Battle of the Week: Robin vs. Hit-Girl

Damian Wayne or Mindy McCready?

No Caption Provided

Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin, is our latest Character of the Month and that means we're going to give him a whole lot of love. We'll highlight his best covers, take a look at some of his must read stories, and so much more throughout December, but it also means we're going to test his abilities as a fighter! For his first challenge, we're placing him against the very lethal Mindy McCready, a.k.a. Hit-Girl, from the Kick-Ass series.

Both are young, both are skilled, and both are downright frightening and extremely dangerous for their age. Who's more formidable, though? Who will when then these two face off? Will Mindy's deadly weaponry and lack of remorse lead her to victory or will Robin's training and experience give him the win? Once you're done thinking about the fight, go ahead and wonder about what a team-up between these two would be like. That's sure to be equally awesome. Anyway, check out the rules for this fight, think it through and then cast your vote!

Match Rules

  • Combatants are in character.
  • This is a random encounter (no prep for either side) and both characters have standard gear. For Robin, let's assume that means throwing weapons and a grappling line. For Hit-Girl, let's assume that means an assortment of blades, firearms, and other equipment (e.g. flashbangs, small explosives, etc).
  • They're fighting in a generic downtown city setting. It's unpopulated, at night and all standard city lights remain on. Assume they start roughly 150 feet apart and visible. However, there is a good amount of cover in the location (parked vehicles, bus stops and such) and the entire area is on limits (alleys, rooftops, building interiors, the sewer, etc).
  • Incapacitation, knockout, or death all count as elimination. Making a tactical retreat counts as a loss, too. "What's a tactical retreat?" It's leaving the fight with the intention of not returning to the battle in the immediate future. Going to another spot in the environment to catch your breath for a moment or two or for a tactical advantage is not a tactical retreat.
  • Hey, you know what would be really cool? Treating everyone else in the debate with respect. If you think someone's saying something that just isn't true, go ahead and stick to the facts to point out why. There's no need at all to drop insults just because you disagree with someone. Seriously, this is just talking about a fictional fight, there's no need for immaturity and mudslinging.
  • If you think the poll isn't going how it should, making an informative post about why a character is being underestimated and spreading the word is far more useful than complaining. Just saying.
  • One more thing: you don't need to write an essay to have your post highlighted in Friday's article. Sometimes concise posts can be way more effective than a flood of paragraphs.

Will Hit-Girl's variety of weapons and her kill or be killed mentality give her the edge and she'll take down Batman's son? Seeing as she doesn't know who Robin is but believes he's an enemy, would she be okay with killing him or do you think she'd show a little more restraint? Or has Robin been so well trained that he'll be able to dodge Mindy's weapons and eventually knock her out or incapacitate her? And do you think Robin will hold back once he sees his opponent is so young? Who do you think will take this? Give it some proper thought and, once you've made up your mind, vote in the poll below!

Check the homepage this Friday for an updated article with the following:

  • The results of the poll.
  • Thoughts from the staff.
  • Viner Arguments for both characters.
  • If we're lucky, blurbs from industry talent.
