Best Battles in New Comics: 5/22/15

This week, we're featuring fights from SECRET WARS BATTLEWORLD #1, ARCHIE VS PREDATOR #2, and AVENGERS WORLD #21.

It's that time of the week. Time to look at the latest edition of Best Battles in New Comics. Comics often feature big battles with superheroes fighting supervillains. Sometimes we even have superheroes fighting other superheroes. Get ready to cheer and possibly cringe at the brutal punches being thrown.

No Caption Provided

There were so many good fights this week. It was tough to narrow it down to just three...

SECRET WARS: BATTLEWORLD #1

With Secret Wars underway, the new Battleworld is a mix of different versions of characters in separate regions all ruled by one person/god. What we find here is Doctor Strange has attached his soul to Punisher for a certain reason. Punisher has been crossing borders and has a few familiar yet different character chasing him.

No Caption Provided

The Four have been sent to bring him in. Punisher knows what that means. He's also not one to go without a fight. Add in Doctor Strange, we have a whole new sort of Punisher on our hands.

No Caption Provided

Apparently Frank Castle is a Jon Bon Jovi fan.

When Hulk takes his shot at Punisher, Frank might feel a little bad but still does the only thing he can.

No Caption Provided

It looks like Frank's handling the situation pretty well. There is still Ghost Rider and Wolverine to deal with.

No Caption Provided

You'll want to read the issue yourself to see how this fight goes. The fight might not be exactly as you think it would.

ARCHIE VS. PREDATOR #2

The first issue did deliver some deaths as a Predator now has made its way to Riverdale. While the gang witnesses an extremely brutal killing right in front of them, they try to get to safety. Betty tells Veronica she thinks she knows what's going on and who could help--Sabrina Spellman.

Unfortunately, things go really really badly for Sabrina.

No Caption Provided

That's bad but maybe not completely fatal, right? She's a witch. Maybe she could come up with a spell to help with this wound.

Nope. She won't get that opportunity.

No Caption Provided

Poor Sabrina. Looks like loyal Salem won't just stand around for this. Remember, he used to be a warlock himself. But then, he has been banished to the form of a cat.

No Caption Provided

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are other deaths throughout the issue. We are talking about a Predator.

AVENGERS WORLD #21

I'll be honest, this might not have been one of the absolute biggest battles this week. It is one that's been long overdue and one we've been itching to see. With Namor betraying the Illuminati and working with the Cabal, we see him start to turn the tables on them.

Who would dare stand up to Thanos?

No Caption Provided

Namor's tough. But this is Thanos we're talking about.

No Caption Provided

The fight quickly comes to an end. Namor didn't really have a chance in this situation.

Is this the end for Namor?

No Caption Provided

Why is he smiling? We'd tell you but we're out of time!

No Caption Provided

What are your top three fights from this latest round of new comics? Support what you love and tell the world below. Also, don't forget to make nominations every week in this thread, especially if you feel we missed a great battle. You can even make suggestions via Twitter and use the hashtag #CVBattles.

Thanos is inconsistent.

Not really. Namor is inconsistent. He's lost to thing under water but he also fought sentry evenly. Not to mention the punch broke every bone in Namors hand. Thats never happened when namor hurt thor, sentry, or defeated extremis iron man.

Really marvel needs to decide if they want namor to be a top tier power house or not.

I am not surprise . Namor making him bleed . Now what i am surprise is that namor is weakened not even in the water or has his trident . I dont even know if he even took a bath before making Thanos bleed. Well we can sweep this one under the rug. After all his hand was broken and Thanos had to put some effort in it. He even forgot to pimp hand the fishy boy .

Ooooorrr... They could just apply particular values for strength, speed, durability etc and then there'd be no confusion about who can do what to who. But that would make too much sense.

Thanos Sourcebook. I think this may be a inconsistency because in the ark I am not sure if he was stated to be under warrior madness... Hmm.

I have seen this occurrence cited by lots of fans as "Warrior's Madness", but altho he is a Warrior, and he was quite mad, I don't think it was Warrior's Madness ;-)

For those pointing out Thanos bleeding from Namor, I'm pretty sure that was the artist's oversight and not the writer's intent.

Exactly. I struggle to read Archie comics such as these because they don't fit well with the Archie verse. This is like having Predator crossover with Mickey Mouse. Just... Eh...

It still PIS that it only took Namor-level striking power to make Thanos bleed when he's been tanking Thor level striking power without issue for years. The battle forums are going to go nuts lowballing Thanos with this feat now.

Well Hickman just last year wrote wrote Thanos tanking Thor's full on hammer strikes without a problem and not to mention point blank Black Bolt screams. He and the artist dropped the ball on this fight.

Yup, bolt gave him some minor cuts though (but of course his voice hits harder than fishsticks fist)... I feel like it has to the the artists fault.

@nimamindtricks: The writing suggests it was supposed to be impressive for Thanos (namor breaking his hand) but I gurantee the artist fudged up and drew some blood on the mad titan.

For sure going to be lowballing for Thanos and higballing for namor (only a few fanboys are going to take it seriously and highball though.)

Oh god... to think that Thanos actually bled from the guy that used to beat up Hulk back in the day... how humiliating and lowballing... I mean he already stated how he broke his bones just by punching the guy which is a ridiculous show of durability for Thanos. But nope... the outrage and butthurt culture of comicvine strikes again... how dare this guy whose so f@cking overrated as it is just not no sell everything ever thrown at him.

Can i ask you all what does that blood mean? What does Namor drawing some blood from Thanos while breaking his own bones even mean in the long run? I see the same crap get regurgitated whenever Hulk bleeds, just the sight of some blood means the defeat of that character when in all honesty all of that is less significant to them then if we ourselves pricked our fingers on a needle.

I don't understand what you fear, what do you think people are gonna say to use this feat against Thanos? Namor gave him a nose bleed while fracturing his own bones in the process therefore Superman can KO Thanos since he is stronger and more durable? Because Thanos bled someone is gonna make that idiotic leap in logic?

Just stop it already... these characters are not as perfect in every category as you think they are. Add on top of that, the fact that every writer and artist are entitled to their own vision of things and there is no reason to bitch about anything here. They don't write comics for our little battleforums it's last on their minds actually, anyone ever thought that maybe Thanos completely no selling a full Mljnonir strike from Thor to his neck during Hickmans event is highballing?

Best comment I've seen all month.

I like seeing Thanos beat the crap out of the characters he does, and agree he's in another tier entirely, but goddamn people need to hop off his sack.

Really, people? You gotta bitch about Thanos only knocking them around like a prize-fighter vs a toddler as opposed to King-Kong vs someone on life-support?

Really?

He was getting blood drawn by Gamora kicking him in the face decades ago. It ain't unprecedented, or even unusual when he fights someone.

(By the way, I've actually seen someone explain the last instance as Titans being able to "manipulate their molecules/physiology" so he basically willed himself to bleed when she kicked him. I sh!t you not. Somehow that seems way more plausible than she simply "kicked him in the face really, really, hard and accurately and drew some blood. Again; "I sh!t you not")

I wouldn't take it as proof of anything though. Not that I'm saying that Dr.Strange can't win, but if he could revert Hulk to Banner he would have done so by now.

Also, why is the artwork in that Archie book so terrible?

@theacidskull: I don't think you can look at any one fight in comics as being proof of anything. As a fictional character they are by definition inconsistent. Although as a Stephen fan it was cool to see him without morals.

Its easy to argue against fights shown in battleworld. Apart from that fact that it was never mentioned it was Hulk from the prime marvel reality, we also saw a single member of Black Order killing King Thor the moment they arrive on Battleworld in Secret Wars #2. That's already inconsistent with the power portrayal we normally see for either of the character.

Namor vs Thanos for example was along the same line.

Namor has always been top tier when hydrated, Thor has never gone warrior madness, and certainly not with the power gem, gonna need canon scans if your going to make claims like that.

Thor has went WM a couple times. I don't have scans but i'll give you info and you can find it. Thor was in WM during the original "Onslaught" series. Thor was in WM when he fought Hulk also.

Little Info: For all who appreciate Suprem Soldier, a.k.a. Frank Castle Sorcer Supreme, a.k.a. Punisher + Strange, there is the original story from wich he came:

What if... ? n. 24: What if Wolverine was Lord of Vampire

http://www.comicvine.com/what-if-24-what-if-wolverine-was-lord-of-the-vampi/4000-34113/

[even if maybe he is not "exactly the same" but a very close parallel versione]

And for the idea "Doctor Strange usually can't calm down Hulk", well... THIS Doctor Strange, with the pragmatic and killing mind of Frank Castle, is specializzed in killing down heroes turned bad [usually, Vampires], so maybe he have studied a spell specifically for Hulk...

OR, our regular Doctor Strange is so dumb or so arrogant to think that "simple spell" such as a "calm down" are too simple for him to use or learn...

@xiix: @atheistknowledge: Meh stop being silly. It has nothing to do with it being Thanos (for me). I said the same shit when Wonder Woman made Supes bleed with one kick. The facts remain that Thanos' durability has for the most part consistently very high, even Juggernaut level. Gamora making Thanos bleed could be chalked up as PIS too but she is a 70 tonner martial arts who trained with Thanos for decades. I will say that Namor breaking all the bones in his hand does lessen the severity of it being PIS.
