Brian Michael Bendis Teases The End of the Ultimate Universe

As much as I've loved the UU over the years I actually think it's time to end it.

I really hope it's not going to join the 616 Universe....really want it to get back to its glory days but I guess all things have to end. It was fun while it lasted...mostly

agreed. What's even worse is when people say things like. "spider-man is going to die....ok he's going to die this time... ok this time he's going to die. SEE I WAS RIGHT . TOLD YOU! CALLED IT" and let it get to their heads.

you called it two other times as well, you were bound to be right sooner or later. The ultimate universe stories will be done sooner or later, but they tease it so much you can't act like you saw it coming a mile away.

Oh, come on! Why would they do that? It´s not a trainwreck like some others (cough couch 2099), and it doesnt cost anything to let an idea live. Sure, end the series for some time, maybe come back in a few months with some new stuff, but ending the universe? That doesn´t sound right. Right? Saint Bendis wouldn´t allow his baby to wither away. They wouldn´t deserve it.

Well, about time an incursion hit.

I seriously hope the Ultimate universe survives. I've grown to like some of these characters more than the 616 characters, specifically the 1610 X-Men who actually have it bad unlike their 616 counterparts. I also want someone, preferably Bendis, to write the All-New Ultimates series and give us some good stories with the characters on the team.

Spidey is the only good thing about Ultimate. Just keep him in 616 and kill the rest of the UU.

im weirdly sad about the idea of characters like Aunt May, Ganke, Gwen, and MJ dying in the event this universe just explodes. The normal folk without super powers who stand no chance. I have no idea why...cause I usually don't care and never did care about any of them up until the possibility they could just go bye bye presented itself.

On the one hand, I don't see much point in destroying the universe just because it's not selling well right now. Let the idea survive and maybe someone can do something interesting with it in a few years.

On the other hand, the Ultimate line has without a doubt outlived it's original purpose. The whole point of the Ultimate line was that it was supposed to be a continuity-free place for people to jump onboard familiar franchises without needing to know a single thing about those characters. Now it's been 15 years, and everything is weighed down with almost as much baggage as the regular universe. So it's like... what's the point of the line now?

That's what they said last time with Ultimatum....

I hope they move Miles to the main universe, but only him.

@inferiorego: Wait, when did Miles get to the 616? I know that the All New X-Men from the 616 were in the Ultimate Universe, and that Miles is going all over the multiverse with Spider-Verse, but I didn't know that he went there.

Their are some good characters in the UU, so I'm hoping some (besides Miles) survive the Secret War in this supposed new MARVEL U.

This is the second time Marvel has teased "the end" of the Ultimate Universe in a little over a year. I expect that it may actually happen this time but coming so soon after Cataclysm really makes this seem like more of the same Marvel "THIS WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING!" events.

Miles needs to live. Everyone else is expendable. Killing a great character such as Miles would be a sin

I stopped caring about the ultimate universe after they killed off Peter Parker.

Ultimate Comics is like Jean Grey.

Go ahead and kill off the Ultimate universe imo. The Hulk isn't a hero and Shield acts like the mob so destroy it all all. lol

Honestly i think its time to let the Universe go, it's been on crutches for a while now. Revisit it from time to time like 2099, but ongoing just isn't working anymore

I mean, to be fair and if it makes you feel any better, 99% of characters wouldn't survive an exploding universe.

Another year, another Ultimate Universe threatening event. Just let it shuffle off quietly.

Isn't that the image used to promote Secret Wars, are Marvel gonna sneak the end of the Ultimate Universe into the event? I hope its not a major part of the main story if so.

'Bout time...still a real shame, since I know a lot of people loved the UU

I'm honestly fine with either result. I haven't been all that attached to the Ultimate Universe since the atrocity that was Ultimatum, its just hard to get invested in a universe after they let something like that go down. I'm not referring to the fact that characters died in the event(I think the fact that characters tend to stay dead in the Ultimate U is one of its strongest points), but rather the haphazard way it was handled by Loeb. Tons of characters acting out of character based on how they had been written up to that point. Also, the sheer number of characters they killed just numbed me to any sort of impact it was supposed to have. Those are just a few of the things that event did wrong. I've read some Ultimate stuff sporadically ever since(particularly Spider-Man), but the bad taste Ultimatum left in my mouth just refuses to go away.

I'm ok if they stop writing the comics but I really don't want the universe to be destroyed. I don't want a lot of my favorite characters to just die. Miles, Bombshell, Ultimate Kitty, Jean and Rouge, Sue Storm, Ultimate Jessica Drew. If you don't want to write them at least give them a happy ending or just leave the universe alone until someone has a story worth telling with these characters.

How many times can they tease the end of the Ultimate Universe? Honestly, it should have ended with Cataclysm.

The Ultimate universe is already agonising ,ending it now would be a mercy kill .

Kill them all, including Miles. It's nothing personal against them, but none of the ultimate characters belong in the 616.

Ultimatum was basically the end for me as well. Loeb just did a crummy job writing the story even though it had a fairly decent plot. I tried a few series after that but I always had a problem sticking with any of them. I'd like to go back and get the Miles Morales stuff, Spider-Men, and maybe a couple other storylines, but I don't think there is any possibility of MARVEL getting me to spend money on ongoing ULTIMATE comics ever again. I think they should end it, but not DESTROY the Universe. Just retire the line and maybe in a few years from now a brilliant writer will come along and revive it or do a limited series. Then it will be fresh and new again. The one problem I see is with how much everyone loves Miles Morales. They either need to introduce 616 Miles, or move him into the 616 Universe.

No thanks. I already gave up on the Ult Marvel U after they killed all my favorites including...

...Captain America, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Wolverine...and many many others.

If the universe does actually end,than i'm pretty sure Marvel will bring the Spiders to the 616 universe.

Ultimate Marvel has been on life support since Ultimatum. Time to let the old dog die.

I honestly don't care. The universe has been dead or been dying for a long time now. Only small instances have worked. My only problem is Miles coming to the main universe. Not that Miles is a bad character. If he was I wouldn't be still reading his book. It's just that we don't need more Spiders in the main universe..

They botched the Ult. Universe big time.

Had HUGE potential. Then came the dumb writing, stupid plots, butchered character development etc. etc. etc.

Ult Hawkeye started out epic.

Ult Captain America started out the bomb.

Ult. Wolverine (talking about the first few X-Men issues) could have been oh so much more. Instead they highlighted everything that's absolutely terrible about the character.

List goes on with regards these concepts that just took a nose dive.

I say nuke the place. Erase. Get rid of the bunk. Create a new template and get it right (if Marvel is at all capable of doing such).

Good riddance. Haven't followed Ult. Marvel in years.
