Every week, we take a look at some of the most bizarre, exciting, and downright unique things to happen in comics. Check out our choices of the strange and wacky things that shouldn't be overlooked from this week's releases.
There may be some tiny spoilers ahead.
Best Reminder Life isn't a Comic Book or Cartoon
Gwenpool believes she's from the real world and is now in a fictional comic book world. When she takes on a new mercenary and sees how much it pays, she's determined to fully express her reaction through her mask. People don't normally get dollar signs in their eyes in the real world.
Closest Correct Pronunciation of "Ra's al Ghul"
Batman's villain Ra's al Ghul's name was first pronounced on Batman: The Animated Series. His name was pronounced as Raysh-ah-Ghoul. In the movie, Batman Begins, his name was pronounced Roz-al-Ghoul. I've asked some people, and they agree the higher ups prefer "Raysh." We also see a version of that when the Turtles try to figure out who he is.
Best Reason not to Shoot Webs on top of a Train
Spider-Man discovers that shooting webbing on top of a high-speed train isn't a good idea. It just won't work.
Best Reason to Drive Your own Car
Despite what many saw in a certain live-action movie, Batman and Superman do get along pretty well. Superman pays Batman a visit and needs him to come with him. When he discovers Batman didn't have the Batmobile with him, he takes advantage of the fact and flies Batman to the location. Batman isn't crazy about being carried or flown.
Best Kindergarten Cop Reference
It's not often you hear or see someone quote Kindergarten Cop, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the middle of a fight, Jessica Drew decides it's the perfect time.
Best Explanation why Superheroes Like Phone Booths
Why do superheroes use phone booths so often? We get an explanation here. It's not like they can carry iPhones in their tights.
Best Fight in a Dominatrix Outfit
Lance Hunter is trying to infiltrate the Hellfire Club. He needs to be rescued so Mockingbird goes undercover, wearing an outfit that allows her to blend in. Good thing the outfit still allows her to kick everyone's butts.
Best Lesson About Kicking in Doors
Bobbi and Hunter need to make an escape. Hunter decides to kick in a door. Unfortunately, he forgot the last rule about wearing shoes.
Best Reason Superheroes Need Masks
Dinah Lance fights crime as Black Canary. She's also recently started touring in a band called Black Canary. On stage, she's known as D.D., but because she doesn't try to change her look, it's not surprising a defeated villain might ask for her autograph.
Best Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me Reference
While listening to a recording from a hidden microphone, we hear someone start saying David Bowie's line from the Twin Peaks prequel film.
Most Ungrateful Bystanders
Silver Surfer is trying to save Earth. This involves fighting a mind-controlled Ben Grimm. As the fight goes on, some bystanders aren't too appreciative of the Surfer's efforts.
Best Reason not to ask Someone "What's Wrong Now?"
Have you ever had someone ask you, "What's wrong? Are you mad?" That's likely to make you annoyed. When a person's happy and mad face look the same, you might not want to ask them what's wrong.
Best Fight Between two People Who Were Mind Controlled into Loving Each Other
In the town of Pleasant Hill, villains have had their minds altered and new identities created. Absorbing Man and Elektra were made to believe they were a dating couple. Despite what they went through, it doesn't stop them from fighting each other when the moment calls for it.
Best Backhanded Punch
We see a lot of fights in comic books. Sometimes you just have to sit back and appreciate the blows being delivered.
Weirdest Version of Doctor Doom You Didn't Expect to See
Young Spider-Man witnessed an art thief in a hoodie steal a painting. It turned out to be Doctor Doom. Hipster Doctor Doom? What's going on here?
Best Explanation on the Only Three Times Wearing a Monocle is Okay
Harley Quinn and her Gang of Harleys have also come across some Hipsters. One is wearing a monocle. We find out the only three times it's okay to wear one.
Moon Knight has often been described as a little unstable. Besides his superhero guise, Marc Spector created two other civilian identities to help him fight crime. Perhaps this was all too much. In the latest volume, he's being told that he never was Moon Knight. It was all in his head. He even kept a detailed notebook with all his delusions.
Best Reason not to Drink too Many Power Drinks
Reaction Cat is trying to stay awake at night. He switches from coffee to an energy drink. It might not have been the best idea.
Jason Todd has been trying to steer Joker's Daughter on the right path. Let's be clear, she's not really Joker's daughter. She's just wearing his face which was sliced off. Jason's not the Joker's biggest fan because that one time Joker decided to beat him to near death with a crowbar, then blow him up. This hug just looks so wrong.
Best Fantasy Football Teams
Rocket Raccoon is trying to get Tony Stark to play his RPG games with him. Stark agrees if Rocket can make it through his fantasy football game. Tony's version is pretty amped up to what you might be used to.
Best Out of Context Panel of the Week
Starfire just made babies. She really did. If you want to know the full details and actually see the physical act, you'll have to pick up the comic. We'll just say when alien species are involved, things get a little freaky.
