Each week we gather up the best comic book art that won't be seen in actual comics. The reason they won't is because artists often do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs and websites. Many even pre-arrange commissions through their sites. Last week was New York Comic Con and we're seeing quite a bit coming out of that show.
Sean Murphy was at the show and posted a couple commissions on his Twitter page.
Ryan Stegman was also at NYCC. Check out the sketches he posted on his Tumblr. The first three are five-minute sketches that were colored by Edgar Delgado.
Phil Noto posted some new art on his Tumblr. And in case you missed it, it was announced he would be doing the interiors on a BLACK WIDOW series.
Paolo Rivera posted this cool Batman sketch on his blog.
Chris Burnham was pretty busy at NYCC. Take a look at these sketches he posted on his Twitter. The first Damian was a five-minute sketch.
Tom Raney was also busy at NYCC and posted some commissions on his Twitter as well.
Chris Giarrusso participated in the Mystery Art Challenge at NYCC. (You'll see those images down below). Check out some of the art he posted on his website. I was so tempted to buy that Days of Future Past recreation at the show.
Brian Buccellato never posts the commissions he does at shows. I had to take pics of these with my phone. He also did a really cool Red Hood one that he forgot to snap a pic of.
Peter Nguyen also took the Art Challenge. Here's a couple sketches he posted on his Tumblr.
Adam Kubert did a few commissions at NYCC and posted them on his Tumblr.
Daniel HDR also took the challenge. He had a new sketch book and drew sketches on the back. Here's some he posted on his Tumblr.
Khary Randolph was at the show but he was yet another artist I didn't get a chance to talk to. Take a look at this Superman sketch he posted on his Deviant Art Page.
Joel Gomez posted this cover sketch on his Tumblr.
Skottie Young posted some new art on his site. Check out the rough pencils of Lobo he posted. It's always cool seeing the different stages of a sketch.
Peter Krause posted a few sketches on his Twitter this week.
Gene Gonzales started doing his Conventionless Sketches on his blog again.
Marcio Takara posted a couple more NYCC sketches on his Tumblr.
Mahmud Asrar posted this sketch of Supergirl and Power Girl on his Tumblr.
Todd Nauck is always drawing non-stop at shows. Here's just some of the new art he posted on his Tumblr.
You might have seen the Mystery Art Challenge video earlier this week. It was Jean Grey and a Toaster. In case you don't know the story, the challenge always consists of a known character and a random object. In most cases, like this one, I come up with the random object right before the first person starts drawing. I knew it would be Jean and as I was walking towards Artist Alley, a toaster just popped into mind. The coolest thing is seeing the different artists draw different versions of her.
Here's the video again, in case you missed it.
Here's scans of their art.
That's it for this week. Be on the look out for another installment.
