Every week, we take a look at some of the most bizarre, exciting, and downright unique things to happen in comics. Check out our choices of the strange and wacky things that shouldn't be overlooked from this week's releases.
There may be some tiny spoilers ahead.
Rocket Raccoon and Groot #10
Best Brian Michael Bendis Reference

Brian Michael Bendis is one of Marvel's top writers. Gwenpool is a character from a reality where she was a normal girl who read comics. Now, she's aware she's in a comic book universe, and when she sees Kitty Pryde, she figures Bendis might be writing the story because he likes the character. That means some big and crazy things could be about to happen.
Worst Superpower From an Experiment

Imagine getting abducted and experimented on. Gaining superpowers as a result could be cool. If those powers turn out to be being able to turn into a puddle of water, you might think twice. At least the power did come in handy during this story arc.
Titans #3
Best Watchmen Reference

If you read the recent DC Rebirth Special, you know there's a big Watchmen connection that resulted in the 2011 New 52 universe reboot. Abra Kadabra, one of Wally West's foes, might know a little about the connection. In a fitting manner, some blood from his nose drips on his pocket watch with the same splat pattern from the Watchmen comic.
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #12
Best Action Comics #1

The cover for Superman's first appearance has had numerous homages over the years. When Squirrel Girl visits her mom, we see Brain Drain fighting evil in a way that mimics the iconic cover.
Best Self Reflection

Someone asks Brain Drain if he's a hero. He gives a pretty deep answer.
Detective Comics #941 / Aliens: Defiance #5
Best Ripping Someone in Half Moment (tie)

There's a lot of horrible ways to get killed in comics. Getting torn in half might rank towards the top of the list. In Detective Comics, Gotham Girl tears apart one of the Monster Men causing havoc in the city. In Aliens: Defiance, a xenomorph tears apart a soldier. You can see getting torn apart is pretty messy.
Deadpool Annual #1
Most Unexpected Death in a Saturday Morning Cartoon-style Story

The story here was inspired by the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends animated series from the early 80s. Spider-Man is missing and Deadpool takes his place. When the trio comes across the Sinister Six, Deadpool takes no prisoners.
Suicide Squad #3
Most Impressive Use of Guns

The Suicide Squad have ended up in an extremely dangerous situation. When a group of soldiers are headed their way, Harley Quinn and Deadshot grab a bunch of guns and do what they do best.
Drax #11
Best Euphemism for Destruction

Drax prides himself on one of the things he does best--destruction.
Wonder Woman #7
Best Hug

There's a lot of hugging going on in comics every week. This week, we see Steve Trevor and Wonder Women reunited. Trevor was captured and tortured, but it looks like things are getting better now.
Descender #15
Best Confession of Feelings

Sometimes the best things are right in front of you. The universe has seen some tough times, but there are moments when the light shines through the destruction.
Web Warriors #11
Best Way to Save the Multiverse

The Web Warriors, Spider-Man-type characters from different realities, have been working hard to protect the multiverse. In the end, it comes down to a jam session with the punk rock Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen.
Deathstroke #3
Best Description of a Parenting Technique

Being a parent isn't easy. For some, the easiest way to connect with their kids is bribery. Deathstroke is aware there are other ways to connect.
Tarzan On the Planet of the Apes #1
Strangest Crossover That Actually Works

Combining Tarzan and Planet of the Apes sounds pretty crazy. It turns out, the writers make it work wonderfully. The first issue sets up how this could happen and leaves you wanting more.
Ms. Marvel #11
Best Canadian Ninjas

Who says ninjas can't live in Canada? The Ninja Syndicate prepares to attack in their special way--Toronto Hard Style.
