They’re not afraid to get blood on their hands. And if you see them coming, you should run the other way. But with a team full of villains, killers and all-around baddies – can they stop from killing each other long enough to take out their enemies? Find out this January in the bombastic debut of UNCANNY X-MEN #1!

Wait......why are Sabertooth's claws covered up by his suit? Wouldn't it tear, or even get dulled by the unbreakableness that covers his weapon?

Why oh why can't this cover artist just do the interior art too?! Psylocke is my favorite ever....but I won't pick up a book illustrated by Greg Land...I just can't support it. Pleeeeease, Marvel, any other artist! See?! Look how amazing this cover is!

@indomitableregal: No problem! She features heavily in Peter David's X-Factor run, which (if you have the chance) you should definitely give a read.

Kind of ironic actually 'cause each of them has been a member of the X-Men at one point or another I just don't think they've all been members at the same time

I'd have preferred Dr Nemesis over Fantomex as he does my head in. Don't know a lot about M so I'm not excited about her but I like the rest of the team.

I love these characters (most of 'em) but Marvel, get rid of Greg Land already. He makes you look bad. Seriously, they've gotten so many amazing artists with their own distinct styles and technical/abstract brilliance- there's no more room for tracers.

Why I'd Sabretooth evil again... does this mean that thanks to Secret Wars wiping continuity away that Axis never happened? It would make sense with Tony back to normal.

I was gonna post that very thing! That art is BOSS! I love Fanto, Sabretooth, and Mystique so this title is a must-buy for me (in spite of Land). Like you, I wish this was what the interiors were gonna look like...

@kid_jakeriv: Sabretooth is still inverted. It's been confirmed by the writer, and that's why Sabretooth doesn't kill the guy in the hummer.

He isn't. Bunn makes mention of the fact that he's still affected by the inversion. It's probably why he didn't kill the guy in the preview.

@dredd_78: Okay, okay, I see your point, he is kinda janky at times, but I enjoy his art anyway. And if you say something about reusing faces, I like JRJ too, even though he only knows two male faces, black and white.

@vojtavem:

I couldn't recall where he used that cover art originally, but I do remember it was recycled from something he did before.

I used to really like JRJ a lot. I really haven't looked at enough at his recent work on Superman to decide whether I like his version.

@dredd_78: Sure, that´s not the best thing to do, but I like him anyway.
Can we at least agree that Liefeld is worse?

I mean, if you google his name, the list of his worst drawings comes up. You should read it even if you disagree, it´s hilarious.

Here's my issues with Greg Lands art. Every female character always looks the exact same, just with different haircuts. He always has people standing in awkward poses or smiling all the time, usually in fight scenes. He tends to skip doing background work around the characters. He traces/or uses the same facial expressions over and over again. He doesn't dare to do anything new or push himself. If Marvel wants to keep employing him they should use him just for cover art. I think he would do well in that area. I think if Land just tried harder he could have been close to John Cassidy's level. For those not buying the book because of Land, it's your money and you're free to spend it however you want, but Land doesn't usually stick around long on books.

I agree the cover by Ken Lashley would make for good interior art.

The team line-up seems interesting. I will be buying this, but it looks more like either an X-Force comic, or even a Brotherhood of Mutants comic. Not Uncanny X-Men.

@holyserpent: because his art is atrocious. It makes no sense. All women are porny looking, traces constantly, looks awkward, reuses the sane 5 faces, and is almost impossible to follow in action scenes.

I am surprised he still has work when compared to Yu, Ross, Imoen, Pichelli, Marquez, and many many more artists that work hard to bring life to comics.

I like Greg Land's work, but think he should stick to being a cover artist like Adam Hughes..he's basically a cheesecake artist...his work is visually appealing, but i would not go crazy for it like a Jim Lee, Mark Silvestri, Clay Mann, Kevin Maguire or Salvador Larocca...Greg Land's art is easy to do because of the photo references involved with it...I think comic art is an excellent craft and it I were drawing a book I would pour my style into the book the best way I can...NO PHOTOS...

As much as I hate Land's work, I can get past it if the writing is worth it. I've certainly done it before. I'm assuming he must be very good at keeping deadlines. That will keep an otherwise unimpressive artist working consistently.

I'm not sure about this one. On the one hand there's Fantomex and Psylocke, on the other I can't see how they'd even associate with Mystique and Sabretooth after Final Execution. I know it's been several years since that story line, but that's the last time I really was interested in an X-Book. Also is Sabretooth still inverted anyone?

He's my problem with Greg Land. He plagiarizes. Traces other artists works, I mean, some people accuse Land of tracing, sure, but quite a few artists do, or seem to, David Mack, Salvador Larroca, Deodato so on, I don't really mind artists who trace, some of them I like, if they use stock images, take their own photos, trace their own art, but we can see and identify where and how Greg Land traces from other professional artists, just not in a way that would get Marvel into legal issues, hence… they are okay with it and its a blurry subject, I mean, lots of artists reference each other, and themselves. Not many people make a bigger deal out of it either… so is it okay? He seems to work fast, which is another plus.

Stylistically? Eh, thats more nuanced, though I am still generally not a fan, tracing from photos isn't a good way to get the illusion of momentum/movement in comics unless you have really good reference material, and because we don't have a lot of photo material of actual super model level pretty super athletic woman flying around with strong confident smiles, Land will have to use other references and then mix, match, cut and paste. Look at the panel with Psylockes legs and the perspective there its… artists who draw more stylistically, even if they use references, they have to use their imaginations and knowledge of proportions and anatomy to use perspective well, in conjunction with how lighting affects that, to give an illusion of speed, movement, momentum and then force and impact. Which helps give characters weight and presence. Makes a panel dynamic despite being a 2D illustration.

What Lands style is generally good for… is comics where… well basically Phoenix Endsong, where you have less action, and a lot of beautiful, sexy, pretty, pouty characters, standing around looking pretty, pouty, distressed, happy, and so on, which there is a lot of photo material of, fashion magazines, guys magazines, art magazines, uh erotic magazines, and because Endsong was basically the characters waxing poetic about life, death, resurrection, friendship, loss, heartbreak, personal connections, jealousy, friendship, and mostly verbal disagreements and talking heads, it played to all of Greg Lands strengths as an artist. He draws big fiery birds really well because you guess it, slap on some flame filters to illustrations of things that have wings and feathers makes those things look really cool and badass.

So I am not here to "hate" on Greg Land, or people who like his art. I loved his art in Endsong. Some of my favorite artists have similar problems with their art, and I like it for other reasons, they might use color better or something. Also, many many artists who I can tell are objectively amazing with their art, their depiction of momentum, their skills to do with anatomy, proportions, or consistency, that I find boring as well. Recognizing skill doesn't necessary make you like an image. Alternatively this book… uh, I do not like the preview. Mostly because of the art. Some cool panels mind you, the punch through windshield, has great momentum and lighting, the last panel go Psylocke, but everything else… makes me to not want to get the book. I am just one person though, I doubt the larger majority shares my position. Still, that why such threads exist right, so we can express our position on such matters. I do miss Simone Bianchi, Clay Mann, the Mike Choi/Sonia Oback combo drawing X-Men books.
