6 Developments from 'The Flash' Episode 202

Find out what big things happened this week.

With the new season of The Flash kicking off, there have been a lot of developments with the characters and the world The Flash operates in. This week's episode "Flash of Two Worlds" had a lot of reveals, and we picked out 6 of the most important ones for you to check out.

Warning: This contains spoilers for this week's episode.

No Caption Provided

6. Jay Garrick is Super-Knowledgable

No Caption Provided

A lot of this episode revolves around Jay Garrick on Barry's Earth. We all knew this was coming, but there's a lot revealed about his Earth and Zoom. This isn't the WWII Jay and it's not necessarily the New 52 Jay. It seems like a little bit of a mix.

Throughout the episode, he drops info relevant to the plot as well as training Barry, which we'll get to a bit later. Jay explains that Zoom wants to kill Barry because Zoom wants to be the only speedster. In addition, this episode solidifies the idea of doppelgangers from other Earths. Sure, we saw it with Atom Smasher in the first episode, but Jay reiterates the point here. While Jay hasn't been The Flash much longer than Barry, he comes in handy as a mentor.

5. Patty Spivot: Future Love Interest

No Caption Provided

Another new character to this episode was Patty Spivot, who works for Central City PD. In the comic, Spivot was Barry Allen's girlfriend who was a blood analyst at the police department. She ended up moving to Nevada after she thought Barry died.

On the show, Pivot is determined to be a part of the anti-metahuman task force, but Joe doesn't want her on the non-defunct team. Pivot is smart, smarter than many of her colleagues, and she already has a thing for Barry. She's in awe of his work for the department and read everything he's done. Eventually, Pivot proves to Joe that she's the right person for the job, after telling Joe that her father was killed by two criminals who eventually became metahumans.

4. Barry's New Powers

No Caption Provided

Let's not forget that Barry is still pretty new to being the Flash and understanding his powers. Sure, he's been around for a whole season, but the Speed Force is a crazy thing that gives Barry more than the ability to run fast.

Jay teaches Barry the ability to "hurl the lightning." What exactly is that? Well, when Barry is running, there's all that Speed Force lightning behind him, so Barry grabs it and tosses it at whatever he pleases. This time, he throws it at Sand Demon, turning him to glass and he shatters. Wait... Did Sand Demon just die? Why is everyone cool with that? Anyways, two episodes in and we already have a new power. We'll most likely see more.

3. Cisco's New Powers

No Caption Provided

Barry can't be the only person dealing with new powers, right? Last season, Harrison Wells revealed to Cisco that he has powers and the entire Flash viewing audience wanted to know more. We already know that Cisco still has memories from the undone timeline where Wells killed him. What more can Cisco do now?

Well, this episode gives new insight into Cisco's new powers. When he touches items from Earth-2, he gets glimpses of the past. The first time it happens, Cisco touches some of Sand Demon's cells, he sees the fight between Barry and SD the night prior. The second time he does it, much later in the episode, he sees where SD is holding Patty Spivot. This is his first time using the power, so it's pretty obvious that's not all he can do.

2. Iris' Mother

No Caption Provided

Iris' mother returns? This was a bit of a shocker, even though we knew it was coming. During the last moments of the episode, The elevator doors open and there she is, right in front of Joe. We don't get much, but this could lead to something bigger.

Is this how Wally will be introduced? Could he actually be Iris' brother? Could this be a doppelganger from Earth-Two? We don't know anything for sure yet, but Iris' mother returning opens up a whole lot of doors for the season.

1. Harrison Wells is Back!

No Caption Provided

At the very end of this week's episode, we're treated to a shot from another world where STAR Labs is a thriving place with tours and fancy outfits not of this world. Guess what happens next? An elevator door opens, revealing another character: Harrison Wells.

That's right, on one of these Earths, Harrison Wells is in charge of STAR Labs. Could this be Earth-Two? Is it actually Harrison Wells? Every fiber of my beings wants this to be him, but I keep thinking there's a bigger connection to Zoom.

There you have it. That's the 6 big moments that happened this week on the show. What scenes did you love?

I was incredibly glad they brought in Spivot, honestly watching an entire season of love-sick Barry pining for Iris basically to be turned down at every turn was getting annoying.

Jay is cool and I am glad they had the scene referencing the original Flash of Two Worlds comic

I think a big thing was how they introduced Wells as the savior of Central City

Okay I'm gonna say it now............ DC needs to totally reboot Earth 2(Come on ONE Earth that isn't the mainstream one isn't gonna kill them), and replace it with something closer to THIS Earth 2. It seems that it really IS different and has almost of a Dieselpunk look to it, 40's/50's architecture and from the looks of it fashion as well mixed with clearly modern technology.

In other words? It is FAR closer to what a rebooted JSA world should be. Modern tech sure, but has that very 40's vibe to it. Like yeah this is an old school place... But it's not ancient.

@the_impersonator: Yeah, it even look like they had an advertisement in the middle of Flash. "Look everyone Green Arrow is a thing".

I'm hopping Jay doesn't stay depowered but other than that it was a pretty good episode, and the first thing I thought when Iris' mother popped up was that Wally is gonna be a long lost brother instead of a nephew.

I hope Barry learns how to speed steal, but the more powers he gets the more I can't accept the current state of how these fights break down. They need to improve some of these villians or Barry should be fodderizing a lot of these guys.

Love lots of things, Wells return, Barry finally trusting Jay and learning a new ability with the SF, Joe's wife randomly showing up, Caitlin having the hots for Jay, Professor/Firestorm randomly fainting, the 52 reference, the classic brick scene with Barry/Jay was epic, explanation of Jay losing his helmet which we saw season 1 finale, Jay we learn lost (at least for now) the speed force for whatever reason, Patti showing up and far more badass then the comic version I might add. So much going on, lol oh and btw

Flash>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Arrow>>>>>>>>>>every other comic show.

Recreating the Flash of Two Worlds cover in the actual episode was brilliant. This episode was great. Cisco made me smile so much and yet truly felt for him, the Wells development made me smile, and scratch head all at once. And let's not get started on Joe's Ex.

I did. The Arrow premiere had some flaws. Oliver's voice was high-pitch, when he changed into "Oliver 2.0" since the last five months after leaving Starling City. That really annoyed me. Not only that, Thea sounded hyper as if she were still taking drugs (Must be the Lazarus Pit side-affect). Diggle's costume looked horrible and he made me laugh during the fight scenes. Not to mention, the fights looked fake. Either it's because of Laurel's sloppy fights or that the team fighting the bad guys didn't even take a direct hit.

Well sure but the first Flash episode had a lot of worse flaws imo it was a really bad episode. Horrible pacing, bad acting from most of the cast, Barry acting like an idiot in his fight with Atom Smasher and a completely illogical ending are my major issues. and while the second episode was a huge improvement it still had as many minor flaws as you just listed for arrow. Grant Gustin in particular doesn't act brooding nearly as well as he does normal Barry.

I wouldn't say the Flash premiere was the worst. It started out as a solid episode and much better than the Arrow premiere. The Atom Smasher may have been underdeveloped and his actions weren't clearly explained until his death. Barry wasn't an idiot because he felt that he wanted to fight the Atom Smasher alone and thought he could handle it.

I don't think there was any bad acting in this case. The actors had been doing a good job since season 1, so no complaints there. People were surprised the fact that Barry actually killed the Atom Smasher, even the Sand Demon died in the second episode. How else they can be stopped? Anyways, my only issue with the premiere is that Eobard Thawne/Harrison Wells would give away the confession to Barry on the tape. That just came out of nowhere. It's like Eobard had given up his plan or thinks that his plan might backfire. I could deal with that for now.

What do you mean by illogical ending? Do you mean Barry's Dad leaving after the reunion? If it is, I would say his Dad didn't want to interfere Barry's life. It's time to move on.

As you said, the second episode of Flash was better than the first. But the second episode was rushed. Too many good things happened on that episode. That can be a bad thing. The writers need to slow it down.

I didn't mind Barry killing, just should be accompanied with a story arc about Barry coming to terms with the need for it. Only weird for me cause of the sharp break with how he use to operate with nothing but a throw away line.

I think the way he attacked him though was idiotic, often I find Barry goes in with no plan, where were the speed punches, or the running start punch he used on other tough customers etc. Barry shouldn't be this green after a year.

And Barry's dad leaving is bizarre with the reason they gave. Clearly they just didn't want to deal with the plot anymore and didn't want to increase his role on the show so they just wrote him out. No one would leave their son the next day after getting out of a life sentence. And his reasoning sucked, Barry already cares about tons of other people and it doesn't affect him. The emotional let down of being abandoned by his father is much more likely to have negative consequences. They could have had him struggle to live there for a couple months then leave, this way makes no sense.

Also it makes no sense how Firestorm can resolve a time paradox by exploding!!! Another example of them writing out a plot they are bored of rather than resolving it.

I also agree with you on the acting. Just was weak episodes for all of them imo, not an ongoing issue.

I think we just have very different views of it. Honestly I felt like it was the worst episode of the series easily, maybe of the entire CWverse. Agree to disagree?

That alternate earth felt a lot like earth-2. At least it seems to have a sepia hue. You know, like a retro futuristic pic.

Could be Zoom the Barry Allen of earth-3?

The (Green) Arrow tv bulletin. Nice touch to continuity.

Sand Demon was a Firestorm villian? I had feared than he would be Sandy Hawkings with the same treatment than Atom Smasher. And that would be sad. Who else wants to see more of heroic earth-2 characters?
