. :)

@lykopis: oh and as for Molly, I guess I'm not all that bothered. She has to grow up sometime. She can't just stay adorable and naïve. If it's any consolation, these future characters returning to the past are likely trying to prevent the future they're from... So this is the product-of-a-horrible-future version of Molly, not the "real" future her. If that helps.

Physiology wise I guess I'm indifferent; seeing an 11-year-old doesn't give any real indication of what older her's body may look like. Just because she doesn't need to work out doesn't mean she couldn't, right?

@lykopis: it sounds like the book was reaching a reasonable ending point, after a miraculously-long run under one person's vision. I understand not wanting something good to end but it seems to me that deciding to end it because you're finished is different for having it cancelled on you....

I have to say -- this sounds dreadful. Utterly dreadful. All these "new" characters are just...wrong.

Really, Bendis et al? In your zeal to throw new characters into the X-Men Universe, you've failed to realize (most likely purposely ignored) one of the most endearing traits of Molly - she is this tiny little thing who has been capable of taking on some pretty big heavy-hitters while still being this sweet, innocent and naive kid...

So WTF is this?

While I love women looking strong -- why the heck does that always translate into huge knockers? What's with the bare midriff? This is Molly Hayes -- Princess Powerful!

I feel soiled just looking at that image. Her mutant powers do not translate into physical bulk -- that's the point.

Ugh. My opinion -- I don't like her look and as for the rest, I am sooooo fed up with variations of Wolverine's kids. Considering he had five running around who he killed not knowing they were, there's no need for a Daken 2.0 via Mystique. Like...really?

This has been bugging me for a while. Keep the above character but don't make her Molly -- it makes no sense and that whole bandanna fetish has got to go. Like, NOW.

(Edited to add: Oh -- and I am p*ssed at X-Factor being cancelled. Just to throw that out there.)

Basically I stopped seeing anything else in the post after reading that name. It's good to see a Runaway making an appearance that doesn't involve a strong likelihood of being murdered.

Wolverine is kill-able and is being written by Paul Cornell...I say take my $$$. Same for Battle of the Atom and Deadpool and Logan fighting alongside Cap. Aweome things!

I'm a fan of bodybuilding women, but Molly's strength doesn't come from her muscles- does it ?!? So, why is she built like Dana Linn Bailey... and that other arm? Yikes!!! Please no more Cable-isms ( I have always detested that character, never got him and I refuse to be swayed on this point: Cable=awful) so lets hope it's just some armor.

P.S. please give Jr. a shirt to go under that jacket, and lose the skirty thing- uggh

What both of these men said. Hopefully they kill the ridiculous anachronisms off and get on with good talent on regular ongoing titles. Oh yeah - did this article not mention Peter David leaving X-Factor? There's at least one vacancy to fill - and some pretty big damn shoes at that.

While we are on topic about Wolverine, I was lurking about what's upcoming in the next few months for new issues and, to my surprise, Wolverine is getting another on-going series?! It's called "Wolverine In Flesh"

Too much time travel in such a short period of time. It's getting more than just boring.

The only way I could like this is if it starts with something like old Beast (which looks stupid by the way) telling his present self something like: "Yeah, we messed everything up, big time".

With xfactor ending I hope some of the characters like M and Polaris get on other teams

Im not against having this crossover. In fact i think the crossovers should start to clean up all the titles. I will be definitely checking it out. I kinda wish the future xmen were members from the school. I've wanted a team like: Prodigy, Surge, Hellion, X-23, Armor, Dust and maybe Gentle and Idie. If they were the future xmen that would be even more interesting

Don't forget Cap was part of weapon plus (weapon I, I believe), the group behind Weapon X and all the other Weapon (insert roman numerial here) programs

Deadpool comic looks cool going to definitely read it, and ummm future deadpool looks uhhh cool I guess.

X-Factor's cancellation was the news I was waiting for. I had seen it coming for awhile now. Not because of sales numbers (it has been the X-Book that hangs on despite numbers), but because Peter David has come to the logical story end for several of the characters, and he's not one to milk a dead cow for nostalgia sake. I'm sad but I'm glad we're getting an ending to the series that is the one the writer intended to have, rather than being forced to produced due to surprise cancel news.

Seeing the concept art for Molly Hayes alone is a good enough reason to be excited about this arc, as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

• Cap, Wolverine, and Deadpool? Seems weird to have Cap there, like it's just for the pun in the title. Why not use Guardian or Vindicator or another Canadian superhero instead?
• Oh booooooooooooooooo. X-Factor has been fantastic since Madrox took it over, and now with the end coming up it'll probably be all Lorna and Pietro.

X-books have been playing with time travel and alternate futures since 1981. In fact, I would say that authors messing with the future is part of the X-Men as much as sentinels are. I'm looking forward to this, Old beast looks awesome and the fact that Wolverine Jr might be redhead and blue skinned makes me wonder who his mother is (I'm thinking about Mystique but... who knows)

I'm excited for Battle of the Atom--it's been too long since we had a proper X-over--and the Shalvey Deadpool cover is so awesome. I like the idea of Deadpool teaming up with Logan and Cap to hit back at Weapon X.

Unfortunately, I'm not looking forward to Killable. I don't like the idea of it--and lets not forget that this plot seems to be the basis of the new Wolverine movie--but my major problem with it is that Cornell's first few issues of Wolverine have been terrible, so I have little confidence that Killable will be any better.

Marvel, give someone besides Bendis a chance please.

Like the idea of Deadpool teaming up with Wolverine and Captain America. Would prefer to see a team up with Cable. But this still could be a lot of fun. Battle of the Atom could a good read. As long as it has Chris Bachalo, Stuart Immonon and Oliver Coipel stay on their current books.

X-Factor is unfortunately a case of something good not being able to last forever. I've been getting so many people to read it lately. I guess they will at least have an end to read to.
