Every week, we take a look at some of the most bizarre, exciting, and downright unique things to happen in comics. Check out our choices of the strange and wacky things that shouldn't be overlooked from this week's releases.
There may be some tiny spoilers ahead.
Civil War II #6
Best Reason Iron Man and Doctor Strange Need to Be in a Movie Together
After using his magical abilities to teleport Iron Man and other heroes away from Captain Marvel and Maria Hill, Doctor Strange is complimented by Tony Stark. He calls him a rock star and reminds him of the feature that binds them. Tony says they're "facial hair bros." Strange thinks Stark is a bit of an idiot.
Suicide Squad #5
Best Reason Not to Flirt at Work
You never know what to expect around Harley Quinn. When Deadshot casually puts his hand on her shoulder, she flips and slams him on the ground. She tells him there shouldn't be any flirting in the workplace, even though that wasn't his intention. Everyone just needs to be aware of their boundaries.
Spider-Man/Deadpool #10
Best Way to Pass Time in Deadpool's "Clubhouse"
Spider-Man and Deadpool recently faced a woman that was created from both their DNA. As they try to figure out what Patient Zero's plan is, Spider-Man plays Overwatch. Unfortunately, he doesn't get to play for too long before some visitors show up.
The Flash #9
Best Homage Cover
There are certain covers that are often reproduced as an homage. The Flash #123 from 1961 is one. That issue featured Barry Allen's first meeting with Jay Garrick. The current issue of The Flash has the former and current Kid Flashes meeting each other. They're both called Wally West, but that's another story we won't get into right now.
Jughead #10
Best Description of the Opposite of a Burger
Jughead found himself somehow on a date with Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Because the restaurant is a little fancy, Jughead is having difficulty trying to find any burger platters. Sabrina mentions wanting the exact opposite of a burger, and Jughead describes the version he created.
Best Reason to Read Ahead in Math Class
Sabrina is upset with Jughead and puts a spell on him that makes him answer every question in class. With the lesson dealing with complex and imaginary numbers, Jughead is able to answer the questions because he read ahead in the textbook. This also shows that comics can be entertaining and educational.
Deathstroke #5
Best Example of Always Being Prepared
As the son of Batman and raised by the League of Assassins, Damian Wayne has learned from the best. Deathstroke kidnapped Damian and chained him in a room filling up with water. Damian bangs his head against the wall and reveals he has some lock-picking tools hidden beneath fake hair, which allows him to escape.
Silver Surfer #7
Best Planet in the Universe
Silver Surfer is trying to show Dawn Greenwood the best the universe has to offer. When it seems he might not be able to top a location they visit, he takes her to a planet with bunny-puppy-kitten beings. What could be better than that?
Future Quest #6
Best Example Why Space Coast Is so Cool
Perhaps we're a little biased, but there's something cool about Space Ghost in his original adventures. In the Hanna-Barbera crossover story, Space Ghost is fighting against some crazy odds and is doing a spectacular job of it.
Deadpool #21
Best Hamlet Scene
Deadpool is in a Shakespeare-inspired story. When his head gets chopped off, how could he not reenact the famous Hamlet scene?
Detective Comics #943
Best Play on Words to Tease Readers
Batwoman is investigating an incident at Wayne Industries with Renee Montoya. When Batwoman asks a questions, Montoya replies, "That's the question, isn't it?" Montoya took on the guise of the Question before the New 52 reboot. This could be a hint of her reclaiming that mantle, or perhaps we're just reading too much into it.
Best Reason Not to High Five a Former Deadly Trained Assassin
Clayface is in human form and training with Cassandra Cain. After a successful session, he high-fives Cassandra, not realizing how intense one from her could be.
Nighthawk #6
Best Fight at a Construction Site
Nighthawk is not someone you'd want to cross. When fighting an opponent at a construction site, things get pretty brutal.
Savage Dragon #217
Best Reason Not to Put Labels on Others
Savage Dragon (Malcolm) and Spawn are working together but not getting along too well. Spawn condemns police officers, saying they all are quick to act based on racial prejudice. Malcolm turns it around on Spawn saying he's just trying to justify his own hate against certain people.
Teen Titans #1
Best Birthday Cake Flavor for Damian Wayne
Damian Wayne can be a handful. Raised by assassins can make you into a bit of a jerk. Since it's his thirteenth birthday, Alfred made him a cake. He jokes he didn't have any blood and sulfur to add to it.
Vision #12
Most Heart-Breaking Moment
Vision created a wife and kids to live in a suburban setting. Each had their own personalities, but as they tried to adjust to a normal life, things ended up getting worse and worse. With murder, deaths, and lies all abound, we see Vision and his wife share a tender moment together.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #7
Best Confrontation Between a Teacher and Pupil
In an almost Star Wars Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader moment, Hal Jordan faces off against Sinestro. This is an epic fight that has been long overdue.
Guardians of the Galaxy #13
Best Reason Not to Upset Gamora
Gamora is known as the "deadliest woman in the galaxy." She discovers Thanos has been held captive on Earth by Carol Danvers and wasn't told when the Guardians agreed to help in the Civil War. She unleashes her anger when Carol tries to stop her from reaching Thanos.
Wonder Woman #9
Best Nod to Past Wonder Woman Costume Controversy
Back in 2012, Wonder Woman got a new costume, and a lot of readers went nuts. The new costume involved pants and many felt it went against "tradition." Later, Wonder Woman returned to a more classic look. While in a clothing store, the Amazon's presence has caused people to gather outside to see the hero. When it's brought up that people might react over her buying anything, Diana makes a comment about people making a fuss over things.
Best Kiss
Steve Trevor was the first man to walk on Paradise Island. He and Wonder Woman have had a complicated relationship. Finally getting a moment to talk about things, the two are able to share a kiss in front of a gorgeous backdrop.
