DC has shared a look at the cover to Adventure Comics #5. While at first, you might be rejoicing in the apparent death of this character. But since we're in the midst of Blackest Night, you know death is really not a good thing these days. Superboy (or Superman) Prime was a big enough problem when he was alive. If he dies and is converted, watch out.
I keep thinking about all the Black Lanterns and how they will be stopped. We've been suspecting that we may be seeing some White Lanterns eventually to come and save the day. We are going to need a really good ending to this story. I'm sure we can all agree that the Black Lanterns will have to be stopped at the end of this story. I don't see them remaining "active" after Blackest Night and being able to continue running around killing people to create more Lanterns. Since this has been such an epic story so far, we're going to want a really sweet ending.
What are your thoughts on how the Black Lanterns will be defeated? How do you see this story ending? Will the other colored Lanterns band together? Will we see White Lanterns swoop in to save everyone? What emotion will the 'white' stand for? What will happen to all the characters that have been killed or resurrected and turned into Black Lanterns? Will they return to death or given another chance at life? Could this mean the return of several deceased characters?
This reminds me of that thread that was made about the cliche comic covers. There is some irony here of the dead holding the dying.
Yeah, the White Lantern idea I had mentioned and G-Man said was cut out of an earlier discussion. It all makes me think of the Green Lanterns mantra.

I would say that a real "White Lantern" or White Lantern Ring doesn't exist, but when you combine all the colors, like when Hal had green, blue, and red on all at the same time, you'd add up to white. And if Black is Death, then White must be Life, right? We woulnd't be fully alive if we didn't have emotions; we'd be lifeless husks. And perhaps Hal becoming the White Lantern for a bit converts all the Black Lanterns back to life? Or as White Lanterns themselves? I'm not saying that'll happen or if I even want that, but that could be a possibility.

since there are people already living people that defeats the purpose but yeah thats a good point but like you said there may not be white lanterns
another thing to be concerned about is when this blackest night stuff is said and done will "the war of light" already have ended?

I doubt he's dead, he's fought dozens of Green Lanterns and almost the entire DCU without trouble. I doubt the people he's killed will be much trouble.
A white lantern would have to be someone who is dead(Don hall) or alive and white in the color spectrum represent Peace. For those who have been killed or resurrected to black lantern, only a few will be brought back to life for a special occasion.
I think The Green and Yellow Lanterns will be the only one's left and will band together to fight the Black Lanterns. In the end a White Lantern will rise up and turn the BL's back to nomal.
i think that the white lanterns powers are the exact opposet of the black lantern.I think they can reanimate there skin and soul,instead of roting corps there skin has life and wounds are healed with just a touch of a finger,thats my idea of the white lantern corps
If there is a white lantern i believe that they would stand for life since the black lanterns stand for death. I don't think that they will just come in and save the day but maybe give the good a fighting chance. And for all the people that have been killed and turned if the white lantern does exist i think it will give each person a choice to either stay dead or return to life.

I think the White Lantern Corp of Life will convert all the Black Lanterns into White Lanterns and bring them back from the dead..... Wait, that wouldn't work, there'd be no more dead people...... Oh well, just a thought.....

But death means (most likely) becoming a Black Lantern. So he'll still be around being a bigger douche than before.
it is Alexander Luthor....in some of the interviews done before Adventure Comics came out they talked about how Superboy would be fighting a Black Lantern Alex Luthor

wasn't prime sent back to his home dimension? maybe he is strong enough to take out the black lanterns and redeem himself. who else could save the day? captain carrot? I think not, though it would be great to see a zombie captain carrot black lantern. heh.
Issue number 5? What's that...December? Ouch, waaay too long to wait for this lol. I'm not sure how I feel about this, I don't really want a dead Prime...unless BL Kal-L savagely beats him to death, that could be really cool. I'm actually more interested in seeing Alexander Luthor as a BL and what he will do.
Well, we already know from one of the very first issues of Blackest Night that the Black Lantern ring was not able to recruit Dove. I wonder if this will repeat with other characters to stem the tide of Blackest Night.
I mentioned the White Lantern idea a few threads ago...what I suspect is that since Hal has been "recruited" by ALL of the other colors/lanterns that he'll be used as a focus for a White Lantern (not something lame like a Power Rangers or a Rainbow Lantern) similar to a prism since in light the combination of all colors (e.g. they are all cooperating together) makes white light. I suspect the black power battery (powered by the "dead" Anti-Monitor) would need to be destroyed to actually stop the Black Lanterns and for Nekron to be destroyed or banished (sealed away in his dimension) to finish him off/end the threat of the Black Lanterns.
I agree that they need to go away in some epic fashion rather than be running around loose (though you could still have a conduit to Nekron - since I doubt he can really be destroyed - through Black Hand) or possibly Superboy/man Prime being an avatar of Nekron (hence how he becomes the Time Trapper - which would actually be a really good way for the Trapper and his motives to come about). Personally I am quite sick of Prime - he's really very annoying so his death would not be something I would mourn...thinking it through though...Lex ultimately being the Trapper/avatar (if that's Lex in the picture) makes even more sense (given the Trapper's time travelling/multi-dimensional focus).
As for the "returning to life"...I think Geoff is heading towards "resurrecting" DC's "heyday" of about the mid-80's (Titans were selling as well as the X-Men and DC was on the very top of their game) while still maintaining the "main" (unified) DC timeline. So I suspect that Aquaman, and J'onn and several of the others will be resurrected by the end of the storyline by the power of the White Lantern(s) using/channeling their strength of character to defeat Nekron (and their inner core of being heroes who fought for "life" would be how they focus their power/will/whatever through Hal as well to both defeat Nekron and come back to life).
Since this idea requires a LOT of cooperation between all the other lanterns to work...don't count on White Lanterns being around afterword because the various colors won't all cooperate like this again…and I suspect it will be the “brightest day” after the “darkest night” of the black lanterns (particularly for those that “survive” – I’d certainly think making it through the darkest night of the black lanterns would make me think “I’m alive…this is the brightest day ever!”
Knightwraithe just laid out almost the EXACt idea I had in my head. Hal Jordan will likely be the White Lantern and powered by the whole spectrum in harmony together. And yeah, the Black Lanterns will likely all be ressurected (or the main heroes and villains at least)
I'll be most interested to how the universe exists with the seven Lantern corps in the universe afterwards, well providing that all seven corps urvive of course.

i had a very similar conversation about this the other day, but I don't think Hal will be the only character to become a White Lantern. If you read Blackest Night Superman, Kal-L sees Kal-El as the full spectrum of emotions. In BL Titans, Hank Hall sees the new Hawk as pure rage, but sees Dove as a white, unidentifiable emotion. So yes, Hal Jordan will become a White Lantern, but I also think Dove (both Dawn Granger and possibly Don Hall), Superman, and possibly even Sinestro will become White Lanterns, Bacause when you combine the 7 emotions of the spectrum, you get [as a friend of mine that doesn't read comics said] the human spirit, that idea that no matter the odds, you have to get up and continue fighting and not fear the prospect of death. I think they all (EVEN Sinestro) share that.... That idea of fighting for what they believe in and not compromising it for everything. ((my thoughts were kind of all OVER the place there, but I think you get my point! LOL))
Couldn't Hal some how absorb any body else's feelings around him at the climax of the battle, by stealing Black Hand's artifact and then, BADA-BUM, he carries all on himself the emotions of the spectrum, becoming a bruning white entity fighting for life?
That's just an idea, but I think that would be how I'd manage a story like this.
@FoxxFireArt: White is supposedly peace. What I'm wondering is how characters like Brainiac will be identified as I don't believe he has emotions. Maybe that is where R.E.B.E.L.S or Adventure comes in.
i think the compassion lanterns or whichever ones can use other lanterns powers will become the white lantern possibly every type of lantern shoot a single compassion lantern while he focuses all of it or one person is possessed by all the light entities at once maybe
