It's that time of the week. Time to look at the latest edition of Best Battles in New Comics. Comics often feature big battles with superheroes fighting supervillains. Sometimes we even have superheroes fighting other superheroes. Get ready to cheer and possibly cringe at the brutal punches being thrown.
There will be some spoilers below!
BATMAN AND ROBIN ETERNAL #2
(By James Tynion IV, Scott Snyder, Tim Seeley, Paul Pelletier, Tony Kordos, and Rain Beredo)
In the first issue, we saw the current-continuity debut of Cassandra Cain. Her fight against Dick Grayson made the Best Battles list last week and she's back for more. Harper Row's name was on a list and she was attacked in her apartment. Luckily Cassie was able to swoop in to help out.
This dude doesn't look like someone you'd want to mess around with. The cool thing about Cassie is she's able to figure out where exactly an opponent's weaknesses are and use that to her advantage.
While she may be giving this guy a beating, he's no slouch. He can give as well as receive. This also means Cassie is capable of taking a punch as well.
You can see that even taking a hit (or kick) like that doesn't stop her.
And what about Harper? She suffered quite a bit but don't count her out. She may be bleeding all over the place but she's still going to fight rather than sit back and let someone else fight for her.
What happens next? These were just from the opening pages. There's still a lot left in the issue. You don't want to fall behind on a weekly series.
CIVIL WAR #5
(By Charles Soule, Leinil Francis Yu, Gerry Alanguilan, Sunny Gho, and Matt Milla)
The fight has gotten ugly. Captain America and Iron Man have been fighting with the country divided. It turns out someone else has been working behind the scenes to keep the fight going. Cap orders "Hulk" to do the old Fastball Special against Iron Man.
Does Cap have what it takes to be thrown out against an opponent? He does have the Super Soldier Serum and his shield.
This collision brings them to the top of a helicarrier. Steve's had enough and even though Tony tries getting him to listen, Cap keeps going.
It keeps going and going. You almost feel bad seeing these two friends fighting each other so brutally.
What you want to keep in mind is, this is the final issue. This is also just a small part of the issue. There's a lot going on in this issue and several characters get affected. Get ready for the explosions.
I HATE FAIRYLAND #1
(By Skottie Young and Jean-Francois Beaulieu)
Skottie Young has introduced us to Gertrude, a little who was whisked away to Fairyland and ended up stuck there for close to thirty years. She's also been stuck in the body of a child. You can imagine how frustrating that might be. To make things worse, the Moon is constantly narrating everything goin on. Gert decides to deal with the Moon with full force.
That's pretty brutal and a little gross.
One can't and should not go around shooting moons. You would think someone might see this and have something to say. Gert realizes this and when she notices the stars are witnesses, she continues.
Gert continues her rampage. She robs a casino and earns the attention of the Slug Lord. She's apprehended and brought before him. She tries doing a little Princess Leia vs Jabba action.
She's stopped by Slug Lord's men. When she realizes they're mushrooms, well, there's pretty much no stopping Gert.
Is there anyone that can stop Gert? Well, you should see who she has to face next.
Honorable Mention!
As I went through this week's book, sometimes books get overlooked. Captain Hoopla did recommend the fight between A-Force (and Bucky) against the Marvel Zombies. It's pretty cool and you should check it out too.
That's it for this week.
